The Kelvin is a bit of an anomaly in the movie it was built prior to when Nero messed up the timeline so it should conform to the design conventions of the original canon! everything after that including the new design of the constitution class can be explained by the changes in the timeline
heheh :D well this same ship is avalible as a mod on Star Trek Bridge Commander lol :D and yea this kelvin looks more detailed compared to the JJ Abrams version of the 09 enteprise k sure the rest of the JJprise looks more detailed but still could use more improvement unlike the kelvin.
I must say I think the Kelvin looks a thousand times better than the new Enterprise. The Kelvin's engineering hull and impulse engine are very TMP ish which I think is great.
I agree as well, overall. My beef with the 'new' Enterprise is the nacelle/nacelle struts: when you look at them head-on, they seem.... bent....too close together....? The nacelles themselves seem too large as well.
The Kelvin though, N-I-C-E. I'm waiting for the models/toys of it to come out.
It's based off the Apollo class which ironically looked a lot dorkier. It's just a TOS saucer with one nacelle sticking out from the bottom. The Kelvin version looks way better.
I'm not sure anymore. Orci and Kurtzman seemed to imply in interviews that the "800 lives" Chris Pike told Kirk his father saved was the ship's crew complement. If that's true, then considering that it seems the Kelvin's the same in the prime and movie universes and the prime 2245Enterprise had a crew of 203, she may be more of a, in SFB lingo, light cruiser/CL or "new heavy cruiser"/NCA. 800 crew seems too big for a destroyer... but we'll just have to wait for someone to publish blueprints.
The kelvin can hold that many people, they were probably on a extended mission. The Enterprise in 2245-2255 in the prime timeline did not go very long without going back to port.
What excellent work, more of this kind of thing on youtube please, and less battle stuff taken from Star Trek games :-P
Thank you for your hard work, though talking about the design of the ship from the movie, why do I get the impression the Kelvin is a great looking ship...FLYING UPSIDE DOWN?
I think it'd look better the other way up, but that's just my opinion!

Not exactly, it's based of the Saladin class, not the Apollo class, since the Apollo class is not even canon.
