Well, the animation is nice, the question is, how accurate it is, what is under the sea floor, are there any fissures, which are not on the picture ? Finally, how the closure will effect further spills at and around the area? We hope for reduced or no-spill operation in the future. Even it is the diversion of the oil up to container vessels. Just keep oil out of water please! We have to trust the experts and the ones with more detailed knowledge of the situation. Good luck!
They're still trying to plug it? The Iranians did a great job plugging the offshore oil wells that American terrorists blew up while the US was attacking Iran both directly and indrectly during the Iran-Iraq war of 1980-1988. And the Iranians were in the middle of a devastating defensive war facing every weapon of mass destruction available at that time. Are the British/Americans that stupid?
Either way, what goes around comes around! It's only a shame that the animals have to pay for it.
I have the solution to the Oil Spill. I need you to help forward my videos into the hands of every one of your friends and/or someone at the White House or BP. My solution will work, NO DOUBT! They need to crush the casing I have a desing that will do this i stage so not to cut the casing. once closed up the can pump kill mud then cement th well. if they cut the top off we lose all hope at stopping this blowout for a very long time. they need my design CRUSH THE CASING DON"T CUT IT .
This spill was caused by corporate greed and monumental stupidity. You cocksuckers wanted to 'save money' by cutting corners. Well, I hope BP goes broke paying all the claims against it. How much of your precious corporate money did you save now, huh assholes? How cost effective was it to be such pennywise and pound-foolish idiots? You blatantly disregarded safety procedures and now the world pays? FUCK YOU!
Dont' the "TOP KILL" but " TOP WILL" because YES WE CAN SAVE MEXICO WHITH OUR BELL ! Dear Sirs, our company owns a patent concerning a disposal to stop oil spill. You can see uor Idea on Youtube at " Antogatv " Our suggestion is a bell truncated cone made of reinforced concrete, whith a hole designed to route the petroleum spill in a pipeline. The bell includes a series of concentric rings whose decreasing diameter is partially piled up and so on with a decreasing diameter
when we suck (or they rather) suck all this oil out of the earth-- it's going to throw it of natural balance and we are going to see some W-I-L-D returns from it. Wait and see...too bad for us huh?
This wasn't method was use last because if BP uses Top Kill it would write off this whole oil rig as a lost. Fuck BP. Months into in and now they decide to fucking cap this oil rig. Pigs, Greed, Money, BP you fucked over the Sea Life permanently.
This wasnt tried because they wanted money if they us TOP KILL, then they will right off this oil rig. Losing all their money. I KNEW this chit from the beginning. WHY the hell did it take them so long? They want fucking money, FUCK BP
why is BP mot being punished yet? Why are all these republicans in BP's pocket protecting BP and blaming everyone else? This is bush's legacy on america. He freed up all these waters to the oil companies and made the weak regulations. Even out of power the republican hacks are hurting america. Haven't you done enough , republicans alteady almost ran america into the ground
This should have been plugged weeks ago. BP spent too much time trying to save the well so they could still make money from the oil gushing out. Why do you think they downplayed this leak as minor for the first couple weeks? These people at BP need to be locked up as the criminals they are. They don't give a shit about the environment and only care about profit.
@mischiefpwns BP are not trying to save the well because concrete plugging is a common step in the production process. You might want to read a few books on oil drilling and the cementing process before embarrassing yourself in the future.
I suggest this book to start, Nontechnical Guide to Petroleum Geology, Exploration, Drilling and Production
@aRAUSEr7 Unfortunately, no more oil = the world basically shuts down. No planes, no cars, etc. I think it's pretty horrible, but that's how the world works.
America has 2% of the people and uses 25% of the oil. Haliburton and the oil rig company are both American companies BP hired because they are so politically connected in crooked America they knew no one could sue them and win. They have Congress in their pocket like a boy carries around a toy to play with.
Whata bunch of 'pussy' risk averse fanatic leaders. Even with the largest oil spill in U.S. history staring them in the face they still elect to do NOTHING.
It can't be surprising that if humans went extinct just about everything else on this planet would flourish. How many more financial/environmental disasters is oil going to cause before we get our shit together and put R&D into renewable energy? If we were any animals but humans we would probably be extinct already with our inability to adapt. We are always reacting and trying to fix problems. Why the hell can't we look 100 years into the future and actually prevent them for once?
On paper this looks good but the problem is the sealing of the pipes at the depth, my thought would be a reinforced concrete structure heavy enough to bed, and cover ( all the leaks) and a pre constructed pipe to drain this oil well to ships. but weight is displaced you may say? But suction inside structure!!!! just do it.
Has anyone heard of the russians suggestion to just mini-nuke it shut?
(just search ''Russians suggest: nuke it'' in google) seems like it may be an option if/when other more subtle ideas fail...or if we dont have time to implement the other ideas...
@jkcogburn again- for the record you're damn right I do, but not by choice I can not ride my bike the 32 miles I must drive to and from work, totally 64 miles a day- I do use gas, But I use shell. BP can burn in hell for their corner cutting to save a buck. 11 people dead- eco-system ruined- seizebp dot ORG
jkcogburn, this was no accident. Let me explain. You see BP knew they were cutting corners. They cut these corners to keep profits up, as any corporation would do. They also knew that by doing so, there was a risk, however small, that something could go wrong. But they went ahead and cut corners to save a buck. Never place a bet, no matter how small the risk is, if you can't pay up in the end. 11 people died and our gulf eco-system is ruined, for now. All to save a buck.
So if a real person kills 11 people, injures 17, do to criminal negligence, it's murder, but if it is done in the pursuit of profit by a "corporation", it's an "accident"?
Look at what is happening on the coast: it's being invaded by toxins. If some guy named Mohamed was doing this, we'd be at war with another country. But because the guys who did are profiteers, nobody goes to jail.
Pollution is a tax the rich are capable of levying on the poor without the government's help. Stop the madness.
There is another rig deeper than horizon..Called the Independence Hub.which is the deepest in the world & is in the gulf of mexico too....Before they drill these wells doesn't anybody consider the trouble accessing this equipment on the bottom of the ocean ,in an emergency & at that depth...Duhh
@ArkansasGillum That’s the beauty of hindsight, it’s always 20/20. Accidents happen and answers are not always easy. One major blowout caused by an unprecedented surface event out of some 30,000 offshore wells. Pretty good odds, better odds than the airline industry and I don’t hear anybody suggesting we stop flying.
@ArkansasGillum Go F urself. A very elequent answer. I do stand corrected sir. So you are from Arkansas, a long ways up the hollar I suppose. You know what they say about webbed toes, good divers for offshore work. Cheers.
Yes, they were negligent. An "accident" that happens as a result of negligence is a crime. Also, even if this had been an avoidable accident, they have been grossly negligent SINCE the explosion, in their failure to act to stop this oil from reaching our shores, in using a chemical dispersant that has been illegal in their OWN country for 10 years, and in countless other ways.
And, I suppose all of you with the negative comments about BP drive electric cars and never use petroleum products....hmmmm....I didn't think so. It was an ACCIDENT. I'm sure they would love to hear your ideas about how to fix this fiasco.
@jkcogburn Exactly! thank you! it is so easy for people to be self righteous about this but if you want to know the reason BP is drilling for oil in the gulf, look in the mirror. That said, if they were negligent in their safety practices etc. they deserve every bit of shit that gets flung.
@jkcogburn, sure is funny they are using ELECTRIC SUBS to try to fix this gusher.
Maybe the Tampax Corp can come up with a super dooper massive sized plug for the hole with a big string so LOST's LOCKE can pull the plug after 28 days and hell can return. But boy that insertion device, a Mile long? don't flush that down the toilet!
How about they just build a new World Trade Center over leak then let the Mossad agents and CIA pancake it like they did on 911? It would be like Planet of the Apes!
I hope the arrogant BP officials responsible for this negligance burn in hell. You deserve way worse than the fate you have bestowed upon the turtles, birds, frogs and fish....not to mention the honest hard working people that live in the affected areas. I wish you the very worst. I cannot express my sadness or contempt in words. "Beyond Petroleum"----yeah you nailed it.
@NOLApaul77 Lets start by stringing the people screaming about gas prices and all that.
We are ALL responsible for this mess, don't kid for a second that its only the fault of BP. At least they are trying to contain the horror and fix it, already spending close to a billion dollars.
How much did you donate to help contain/fix the issue? Hmnn???
@bgrayatbs Also,I was hoping that since they have this site and you can leave comments I was hoping they would answer the questions/comments????but guess not.
@shadowblack1987 So your saying their drilling in a place where they don't have a way of fixing a leak and they waited for a problem and then they decide how to fix it,it should be that they have a way of fixing a problem before they are allowed to drill,so its negligence on their part for not having a plan of action to fix a leak.
@shadowblack1987 I was welcomed to the adult world 36 years ago,wish people in these positions took their jobs serious enough that they acted like serious adults and thought about consequences and not just profits.
@shadowblack1987 Wishful thinking, I remember when tractor-trailers didn't have bumpers on the backs of trailers and it was a case of which cost more the law suits from the dead decapitated drivers that crashed into the back of them or the price of putting bumpers on all the trailers in the country.For years the bumperless trailers won out.
In a nutshell, the logistics involved in getting the equipment to the site. Too, testing-the condition of the blowout preventer had to be assessed. Think of the pressure involved with a mile column of mud on top of pump pressure, If the BOP separated from the well head, or disintegrated, the leak would have been made much worse.
Oh... it would have been a lot worse if the BOP disintegrated. Using explosives would only make a bad situation a lot worse-it would ensure that the flow wouldn't stop until the relief wells are completed later this summer.
@jibbi4one wrote: So ...I guess you're certain explosive blasting well would make well senario worse.
Yea..right, you know and everyone else is wrong.
The only people advocating such nonsense are the scientifically illiterate and nut jobs. The ideal was born from Russian uses to seal GAS well bores ON LAND... and they had a 20% failure rate. Use in unconsolidated clastics will lead to communication with other formations OR THE SURFACE. If wells in other formations, more blow outs!
Again, you're the fool that takes the gullible line, '...every possible measure is being explored.' On land or a mile deep in the ocean an explosion is still an explosion silly! Of course, everyone knows you're an expert in undersea rock strata formations and a explosive expert Mr. know-it-all.
BP + U.S. gov't + U.S. media= morons.
Again, this explosive detonation is for study of geology and demolition.
read: Christopher Brownfield, in an article at The Daily Beast
Yes, I am an expert in sedimentology and stratigraphy,ie, geology-munitions and ordinance, no. I could care less what some journalist has to say; I read technical/trade publications... you know, peer reviewed stuff. I listen to experts, not the mangled reports that end up as sound bites on the nightly news, or in the news papers.
@terribletimthepirate LOL!!! I guess I stand corrected someone can actually pass as being an expert simply by googling terminology. As per current reports oil is still flowing undersea. I hope BP stops gusher however the measure used.
No super genius can tell me they know for a FACT explosive plug if executed correctly will make undersea oil leak problem worst than it has been already.
@terribletimthepirate If you're an indication of how the petroindustry runs then we are in for some higher priced fuels at the pumps and catastrophic environmental pollution. Any wonder why nuke powerplants are a viable key alternative to hydrocarbon in a sane energy policy.
@terribletimthepirate Whata freakin' moron. YOU USE NUKE EXPLOSION AS A TOOL fool. It creates a GLASS PLUG at geostrata. The disadvantage is you can't ever drill for oil in that particular oil repository. Which cuts off profit for oil industry, any wonder gov't & oil industry come up with excuses NOT to nuke it.
Yea...The stupidity is the U.S. and other nations have created a complete BAN on nuclear detonation. They should go back to the Partial Test Ban Treaty to allow for peaceful detonation. Nuke explosions DO have a constructive purpose as long as it's done safely for a constructive effect. Reasons: catastrophe prevention of accidental oil/gas pollution, in-space propulsion, NEO earth impacts.
@Thetruthishere11 Yes, trying to do some legal research on TBT 'cause the treaty has backed itself in a corner and provisions in the treaty should be re-examined.
Computer codes can simulate explosion but there is a difference when a virtual explosion meets real explosion TBT legal language ( any real explosion is termed as a 'Test' ) NPT, CTBT, LTBT and OST all need to be examined.
@Thetruthishere11 the sea floor is already fractured. You actually "think" a nuke will miraculously seal them all. Without cracking it worse?
My theory is a nuke will take several fractures and make many more. It may even open the top of an ancient volcano.
IMHO, this repair is out of our hands. May God have mercy on all life on earth. No wonder we've been in quarantine for thousands of years. We're not very bright you know. If we were, none of this would have happened.
@terribletimthepirate Understandable,if only they had that valve at the bottom of the well like other countries this most likely would have been avoided,bet that gift to the oil industry will be taken away and that safety valve will be mandatory from now on.
@almostcapecod BP has a 3 stage BOP on this well. The annular donut was damaged in the drilling process. The blind rams didn't activate for unknown reasons, and the shear rams were prevented from closing because a joint where 2 pieces of pipe connect are in the zone of the BOP and they don't process the ability to slice though that amount of steel.
@almostcapecod because BP wanted to put a new pump over the leak so they wouldn'T lose too much MONEY... wake up people. Stop asking why we screw the planet, it's always about the FUCKING MONEY
@djlolypop Well looking at the NEW high def video showing the cut riser pipe,there is a bolt on flange,looks like about 6 bolts,why don't they just unbolt the riser pipe stub and bolt an open valve on the BOP where the riser pipe was,after bolting the valve on just shut it off. If they cant do something that simple they have no business down there.
@almostcapecod Are you joking? How long do you think it takes to drill a relief well? They started drilling these almost the same day the catastrophe was a fact.
I never knew thats what happened

@MySecretIsland It could also be the beginning of a change with some very difficult times beforehand.
You are, however, correct to point out that it is the end for a lot of people whose lives depend on the local fish habitat for their liveliehoods.
As bad as it will get, there are ways to change the system to bring about a more positive way of life than what caused this problem.
Cheers.

NOLApaul77 1 year ago
@NOLApaul77 Lets start by stringing the people screaming about gas prices and all that.
We are ALL responsible for this mess, don't kid for a second that its only the fault of BP. At least they are trying to contain the horror and fix it, already spending close to a billion dollars.
How much did you donate to help contain/fix the issue? Hmnn???
shadowblack1987 1 year ago
because it should be too much expensive compared to the lives of seas creatures and our children. Fuck BP, Fuck petrol, Fuck Total, Fuck them all.
I'll shit on your grave one day.

@almostcapecod because they just invented it.
shadowblack1987 1 year ago
@shadowblack1987 So your saying their drilling in a place where they don't have a way of fixing a leak and they waited for a problem and then they decide how to fix it,it should be that they have a way of fixing a problem before they are allowed to drill,so its negligence on their part for not having a plan of action to fix a leak.

@almostcapecod Of course... Welcome to the adult world.
shadowblack1987 1 year ago
@shadowblack1987 I was welcomed to the adult world 36 years ago,wish people in these positions took their jobs serious enough that they acted like serious adults and thought about consequences and not just profits.

@almostcapecod You must have been dreaming then. Here in the real world, profit comes on top everything.
shadowblack1987 1 year ago
@shadowblack1987 Wishful thinking, I remember when tractor-trailers didn't have bumpers on the backs of trailers and it was a case of which cost more the law suits from the dead decapitated drivers that crashed into the back of them or the price of putting bumpers on all the trailers in the country.For years the bumperless trailers won out.
almostcapecod 1 year ago
@shadowblack1987 Actually it has been used before just not a mile down on the ocean floor.
almostcapecod 1 year ago
@almostcapecod :
In a nutshell, the logistics involved in getting the equipment to the site. Too, testing-the condition of the blowout preventer had to be assessed. Think of the pressure involved with a mile column of mud on top of pump pressure, If the BOP separated from the well head, or disintegrated, the leak would have been made much worse.
terribletimthepirate 1 year ago
@terribletimthepirate THE damage done couldn't of been any worse with or without BOP. BLAST THE DAMN HOLE....
jibbi4one 1 year ago
@jibbi4one
Oh... it would have been a lot worse if the BOP disintegrated. Using explosives would only make a bad situation a lot worse-it would ensure that the flow wouldn't stop until the relief wells are completed later this summer.
terribletimthepirate 1 year ago
@terribletimthepirate So ...I guess you're certain explosive blasting well would make well senario worse.

If wells in other formations, more blow outs!
terribletimthepirate 1 year ago
@terribletimthepirate

@jibbi4one
Yes, I am an expert in sedimentology and stratigraphy,ie, geology-munitions and ordinance, no. I could care less what some journalist has to say; I read technical/trade publications... you know, peer reviewed stuff. I listen to experts, not the mangled reports that end up as sound bites on the nightly news, or in the news papers.
terribletimthepirate 1 year ago
@terribletimthepirate LOL!!! I guess I stand corrected someone can actually pass as being an expert simply by googling terminology. As per current reports oil is still flowing undersea. I hope BP stops gusher however the measure used.
No super genius can tell me they know for a FACT explosive plug if executed correctly will make undersea oil leak problem worst than it has been already.

@jibbi4one
hahahah... University of Google-from your arguments, it appears that you graduated cum laude.
terribletimthepirate 1 year ago
@terribletimthepirate If you're an indication of how the petroindustry runs then we are in for some higher priced fuels at the pumps and catastrophic environmental pollution. Any wonder why nuke powerplants are a viable key alternative to hydrocarbon in a sane energy policy.
jibbi4one 1 year ago
@jibbi4one
I never wrote that I worked in the petroleum sector; I said that I was a stratigrapher!
Yeah, using radioisotopes to boil water... that is the answer. I'd rather have climate change!
terribletimthepirate 1 year ago
@terribletimthepirate Whata freakin' moron. YOU USE NUKE EXPLOSION AS A TOOL fool. It creates a GLASS PLUG at geostrata. The disadvantage is you can't ever drill for oil in that particular oil repository. Which cuts off profit for oil industry, any wonder gov't & oil industry come up with excuses NOT to nuke it.
THE U.S. POLLUTION CONTINUES-FOOLS !!!
jibbi4one 1 year ago
@jibbi4one
nukes need to be considered
Thetruthishere11 1 year ago
@Thetruthishere11 Great someone agrees!!!
Reasons: catastrophe prevention of accidental oil/gas pollution, in-space propulsion, NEO earth impacts.
jibbi4one 1 year ago
@jibbi4one
There might be a loophole in the stupid treaty. This is really for selfdefense and not a 'test' weapon at all. Pretty sure the UN might agree.
Thetruthishere11 1 year ago
@Thetruthishere11 Yes, trying to do some legal research on TBT 'cause the treaty has backed itself in a corner and provisions in the treaty should be re-examined.
Computer codes can simulate explosion but there is a difference when a virtual explosion meets real explosion TBT legal language ( any real explosion is termed as a 'Test' ) NPT, CTBT, LTBT and OST all need to be examined.
This is a developing issue...
jibbi4one 1 year ago
@Thetruthishere11 the sea floor is already fractured. You actually "think" a nuke will miraculously seal them all. Without cracking it worse?
My theory is a nuke will take several fractures and make many more. It may even open the top of an ancient volcano.
IMHO, this repair is out of our hands. May God have mercy on all life on earth. No wonder we've been in quarantine for thousands of years. We're not very bright you know. If we were, none of this would have happened.

@a2zhandi
yes, look for video of it. it works. So does amfo
Thetruthishere11 1 year ago
@terribletimthepirate Understandable,if only they had that valve at the bottom of the well like other countries this most likely would have been avoided,bet that gift to the oil industry will be taken away and that safety valve will be mandatory from now on.
almostcapecod 1 year ago
@almostcapecod BP has a 3 stage BOP on this well. The annular donut was damaged in the drilling process. The blind rams didn't activate for unknown reasons, and the shear rams were prevented from closing because a joint where 2 pieces of pipe connect are in the zone of the BOP and they don't process the ability to slice though that amount of steel.

@almostcapecod because BP wanted to put a new pump over the leak so they wouldn'T lose too much MONEY... wake up people. Stop asking why we screw the planet, it's always about the FUCKING MONEY
TooLateProductions 1 year ago
@almostcapecod
because there will be a much greater oil spill than before if this fails.
there is a possibility of ripping the pipe apart when they close the leak, and then they wont be able to stop it anymore.
THEaaronTHE 1 year ago
@almostcapecod
probably because after this method you cannot get easily back on the oil, after this crisis is over. Unlike the other failed methods?

djlolypop 1 year ago
@djlolypop Well looking at the NEW high def video showing the cut riser pipe,there is a bolt on flange,looks like about 6 bolts,why don't they just unbolt the riser pipe stub and bolt an open valve on the BOP where the riser pipe was,after bolting the valve on just shut it off. If they cant do something that simple they have no business down there.
almostcapecod 1 year ago
@almostcapecod Are you joking? How long do you think it takes to drill a relief well? They started drilling these almost the same day the catastrophe was a fact.
