What I find weird is that Legend and Anniversary for the PS2 were smooth and had good graphics, but Underworld for the PS2 isn't as smooth or good looking. And Underworld was made AFTER Legend and Anniversary! What's up with that?
i finished this on ps2 my goodness was it glitchy iv been useing my ps3 alot more and when i go and play my ps2 it's too much of a difference not only the graphics the fact that im used to hdmi and then ps2 is blurry less smooth not enough mesh details all the detail is in the texture
i don't know why they trashed the ps2 version like that i really got angry on the ps2 version now i have a ps3 and got this game from a friend of mine and gess what i still didn't like the ps3 version ether just right after i played uncharted 1.
TR legend and the remake of TR1 on the ps2 is a lot better than the undreworld for ps2.

The PS2 verison was just downright terrible. It shouldn't even pass off as the same game. It's like playing a completly new game once you jump on any of the other consoles after that experience with the ps2. I remember moves were even missing in that one.

I played on an Xbox 360 and I love the game, but on PS 2, um the controls are real glitchy and some of the graphics looked way. different The game looked totally different to me, after playing the xbox 360 version. I would have played but the controls were so bad, that I said screw that. Great game to play on Xbox 360 though, or ps 3.
im not sure but i think game stop gave me a burned copy, cuz in my ps2 version all the cutscenes looked really pixely and the controls were very glitchy, was this just my gam or was the ps2 version way worse...?
@sucky53 I have a PS3 and a PS2, the gameplay is a lot better in PS3 games as well. The PS3 is a lot newer, so game developers can add a lot more creativity in PS3 games with it's newer hardware.
I'm normally not a stickler when it comes to graphics, but WOW, it doesn't even look like they tried to make TRU look decent on PS2. The graphics look "frosted," like they dulled the color then turned on the light. :\

this is because ps3 uses blu ray that has 50 g capacity where as ps 2 only has 4.7 g which makes ps2 less detail on the games..ps3 get 50 g...that is why they can put so many thing in the game to make it more realistic...but if HD dvd wins maybe, just maybe ps2 can play the game..which HD dvd has only 45 g capacity...but blu ray wins...

360 had less glitches, great DLC, rarely dropped the frame-rate and most of all didn't bloody crash all the time! And it wasnt just my copy i played 3 all done it. Blu-ray graphics doesn't make a game better

its because the cutscenes aren't made for PS2 version they just zipped from the wii, the prove is on the Mediterrean level, on the front of Thor is a secret on wii( but the same secret isn't in front of him an the PS2, its on his side) so play the cutscene and see
I read somewhere that they used the graphics and cutscenes from the Wii version in the PS2 version until half way through. I understand the importance of upgrading the engine for the best results - but if you can't do something right, don't do it at all. I'm disappointed with the PS2 version. You can't do most things as they stated you could. Not only that, but the graphics are better for Legend and Anniversary. Something wasn't right...

I bought an XBOX 360 on Saturday just so I can play Beneath the Ashes and Lara's Shadow.
The PS3 version is my favourite as i think the graphics are amazing
here is the true story of the PS2 & Wii versions.
Crystal Dynamcs were going to port the PS3 version to the PS2 and Wii. Buzz Monkey Software wanted to do the PS2 and Wii versions so that they could prove they could create a game on their own.
Because they used the PS3 ending and put it in the PS2 version. You can tell that only in the ending of the PS2 version that the graphics looked better and more realistic.
ps2 version. But first i saw on youtube that the graphics on ps3 was simply AMAZING!! i knew the ps2 one wouldn't be as great but i just wanted to play it SO badly. But when i started playing it, i was kinda disappointed... i didn't know the cutscenes and gameplay would look that different.
Yes, there are similarities, but look at the cutscene where Lara is on her boat at the beginning levels, the webcams aren't the same. Then look at the Thailand level, the environment didn't look as lush as ps3 version. Now i really wanna get a PS3

Want to know why the camera angles are different in some PS2 cutscenes???
BECAUSE THESE "DIFFERENT" CUTSCENES WERE SUPPOSED TO BE USED IN THE PS3 VERSION.
The current PS3 cutscenes came from the XBOX360 version. So the actual cutscenes you see in PS3, most of those came from the XBOX360 version. If you have a sharp eye you will notice that the framerate in the PS3 during gameplay and during cutscenes are different (around 28 fps at gameplay, 35-40 fps in the cutscenes)
IN THE DS VERSION THE CAMERA ANGLES IN SOME OF THE CUTSCENES ARE THE SAME IN THE PS2, FOR EXAMPLE THE MED SEA, IT'S THE SAME CUTSCENES WITH THE SAME CAMERA ANGLES BUT THE DS VERSION'S CUTSCENES ARE NEXT GEN. Now why is that?
Therefore I conclude that the ACTUAL PS3 CUTSCENES WERE PLACED IN THE DS VERSION. IF YOU HAVE BOTH A DS VERSION AND A PS2 VERSION, AND HAVE WATCHED PS3 TRU CUTSCENES, you would notice the big difference.
this was a good comparison, but next time you should use a cutscene that is exactly the same as the PS3 version, it doesn't look as good with different camera angles put together

Anyone who has played PS2 version (Including me) have you noticed, that when in Yggdrasil, Amanda doesn't have a jacket.. Then, when Lara and Amanda get out of Yggdrasil to Nepal, Amanda magically get's a jacket..

If u can get pass the flaws and technical problems, u will find this game is great. It's pity they didn't test this game enough. I don't know what the hell did their game testers do? Play and eat, but they did the "eat" part better.

its because the cutscenes aren't made for PS2 version they just zipped from the wii, the prove is on the Mediterrean level, on the front of Thor is a secret on wii( but the same secret isn't in front of him an the PS2, its on his side) so play the cutscene and see

I read somewhere that they used the graphics and cutscenes from the Wii version in the PS2 version until half way through. I understand the importance of upgrading the engine for the best results - but if you can't do something right, don't do it at all. I'm disappointed with the PS2 version. You can't do most things as they stated you could. Not only that, but the graphics are better for Legend and Anniversary. Something wasn't right...

They use the PS3 ending in the PS2 version. Crystal Dynamics didn't even try for Underworld on PS2.

I have Tomb Raider Underworld on PS3, PS2 , Wii and XBOX 360
I bought an XBOX 360 on Saturday just so I can play Beneath the Ashes and Lara's Shadow.
The PS3 version is my favourite as i think the graphics are amazing
here is the true story of the PS2 & Wii versions.
Crystal Dynamcs were going to port the PS3 version to the PS2 and Wii. Buzz Monkey Software wanted to do the PS2 and Wii versions so that they could prove they could create a game on their own.

Because they used the PS3 ending and put it in the PS2 version. You can tell that only in the ending of the PS2 version that the graphics looked better and more realistic.

i don't have PS3, so i decided to get the
ps2 version. But first i saw on youtube that the graphics on ps3 was simply AMAZING!! i knew the ps2 one wouldn't be as great but i just wanted to play it SO badly. But when i started playing it, i was kinda disappointed... i didn't know the cutscenes and gameplay would look that different.

Yes, there are similarities, but look at the cutscene where Lara is on her boat at the beginning levels, the webcams aren't the same. Then look at the Thailand level, the environment didn't look as lush as ps3 version. Now i really wanna get a PS3
Thanks for the comparison, but can you show the Thailand gameplay as well and compare that? Also show the cutscene of Lara at her boat at the Mediterrean Sea level. I'd like viewers to see the difference

Want to know why the camera angles are different in some PS2 cutscenes???
BECAUSE THESE "DIFFERENT" CUTSCENES WERE SUPPOSED TO BE USED IN THE PS3 VERSION.
The current PS3 cutscenes came from the XBOX360 version. So the actual cutscenes you see in PS3, most of those came from the XBOX360 version. If you have a sharp eye you will notice that the framerate in the PS3 during gameplay and during cutscenes are different (around 28 fps at gameplay, 35-40 fps in the cutscenes)

IN THE DS VERSION THE CAMERA ANGLES IN SOME OF THE CUTSCENES ARE THE SAME IN THE PS2, FOR EXAMPLE THE MED SEA, IT'S THE SAME CUTSCENES WITH THE SAME CAMERA ANGLES BUT THE DS VERSION'S CUTSCENES ARE NEXT GEN. Now why is that?
Therefore I conclude that the ACTUAL PS3 CUTSCENES WERE PLACED IN THE DS VERSION. IF YOU HAVE BOTH A DS VERSION AND A PS2 VERSION, AND HAVE WATCHED PS3 TRU CUTSCENES, you would notice the big difference.

Yea I agree ! I have both DS and PS2 and I've played it with my friend and she has PS3 and DS quality is so much better and has the same cut scenes.
I was really dissapointed with Underworld on PS2 they didn't try so that we'd buy PS3 games and PS2 would slowly die. My poor PS2. :(

this was a good comparison, but next time you should use a cutscene that is exactly the same as the PS3 version, it doesn't look as good with different camera angles put together
