I reckon money has nothing to do with it.I spent many a saturday afternoon in guitar shops before i found my dream guitar.A Japanese Tokai that totally blew me away.No chambers, just solid mahogany and a thick 59 neck.Only problem,it was pink quilt.I had it resprayed in gibson original gold and all for less than 800 pounds.
It eats alive any other guitar ive tried, simply because it obsviously got the best part of the tree.No one should buy guitars on the net,get out on foot.
As Carlos Santana so-eloquently put it, "great guitar-playing is all about soulfulness, sincerity, and simplicity. If you have those things, you pretty-much have a 4-star restaurant". And you have it, my friend. Nice tone. I'm actually getting similar tone out of a Dean Evo SS flame-top with Duncan Seth Lover p/u's. It has better sound and sustain than modern Gibsons and a Honduras mahogany body just like Les Pauls made prior to 1974 (when Gibson began using cheaper, heavier African mahogany).
its interesting noone is commenting on the fact that his simple equipement is worth about300 to 500 thousand dollars....depending on our amazing economy!
@STORYTASTIC the reason that gear is worth so much is BECAUSE it sounds like that ... If the prices were reasonable everyone would want that rig ... driving the prices back up
@longandmcquade Oh I know..I am a pro guitarist and you are absolutely right!!! amazing equipement is worth alot of money but its all relative..I am getting a beautiful Murphy aged 59 paul for 8 thousand dollars it sounds amazing...but its dirt cheap next to the real deal at 300 grand..lol its funny! cheers
The cab has as much to do with the tone as the other components....trust me on this. I have a lot of old Marshalls and cabs...a nice basketweave will make a mediocre Marshall sound better and a newer Marshall cab will make a nice old JTM45 sound mediocre. Nice combo here....really great!
I wont play anything else. Once you've played the best, forget the rest is what I say.....there is just something about that era from '66-'71 cabs that are magic. I own them with 15s, 20s, 25s, 30s and I even had one with newer 80 watters and they all sound great...it's not the speakers...its the cabs! If you ever want to sell your pinstripe, let me know!
It's a jtm45 pa, not a 45/100. Udo and others familiar with that amp helped me extensively when I was building a clone of it. I've seen the guts of that amp, almost bone stock jtm45 pa circuit.
I'm just sitting infront of my computer right now learnig it-thanks. I think I might of asked you this before ,but are you Betts? I sincerely like listening to him play more than anyone on youtube. He's got that KOSS thing going on:less is more with killer tone. I only wish he had a cd out.
i think i know why he has that look on his face: in "gittarre & bass", a german guitar magazine he writes for, he said that the frets on the guitar are pretty worn and the guitar was nearly unable to play for him
oh, by the way: did you know that this guitar was dickey betts (allman brothers band) original guitar?

can pay more for this kind of gear than you or I

I agree...the cab is very important. I have a few older Marshall JTM 45's with the matching cabs and they all sound great !!

i couldnt agree more......... i bought a 1966 pinstripe 4 x 12 cab and it added so much dry woody tone.
The cabs are often overlooked but are just as improtant as the amp head itself if not more so

i think i know why he has that look on his face: in "gittarre & bass", a german guitar magazine he writes for, he said that the frets on the guitar are pretty worn and the guitar was nearly unable to play for him
oh, by the way: did you know that this guitar was dickey betts (allman brothers band) original guitar?
mynameismrjohn 4 years ago
I speak to the guy occasionally so i know about the guitar and the amp (its actaully described as the betts toler burst in my description
They both sound fantastic
texascannonball 4 years ago
Absolutely Great Sound!
Love Gibsonvs. Marshall!
Fibson86 4 years ago
firstly the guy playing isnt me he is someone who writes for a german magazine and gets to play some cool guitars
You are correct he turns the amp up full and controls the volume and tone using the guitars own controls
texascannonball 5 years ago
That was great! And if you want to change the sound from clean to overdriven you just use your volume knob?
