in 1977 i was a bareback bronc rider, the bareback rideing was alwasys frist so after i rode we hurried over to athens to see MTB, we talked s#^t to the lady and got on the floor down frontn i had on tall tony lama boots with my pants inside and spurs still on, a 5"brim resistol hat and was geting into my air guitar when a boy and girl came up and said"if you want to go back stage come with us" they thought i had a MTB costume on, any way i did an got to party and meet the band. best time of life
I was lucky enough to see Marshall Tucker 13 times between 1976 and 1982 - 7 with Tommy - 6 without. One day in the spring of 1982, they announced on a friday that they would be giving a FREE concert the next day in Teaneck, NJ. They played for almost 2 1/2 hours. I was there, right up against the stage, George playing right in front of me. My cooler loaded with cold beer under the stage, I kept the Band from getting thirsty. It was good enough for an invite onto the Bus after the show. AWESOME!
one of the few songs that have ever made me tear up ... I love the one-note base solo at roughly 2:41 ... and then at 5:00 the son of a bitch says 'I lova ya darlin' to his fuckin wife ... on an album ... god damn that's cool.
@melree30, Me too. My dad would always sing it to me, I never heard the original until now. He passed away June 14th, 2011, and this is the first time I've heard the MTB rendition. I would give the world away just to hear my dad sing it one more time.
@msmit245 I'm sorry for your loss, truly, I'm always singing Tucker tunes to my 2 girls, even video taped singin Searchin for a Rainbow to my oldest while she was sleeping in a rocker.
Great post! Does anyone have any more songs from "Tenth" or "Tuckerized" they can post. I've searched in record shops, but never seem to find. Thanks again for the post... for a Carolina boy in the 70's, it didn't get any better than MTB!
Regardless of the nit picking who was who and who was best. These guys gave us some great music to enjoy for eternity. I cover their songs regularly and always smile with I sing their songs. And yes Toy was a fantastic guitarist. Blazing thumb.
just love the marshall tucker band they kicked ass a complete dvd with all the tv interviews toy and the band done in the seventies and eighties and along with toys film clips i heard the south calling me and midnight promises cause nothings available on toy and its a shame . love the original tucker band amen
I Love Ab;s Song too! Tommy played acoustic guitar on that too! "Melody Ann" is VERY Hard to find, you gotta have the actual Vinal LP to have it. I don't know why anyone hasn't bought the entire MTB catalog and remastered it yet. Its a Shame because Tommy was the true heart and soul of the MTB! God Rest his Soul!
i agree! but Doug Had the Voice, Tommy was really the force behind the band, if he was never there, there be no MTB. Toy and Tommy were alot better on the songwriting aspect of the band, George was too!

302ponyboy 10 months ago
@302ponyboy This is the only song he sang Lead on, "this Ole' Cowboy" was originally sung by Toy Caldwell.
I think Tommy had the best voice in the entire band.
