  • Mine crashed while rendering for some reason, then reopened it and half the clips are red :S usually before i can do anything it crashes and i have to close it and start again. Ocasionally I can get enough time to go to render but it stays at 1% or at different parts and i have to exit through task manager which then tells me its crashed :S I usually use HD clips and even higher resolution than these are :S please help

  • Mine Does That As well It Piss Me Off

  • sada

  • i gave up on this program after not being able to finish one of my bts videos, so i moved onto after effects. it works way better then this and i was able to get a lot better plugins. i honestly dont recommend sony vegas to anyone. dont waste your waste, because you're gonna have yourselves a big headache

  • @IGotSticky how long did it take you to figure out after fx? to get used to it.. i have after fx but when i opened it i was totally lost.. i have to find the time to go through some tutorials and stuff

  • @venompo8 it is very different but all you need to do is play around with it and you'll get the hang of it. im just happy that i switch because i managed to get some extremely awesome plugins that i wouldnt be able to with sony vegas.

  • @IGotSticky both programs have some advantages and disadvantagess so i think its the best when you know about both programs and use them both :)

ill have a try at after fx.. :)

  • @venompo8 keep both of them cause there's some things in vegas that you cant do in after effects and the same goes for both but if your gonna go ahead and get the programs why not get all of them sony vegas is a good prep program to train you for after effects

  • @IGotSticky I think I will take your advice too and try it out, Vegas just pisses me off these days..... > <""

  • @xAngelxHeartxx lol did you have the same problems? were you able to finish your videos?

  • @IGotSticky I have had very similar problems but only in rendering, I've very rarely gotten the red clips problem. But I never had these errors when I first started and it's slowly worsened!! D: I was able to finish one video, I'm trying to get the other one to render! But it works better when you render things in parts.

  • @xAngelxHeartxx yes, you use less clips, means you use less memory & ram ETC... BUT are you really gonna make a whole bunch of little clips instead of one small 3-4 minute video or maybe more?

  • @IGotSticky Exactly, it's really annoying, but I have to do it since it's the only editing software I have that is decent!! :( It's soooo irritating.

  • How do you re-encode the clips. All of them are just Red and when you preview most clips are Black or Red, and constant crashing =/

  • @darren55555555 and which do you reccomend?

  • I had this problem a couple of months ago with a video I made. It worked the day before but then I had this problem when rendering then it crashed. I have rendered other things before and after, and it hadn't happened since.

  • im running windows 7 with 3.7GB of ram and it still keeps fucking up for me =[ fml

  • Hmmm ... I seem to have the same problem.

The way I fix it: Save the project, set the Preview Quality to Draft-Auto, exit Sony Vegas, then re-open it and voila it's fixed

The reason why this happens is because you probably have the preview quality set to the highest setting, and that makes Sony Vegas consume more RAM.

With the preview quality set to Draft, the problems disappeared suddenly.

I'm running W7 on 3 GB of RAM, so I don't know how yours is going to act.

Give it a try, you never know..

  • @sharp9939 how pls tellme

  • @sharp9939 Tnx!

  • Thanks!

  • ok guys, just had this problem and do what soul rebel says, that did not work for me, but keep that box unchecked, also uncheck the box that says "use windows DV codec" also i downloaded shark007's codec pack (look it up or can provide link if anyone comments" this is how i fixed it, just throwing in another suggestion if soulrebels doesnt work.

    cheers.

  • @GazzaProductions will this work for window 7

  • what if you open it and it plays through fine. and you start adding clips and your transitions and effect edits turn red? is there anyway i can change quality to videos already in sony vegas without re uploading for a non laggy preview as well?

  • my whole video is red. It still is after I reopen Vegas. And it wont show up on the screen either.

  • thankyouuuuuuuuuu <3<3 xD

  • So you change the codec? Does that mean compressing the file into a completely different file type from virtualdub? (i.e. AVI->MP4). If that's what you're doing could you tell me how or make a tutorial how? (can't seem to find out how to get avi to mp4 vdub codecs).

  • Your screen is like huuuuuge

  • @MonsterMikeMonster naah just a 22'' samsung screen with 1680×1050 resolution :D

  • @venompo8 Syncmaster perhaps? i've got 2!

    anyway, it actually helped!

  • @MonsterMikeMonster i haveSyncMaster 2233BW, nice monitor :D

  • @venompo8 I've got a 226bw! same resolution

    (and i've got a 2343NW standing next to it ^^ (2048×1152)

  • It didn't work at all for me...

Should I be downloading some codecs?

  • @ElephantShoeToo hmm i dont know but you can try installing the K-Lite Codec Pack which is the best Codec Pack for me

  • @venompo8 It was happening to be only in Sony Vegas 9, but ever since I went back to 8, it's been fine. And I've already had the the K-Lite Codec Pack.

  • Thanks alot this helped!

  • mine does it to different clips everytime it's so bloody annoying, i was on clip 44/46, then i was ready to upload but ofcourse 10 minutes before i upload this stuff happens and it's been for 3 days.

  • his answer didn't work for me. Simply didn't show, following by the all-famous sony vegas crashing...

  • @SoulRebelXII : omg it really worked thanks a bunch

@venompo8 : thanks for the video, my friend used your method and it worked too :)

  • @Sacredlith you are welcome :D

  • Can you explain how to get rid of the red clip issue.

  • @Soul

    Thank you!!

  • I have a red clip and it freezes sony vegas

  • Can you explain how you fixed it?

  • i changed the codec of the clips with VirtualDUB before inporting them to Vegas

  • Hey bud, here try going under options - preferences - and UNCHECK the box that says "close media files when not active applications..." now exit reopen your project. You might see the red clips still but play your videos anyways, it should work. For further test, render the whole project it should work. If you get the message "memory low......etc" try rendering it in highquality not HD, cazz HD takes lots of space. Well I hope that helped. pz

  • i fixed the problem but thx anyway :D

if something goes wrong in my next project ill try this.. :D thank you

  • Thank you so much! Great help.

(between you and me - I love you)

  • @SoulRebelXII ,

thank you, i was in panic when half of my project turned red, but your solution just saved my project :-)

    THANK YOU

  • @Fromzon your welcome [ ^____^ ]y

  • I know your comment is old and everything, but I tried your suggestion to fix the red clips in Sony Vegas and it didn't work. :( Is there anything else I can do to fix it?

  • @DYvideos

Hey bud, unfurtonately I only know how to make the red clips work after having an error, but making it go away that I don't know yet.

  • omfg dude thanks your a life saver

  • ur welcome ^__^ y

  • SoulRebelXII-

dude!!!! i love you!!!! thanks sooooo much!!!!! it worked!!

  • I'm glad I can help ^__^ y

  • @SoulRebelXII

The first bit (options, preferences, uncheck "close media files when not active applications..." Worked a charm! THANKS!!!

  • I have this problem and it only occurs to one project that has a lot of edits. Vista uses 1.2 gb or your RAM automatically, plus other applications, services, processes, etc. For the red frames, I made my appearance to WIndows Classic and closes all unneeded "stuff". It should open fine, then render your project in pieces, after that render it as one big file.

I have 3 gb RAM, not sure about you.

  • i havee 4..

but only 3,2 works..... becausee its 32bit XP....

i fixed the problem.... it was the codec of the clips....

  • Happend to me too. Just now and another time :(. I hate it.

  • those red parts/frames means that you have corrupted files. try re-encode those and see how it works. that why is crashing too.

  • yes, I think this is the problem.

    Thank You

  • What do you mean by re-encode?

And also, why does it happen, because I didn't do anything to make it happen?

  • how i re-encode?

  • please could u explain a bit better cause im not good at english cause my friend has this problem and it always crashes of the red clips
