Do you mean Essenes in general or just a few nutters? Are you claiming that noone in the first century knew about the difference between apocalyptic and historical writings?! If not, what's your point?

Here's a bit of scientific fact for you - Essenes, who had a thing for apocalyptic writings, ran for the hills as a result of their belief in reality of apocalyptic literature. So much for people of first century knowing about genres and metaphors.
