I may be incorrect, but I am sure that the big bang theory applies only to the known universe, and is not a definite indication of the beginning of "everything".
It is entirely possible that there have been several (or an infinite number of) "big bangs", which opens up the idea of infinite as a reality. Just my 2 cents.
Yes, if there are other universes, they would have been the product of different events, not our universe's Big Bang (except for certain theories which allow our Big Bang to be the origin of several universes, but even then there may be other universes still that it wouldn't apply to).
I guess one of my biggest issues with the creationist argument is that, to quote Venomfang, "there cannot be an infinite amount of time before now" - which I always thought silly as they set human limitations to that which has no limits, and play semantics with it.
I just think it's impossible at this stage to make a judgement either way. =)

Second, you still have a problem with the "before." Even if, say, Loop Quantum Gravity is true and our Big Bang was formed when another universe collapsed, or M-theory is true and it formed when two membranes collided, it was still the start of OUR time dimension.

I may be incorrect, but I am sure that the big bang theory applies only to the known universe, and is not a definite indication of the beginning of "everything".
It is entirely possible that there have been several (or an infinite number of) "big bangs", which opens up the idea of infinite as a reality. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, if there are other universes, they would have been the product of different events, not our universe's Big Bang (except for certain theories which allow our Big Bang to be the origin of several universes, but even then there may be other universes still that it wouldn't apply to).

I guess one of my biggest issues with the creationist argument is that, to quote Venomfang, "there cannot be an infinite amount of time before now" - which I always thought silly as they set human limitations to that which has no limits, and play semantics with it.
I just think it's impossible at this stage to make a judgement either way. =)

One can say nothing of what happened before the big bang. We have absolutely no information about what existed before the singularity. There is no reason whatsoever to say that nothing existed before it, or that it was the beginning of our universe.

Not entirely true.
First of all, although you're correct that we have no information from it, there are theories that are supported by observations. The LHC may give us more insight into which of these theories could be correct.
Second, you still have a problem with the "before." Even if, say, Loop Quantum Gravity is true and our Big Bang was formed when another universe collapsed, or M-theory is true and it formed when two membranes collided, it was still the start of OUR time dimension.

Consider what you are saying regarding time. Time starting/stopping. If all time in a universe stops, completely, the is no forward, no change, at all. No evens can "happen". Time must always be in motion.

Time IS a dimension. JUST like the three space dimensions. It has the same properties, it works with the same equations, it has the same Planck limit, etc. You could, if you wanted, measure time in meters.

It's not a silly question, it's just not ultimately answered by M-theory. Membranes can form from other membranes, but the ultimate cause (if there is one), or whether they go back ad infinitum, isn't covered by the theory.
If you were to create a Big Bang in the lab, it wouldn't take any of the matter or energy of our universe. It would make its own space-time to exist in, and form its own properties.

Our current observable universe began at the big bang but it is unknown whether the universe is actually eternal. There are theories such as String Theory and Cyclical Universe Theory that attempt to model such a universe. But the plain fact is that we just dont know....yet.
