@MrPaulHicks I DO!!! He wrote it with his son, Eddie Shaver. He's the first one I ever heard sing it! One of my all time favorite songwriters!! I think the Orignal Poster should add Billy Joe's and Eddie's name to the Title Info and key words...
The sad part, they were right. This song was perfect for these guys. I'm gonna live forever, I'm gonna cross that river, I'm gonna catch tomorrow now. Like the songs they leave behind them, they will live forever.
@beestonpoet - WHO ARE YOU OR WHAT DO YOU KNOW - OBVIOUSLY VERY LITTLE AND NOTHING ABOUT THE CLASS THAT IS, WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE INCOMPARABLE HIGHWAYMEN AND ALL THEIR MEMBERS
@beestonpoet Willie Nelson has a very soulful voice. If you listen very closely and understand the soul of music you can hear a mixture of emotions from a long life lived. Willie was a great friend to both Waylon and Johnny before they died and Kris. And the Highwaymen were about friendship, having fun, and celebrating their lives and careers with their friends and family.
One of my favourite songs by one of the greatest combinations of talent ever. Love this version. Love BJS's of course. But also, have you checked out Joe Ely's version too? Brilliant.
oh its a really beautiful piece of music, such really simple but very meaningful lyric.....have loved this track for years, but it only came back to me a few days ago...
This has ben on you tube for the better part of five and a half months and only two people have stepped up to testify as to the greatness of this rendition of a truly righteous tune from The Shavers! What is wrong with that picture? Come on people over 2700 have banged on this site, let's show a little appreciation to: You Tube for the space provided, undi46 for the upload, &Willie,Waylon,Johnny,&Kris for a very fine effort on a song for the ages! And please don't forget Billy Joe&Ernie Shaver
RIP Richard Dunn

Marvelous version of this song, don't knock it. Billy Joe's version is good in it's own right. Appreciate both versions.

Add Billy Joe Shaver to the title. Highwaymen rock, but this is Shaver's piece. Don't sell the man short!

A great song in itself ... but sung by these folks, it takes on a whole new dimension. The harmony vocals are out of this world.
