The 80s BLOB had a fantastic hook for a sequel, with the disfigured and insane preacher showing the little bloblette he'd collected in a jar ("The Lord will give me a sign!") and I would LOVE to see that followed up.
my friend was asking me for a good movie to watch on netflix. the originals werent there! the thing was, thats it. so we found halloween resurection. i knew it sucked, but they didnt have any john carpenter movies either! so i said it sucks but it has busta rhymes, so itll be fun atleast.
You know I've never under stood the point of making a horror outer-space movie other than to create mass hysteria about aliens (like today's people). Sure they may be awesome and cool but that shit can really F*** a persons mind to hell. Same can probably be said about zombie movies, I mean there is now talk of a zombie apocalypse this year. When will this apocalypse take place and how will it reach all the way around the earth in a short time. People please this isn't RESIDENT EVIL! seriously.
@LovemyKratos A hobo is sleeping next to his dog when our hero runs past him in the park and notices a pod next to them. He's being chased, so he just kicks the pod and keeps running. The dog/hobo hybrid is the result of the damaged pod.
i love all of the invasion of the body snatchers movies i espiecially love the concept itself but my favorite is the original the reason it is is because i found the ending really scary (spoilers) what i got out of it was that he warned people but that nobody would believe him because it was exactly like when the main character himself tried to warn other people (spoilers ends here) the one from the 70's was too long and boring to me but it had a great ending
@drybones68 I was going to comment anyways.53 years ago at age 5 I was taken to see "The Blob".I was 5 & IF I knew what a horror film is,well a kid actually lives a movie I was so scared for weeks.Luckily there were lots of great Disney movies to see.Looking at this Blob I can see all the stupid fake effects but I'll never forget seeing that blob ooze through the heating system into the room.I was right there in my 5 year old head.
@JamesNintendoNerd I am a 14 year old movie goer and before seeing you videos I never knew of the beuty of old movies hell I now wish I was born in the late 70's to see them and thee old consoles.
Ha! American teenagers actually giving a shit to help their town. Thats funny. Today teens would laugh at the people being eaten and then go complain about something on Facebook.
the strangest thing to me is the blob from the 50s looks just like this sweet & sour sauce from this chinese restaurant in my town . CREEPY. i am eating the blob muahaha
"younger generations may not be aware that it is a remake"... i think of "the thing" now with the prequel out, people call the 1982 thing the original.... yeah, right.. that is a remake of a classic 1950s movie, if you didn't know.
but there are very few movies I've seen where I could honestly say, "this should not have been made."
just about EVERYTHING has some value. even if it's a shot-for-shot remake, something like the effects could be really good. or it could be laughably bad. take some of the worst movies ever made: The Room, Batman and Robin, Plan 9. are the good? HELL NO. but are they entertaining? oh, hell yes.
for me, the worst thing a movie can be is either:
way I see it, I have no problem with sequels or remakes, so long as:
A. it's a new story. if you just make the same exact movie over again (take the Nightmare on Elm Street sequel for example), there's no point.
B. but if it IS the same story, try and improve on it in some way. if the original had a good idea, but bad acting, improve on the script and direction. if the original had terrible effects, but everything else was solid, improve the effects.
I agree with James on his remake speech. That's why I like Rob Zombie's remake of 'Halloween'. He made it similar to the original, but he threw in his own ideas and made it his own movie. While it's still not as good as the original it just shows you how you should do a remake. Do them like that and they could be good.
the '93 Body Snatches used to scare the piss outta me. I hated when they'd scream "Waaaaaaahhhhhhhh!" it disturbed me as a child. Now I just laugh at how fuckin' stupid it really is. I mean...
i do think remakes bury the originals.. some remakes can be good.. like the 1982 the thing and the 80s blob, but like james said, lets not forget the classics that inspired the remakes. the classics are usually better, and if they aren't, at least if they weren't made, the remakes would have never existed too.
While I do agree that most modern movie goers refuse to watch old black and white movies just because it's black and white, they also don't want to see them because the effects are pretty corny.
The Invasion of the body snatchers... hmm y does that sound familiar? Aww yeah the Simpsons comic book i bought a long time had the same STORY!! Homer goes all crazy coz every one in springfield was asleep and turned into those pod people...
I'm so tired of seeing remakes. It was kind of fun early on in the 2000's when we saw Dawn of the Dead remade, but now it's like Hollywood is just trying make a dollar. I have no problem with that, except A) they're doing it at the expense of burying the originals that made the concept so great, and B) it's giving the studios excuses to lack originality. Don't get me wrong, some remakes I love, but I'd like to see some new concepts done which haven't yet been touched.
my version of the blob remake would be set in the 50s and follow the same story instead of making a completely different version and the blob would be REAL FX only CG if really needed...
"Oh look at me, I'm John Carpenter! I can't produce decent suspense or incite fear, so I just put in more blood!" I mean, God, he must have some kind of gore fetish.
@Strayed601 Except, you know, when he produced some serious suspenese in the 1982's the Thing, along with some of the goriest effects in history? Having one doesn't mean that you can't have the other. In the Mouth of Madness was another great movie from the guy, and had some extremely creepy suspense sequences.
@Lightice1 Maybe it's just me, but I just find that gore is just going for shock value. All the great moments of suspense in the thing are ruined by the almost cartoony gore. It's the same problem I have with every "Horror"
(Slasher) movie these days. Let's just agree that we disagree on this.
@Strayed601 The problem applies to many movies, but in the Thing gore was perfectly justified by the plot, and supported the style the movie was going for. In fact I'd like to make to get the makers of poor gorefests take notes of the film on how to make a good movie with gore in it.
I find it childish to think that there's just one way to make good horror. Mere gore certainly doesn't make horror on its own, but depending on the genre it can be used to very good effect at times.
@Lightice1 I'm fine with gore, as long as it isn't done in excess. For me, that's, my problem with Carpenter, he frequently crosses that line. Twice. Look, it's just my opinion, and looking back, my original comment was downright offensive. I concede the argument to you.
Those movies are great, some times WAY better without the special effects, cause sometimes they focus way too much on the effects and forget about the story cause they think were dumb. King Kong is the best remake by far.
@supercrapnstuff11 it is sad,i saddly am the only one in my house that can watch a black and white movie from as far as the silent era,not because everyone in my house hates them though, just that the pase is slow therefore it becomes relaxing and puts them to sleep,my sister can fall alseep dracula, its like a lullaby to her

Talk about people now days have no idea of the films that are actually remake. There is this one guy that believe Silent Hill games are base on the Silent Hill movie. I was speechless.
Im a 12 year old kids, and I hate CG and love old films, My Favorite is the War Of The worlds, And I wanna see "The Lost World" from the 1920's, I dont look foward to seeing alot of the newer films that come out because most are CG, The old classics are my favorite thing to do, but people think im wierd just because I like old films like in black and white and old, We need to teach other kids, some culture into movie making, like me, im making movies, and I wont EVER use CG :)
@ken01ization I havent seen the third one, and according to the responses the films been getting from both fans and critics, I think I shouldnt be to bad. Beating the second one isnt that hard though. I dont know were Bay was going with that one... robotic women? Racist autobots? And... *shudder*... devestators testicles....
I think if the blob will be remade, it should take a step further like in the 80's remake. In 1988, we got to see people get dissolved. How about in this new remake we have the blob land in the middle of a densely-populated area, have tons of people that get devoured by the blob and have it grow so huge it could swallow Godzilla no prob. THAT would be awesome.
The original "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" was one of the first movies I ever saw, love the narration by the main character too. Favorite line has to be:
"I've been afraid a lot of times in my life, but I didn't know the real meaning of fear until... until I had kissed Becky. "
He has this stupid notion that actors and directors past that time frame didn't know what they were doing very well. I of course, argued with him and called him a moron.
My friend's just like what you talked about in the end. He practically refuses to watch black and white movies, just because they're black and white. Also because of the effects etc. He can't stand to watch any movie that's over 10 years old.
The 80s BLOB had a fantastic hook for a sequel, with the disfigured and insane preacher showing the little bloblette he'd collected in a jar ("The Lord will give me a sign!") and I would LOVE to see that followed up.

Like Transformers, Michael Bay bent that cartoon series over and had his way with it.
Omajani 7 months ago
@Omajani To be honest the first Bay transformers wasnt that bad. It had to be updated, and I think he did it well.

@Themastercode1235 then the 2nd one I thought sucked and the 3rd one was ok. He went from awesome to terrible to mildly alright.
lykins8 4 months ago
@Themastercode1235 yup but the second one sucked ass and the third on was ok but not as good as the first one in my opinion
ken01ization 4 months ago
@ken01ization I havent seen the third one, and according to the responses the films been getting from both fans and critics, I think I shouldnt be to bad. Beating the second one isnt that hard though. I dont know were Bay was going with that one... robotic women? Racist autobots? And... *shudder*... devestators testicles....
Themastercode1235 4 months ago
I saw Planet of the Apes last night, not knowing that it was a remake! That's just crazy when you see a remake, not knowing that it is what it is!

The remake of the blob is creepy! DX i think i might have nightmares and i can't stop seeing it
kappa139 7 months ago
Netflix only has the Beware! THIS MOVIE!
-_-
nightbane2 7 months ago

how did you not mention that one of the actors in one of the Body Snatcher remakes looks like freaking SPOCK!

He has this stupid notion that actors and directors past that time frame didn't know what they were doing very well. I of course, argued with him and called him a moron.
BlackKanano 8 months ago
My friend's just like what you talked about in the end. He practically refuses to watch black and white movies, just because they're black and white. Also because of the effects etc. He can't stand to watch any movie that's over 10 years old.
