Keep in mind that all of these German WWII newsreels were propaganda. It was at this point only a matter of time before everyone closed in on them and finished them off. Like many people have said including Napoleon and Harry S. Truman, history is always written by the winners. Many of the German soldiers weren't fighting for Nazism, they were fighting for their homeland and way of life.

The scenario I've mentioned would have taken more Western lives and manpower and more time - the Allies at Yalta decided to give Stalin their support and have the Russians fight on in the East - the tradeoff was having half of Europe to be under Stalin's thumb, and a Communist Russia getting the atomic bomb and threatening the West for the next fifty to sixty years. Either way though the Germans had to be defeated.

I'm not a neo-Nazi or Nazi sympathizer, but they were fighting Bolshevism and were trying to eradicate it. The more ideal scenario would have been Germans defeating the Soviets and then eventually the U.S. and the combined forces of the British Empire eventually defeating the Germans. Russia could have been liberated by the Western forces and gradually been brought into the fold as a somewhat more enlightened and democratic Western-type nation. Anyway, this was "only" 90 kms from Berlin. Still, the Germans held through and not until the Battle of the Seelow Heights from April 16, 1945 until April 19, 1945, would the Soviets succeed to cross the Oder permanently.

Watch the weapons in 0:47 the men got and in 0:51. Thats a very rare weapon who oly was produced in the last moths of the war. Its the Volkssturmgewehr, 600S/min an 30 rd mag. Oly 53000 were produced and was extreme cheap.

The Germans produced very many cheap weapons in the later war, Eg. Panzerfaust MP3008 VG1 and so on.

Unfortunately they also seem to have been issued a lot of StG 44, which would have been a lot more useful in more experienced hands. Rather typical of the last stages really, ever new units formed who always got the newest equipment, the veterans were in turn strawed of adequate supplies and equipment.
