I could name many instances where I was surprised at the sudden plot twists in Avatar, except the cliche antagonist-character development-now sudden protagonist (Zuko), but that all makes good storytelling as it builds tension and anticipation in the audience wondering what the outcome of these events are. I'm not saying Naruto is bad, just that I prefer Avatar. Good for you that you like Naruto.

I've watched both and I've gotta say Avatar had a much better storyline.

I thought Naruto in the very early beginning was okay, and slightly believable that they were ninjas.

I think avatar would win for a few simple facts. one they dont run out of bending and they don't need hand signs for their techniques. second the avatar world has more advanced tech then naruto they have subs tanks and airships. thirdly avatar uses dragons flying bison and plenty of other giant creatures that could easily match the giant dogs and snakes in naruto. fourth it actually has a decent if not good storyline naruto fails in this area they have full episodes of fillers full episodes of

1. To be honest, Part I of Naruto wasn't that bad; but in Part II, the plot/pacing seems to pick up only when Sasuke makes an appearance.

2. Tenzin is the youngest of Aang & Katara's 3 children; M&B have yet to divulge the identities of the other two. (Considering Tenzin's possible age - mid 40s, the age of Aang & Katara at the end of TLA, & the timeskip - 70/75 years later, I'd say he was born when the two were almost in their 40s.)
