What is needed for this to occur are the grand father and the father to be the same tabby colors then the Calico mother has the kitten that is white with the colorpoints.
I recently adopted a cat from the shelter--I was excited to find out he actually is considered a "breed," a colorpoint shorthair! He's got slightly longer hair, so he's probably a mix of something else, but he has a wonderful, loving, playful personality--a truly great pet. If you're looking for this breed, be sure to check your local humane shelter! You might luck out like I did. :)
kunzy3000: Well, you may not be able to get papers documenting the purebred status of an adopted animal, but you sure can find a lot of animals that are pretty obviously purebred. (And unless you're planning to show or breed, who needs papers? =]) Purebred animals are abandoned, too. I personally prefer to adopt, but of course as you say, someone wanting a guaranteed purebred cat should consult a reliable breeder or better yet, a rescue organization for that breed.
I have a 11 year old colorpoint female
