  • magnifique ses chanson country chanter par RICKY

  • Great California country sound .I wasn't disappointed at all

  • Yep, that's James Burton. Rick wanted his own musicians not just studio regulars....so he rounded up some top guys, who eventually became the Stone Canyon Band. Great band.

  • He was a natural for country music.

  • @cagney24...you are very lucky to have known him....but I feel like I knew him.Never missed the show...always felt like I was a part of the family!

  • Thanks a lot, Mom and Dad......couldn't even stay through the whole song.

    Fooey

  • unforgettable in Rio Bravo

  • check out the band... is that Willie to the right?

  • @wdchefdave56

I believe that's James Burton. Also played guitar for Elvis.

  • @wiscokkid you bet he did!

  • @wdchefdave56 Willie was already an established singer-songwriter at the time this came out, so I doubt he'd be doing session work, especially on an electric guitar:)

  • Ozzy should have been reprimanded for talking over James Burton's guitar solo- most inconsiderate for us Burton worshippers! Rick's country albums get overlooked as they were ground-breaking- people talk about The Byrds, Dylan and Gram Parsons doing the early country rock stuff but Ricky was there in 1966 so was one of those pioneers.

  • The original American Idol.

  • "if memories were all i sang, i'd rather drive a truck" he wasnt kidding!

  • @omarskats3000 you're probably right but I just can't imagine Elvis saying that as he actually came from the working class while Ricky came from the upper middle class No criticism just two different views

  • American music legend forever.

  • Miss you Ricky

  • I agree with the sincere compliments for a simple and true Mr Nice Guy with a unique voice, who did not get the praise that he deserved, during his time. Yeah, he is sadly missed now, but his music shall live-on...! May he Rest in Peace... J

  • NOSTALGHIA

  • I'll never get over him.

  • Thanks for the post.

  • He was one of the best!

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Rick once. What a doll. Not only was he so handsome, and a great entertainer, he was such a nice person. He is so missed, by so many. Thanks Rick, for the wonderful songs, and memories. Nance86

  • hey ricky....YOU'RE FROM JERSEY!

    cute tho ♥

  • Ricky, Thanks for the Memories.......Your Pal forever....

  • Just like parents to talk through the guitar solo! The first song, "I Catch Myself Crying," is a Roger Miller composition that Rick got from a Jim Reeves record.

  • "I Catch Myself Crying" has got to be one of the most heartbreaking songs I've ever heard. Ricky puts so much emotions into it that we do start to catch our selfs crying. Rest In Peace Ricky Nelson. Thanks for the beautiful music you've shared with us down through the years.

  • The RICK part of him as opposed to Ricky. I love his deeper voice. GREAT!

  • First song is "I catch myself crying."

  • Wonder who got stuck sweeping up the sawdust in the malt shop after this?

RIP Rick. You were one of the best.

  • i'm a fan of Ricky's music. Country or rock.

    Same with Elvis.

naysayers, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything.

  • @no1countryfan Elvis was a regular at the Nelson home. Also he shared his guitarist with Elvis.

  • Yes Rick Nelson was a good Guy! and his kids are all nice too. But I never liked his wife. She was more into herself than anyone should be. I miss him still!

  • c est exceptionnel , pas de mot pour le dire.

  • truck driving man is in E though not C

    wle

  • bravo e terribilmente sexy ::))

  • Most of the soft sounds of what we would refer to as romantic Rock"n"Roll, were all played in the key of C,no matter what people have heard,Ricky was a great guy,and I have heard a lot of stories concerning him,he was my friend, going all the way back to 1958,I know his kids now,I am still in touch with all of them,so if anyone would like any info firsthand about him, please feel free to ask.Sincerely, The Original Chevelles. Chuck Bruni

  • Thanks for the post.

  • "This guy was also a legend to me. He taught me to play the guitar basics.

    C A-minor F and G7. Then I went D E G and Folk . Thanks Ricky!"

  • :57 Kris looks so proud and in love with him!

  • To all the Ricky fans here, let a personal friend of his tell you he was as good a guy offstage as he was onstage and on screen. By the time I met him he had been through the hard times with drugs and divorce, and was comfortable in his own skin again, and feeling upbeat about the future. Making good records too. His music brings back only good memories, but it now also reminds me of warm friendship, and one man's life, that ended way too soon. To say I miss him is an understatement.

  • Thanks for sharing your memories of Rick Nelson. It is good to know that he was a good person. His music set the bar just a little higher for those that followed. I fell in love with guitar the moment I heard the deep clear chords on Ricky's "Lonesome Town." Still playing almost every day.

  • @cagney24 Thanks for letting us know he WAS a good man as well. He looked like one, but you know what they say..Appearances can be deceiving.

  • @cagney24

That's great to hear-his voice was one of the common threads in the music I listened to as akid with my older brother, and still love to this day.

  • @cagney24

I agree. I watched Rick Nelson grow up on TV. LOVED all this songs.....He left way too early. MISS HIM:))))

  • @cagney24 I dont know much about the guy. but when I was a shorty, i came across a re-run of the families show. He was singing I'M WALKING'... I knew something was special about him. He was blessed!!! I WILL NEVER FORGET THE IMPACT HE MADE IN MY LIFE!!

  • @cagney24 Yeah and he put the "Y" back in his name and returned to the IMPERIAL sound --so much so that he seemed embarrased when he performed Garden Party

  • One of the greatest Rock n' Rollers, Ricky does country just as well.

  • I think that first one might be my favorite Rick Nelson song.

  • Your parents walk out before the song's over? They couldn't wait another 30 seconds? That hurts.

  • i really miss Rick too, he was definatly running with the big dogs back in the day. elvis worried rick would always knock hin off the charts. he just had a soothing voice and his mannerisms made you like him right away. a true rock n roll legend. glad his sons are keeping his music alive.

  • I love this version of Truck Drivin' Man. On the record Burton majors on Dobro-this version he's doing his Telecaster thing and it's just a little less hectic- although I like both!

  • The first song is called "I Catch Myself Crying" from his 'Love And Kisses' LP in 1965. I believe it was written by Roger Miller

  • @gns423 --yes, and it was originally recorded by Jim Reeves, though I think Rick's version is far superior...if he released this in the 1970's, it is a huge pop hit...

  • what's the first song called?

  • Ricky is my idol.even though he's gone he is always here.I listen to ricky everyday.I sure do mis him.Ruthie

  • I loved him!!!! Weeellll I still do!! Cried for days when he died. Still missed Ricky. Your music is GREAT.

  • He could do it all...

  • great!

  • I loved him.

  • My dear, R. Nelson died along time ago! I am very sorry! He was born to be the best, but Elvis was around at the time, and the King is the King. The world lost 2 fantastic voices of ever...

  • Legendary and young guitarist James Burton and Joe Osborn in the background.

  • Well it sounds like the name of the first one is I CATCH MYSELF CRYING

  • +++++

  • anyone have his copy of "Congratulations"?

  • Einfach cool!!!

Der Hut von Roi Bravo steht ihm besser...

  • Hach, schöne Schnulze! ...aber der HUT!!!

    Aaaaaaaaaah........!!!

  • somebody knows the name of the first song?

    thanks

  • I believe it's "I catch myself Crying" by Jim Reeves.

  • The Voice. The Man. Met him in Vallejo CA when he played the fair. Nice guy.

  • RICKY NELSON IS A ROCK N ROLL LEGEND......nuff said.

  • nostalgie

  • Thanks for the post.

  • I love Rick doing Truck Drivin Man... I've watched this video many times and played along on my Tele. This is the first time I've noticed Ricks wife Chris Harmon sitting in the audience.

  • Yes but he had a better version than this. Wish I could find it.

  • So the FBI killings are a conspiracy hox? Well, it just goes to show, not every paranoid conspiracy is for real.Says so in the Bible.

  • friendly FYI - James Burton never toured with GP - he played on both solo albums though. He WAS however in the first version of Emmylou's Hot Band. Cheers.

  • Early 60s' Kris Harmon is in the audience

  • Sad he he was in that plane

  • Thnx whitetrash88 for the info on the songwriters re the songs Ricky sings in this clip. Re "I catch Myself Crying" .. I did not know the composer was Roger Miller .. but upon very-first hearing I knew straight away it was a very well-structured song, & classy, very pleasing to the ear. I'm therefore not surprised that someone as legendary as Roger Miller wrote it - and it also sounds, at least to me, a touch like a Roy Orbison style of composition.

Great posting, great memories of Ricky here.

  • Very good singer and that Burton guy was excellent guitar player, but this was just too contrived and staged

  • What year was this recorded? I'm thinking early 60's (the Jangly guitar has both a 50's R n' R harmonic sound and a twangy Bakersfield sound). Also, the piano is definitely Slip-note style.

  • The first song is named "I catch myself cring" (Roger Miller), the 2nd is Truck drivin' man (Terry Fell), you can also get the buck owen's amazing version and anothers artist versions too.

  • Il tu cute un peu ehn?

  • Great clip! is that first song "Poor little fool?" Love james Burton´s guitar work here, hot stuff going on!

  • MOi j'ai tous les albums de RICK NELSON et j'aime, c'est extra....

  • vraiment??

  • fan de Ricky France

  • Vicki Tasso sings a great song dedicated to Ricky Nelson called "Dear Ricky"....a must hear for Ricky fans

  • i love him soooooooooooooooooo.....

    thanks for post .............

  • :((((

  • TOP 5*****

  • Hey speaking of the song : "Poor Little Fool", can someone please upload the original TV Show Appearance/Scopitone of "Ricky Nelson" peforming that song ? From 1958 I think

  • Ricky was a big success in Chile (1958-1963).Youtube search for DISCO 45 of Manuel Vargas, and you will see an honoring to the best music of all times.

  • did you see his wife in the audience

  • You are right, front row (table) seat.

  • Great song by Rick! And yes! "Things You Gave Me" is awesome!

  • I saw Ricky at the Santa Clara Fairgrounds about 1981, just like every other outing, he gave a rock sure performance. It was all in the genes, but his best western song is "Lonesome Town".

And I consider "Hello Mary Lou" another western classic. Garden Party is his best

  • Awesome! Only James Burton can make the Tele sound like a steel guitar.

  • Boy does this bring back the memories - thanx :o)

  • They Don't make'em like that anymore...

  • This song still takes my breath away! To be that young, again.

  • Ricky Nelson! The very name gives me goosebumps. I used to listen to my mums music which she loved all rickys songs and which I grew to love too. What a wonderful looking man with eyes like a shut eye doll!

Hey Lhuge3, did you see Ricky's Mary Lou and poor little fool video ?? The one performance he gave in 85 just before he died? Awesome!

  • I want somebody to post Ricky Nelson's "Things You Gave Me."

  • Ricky was a fantastic singer of country songs, that album he put out was outstanding, plus a number of his other songs had the Country feel to them. I had the good luck to see him in person in Toronto, in the early 80's

    barrygio1

  • I am Rick's country music, characteristic feature.Rest less Kidd is honky-tonk Tele, the Greater of barton's to love.

    リックのカントリーミュージック、本領だよね。レストレス・キッドは大好きだよ

    バートンのホンキートンクなテレキャスター、グレイツ

  • j'aime beaucoup.

    Fan français de Ricky Nelson.

  • I noticed on one closeup the camerman scooted over and made room for JB. It's unusual for the star to share the limelight with a sideman. But JB was no ususal sideman, he started the whole chickin' pickin' sensation. He played on some Buck Owens recordings and later with Merle Haggard and even John Denver.

  • fab , great to see this

  • ive watched this video a hundred times & Ricky Nelson is fantastic.i wish it was the fifties again

  • Yes, the 50's... what a great time and great music. That's why I still do a lot of 50's stuff in our country band.

  • Nice to see James B standing next to another pop/rock icon.

  • Here's a question for you Nelson fans. I have the Rick Nelson Bright Lights and Country Music albums. The song Truck Driving Man is on it. But it's not this version. Was this version released?

  • The first song was written by Roger Miller and is on the "love and Kisses" soundtrack album (not available on cd I think) and this clip may be from the movie. What is unique about this clip of "Truck Driving Man" is that, unlike most of the Ricky Nelson show songs (icluding the first song in this video), this song is NOT lip-synced, they are actually playing live. Unfortunately, Ozzie talks through half of Jame Burton's solo.

  • Last time i saw him was this past yr at a guitar festival he started & is doing well.

I agree Ricky is one of the tops & will be but, Elvis...What else needs to be said? He is & will always be the King of Rock-n-ROll.

  • Rick Nelson died in a plane crash December 31, 1985

  • Yes He's still pickng away..>he has a festival here he started bout 3 yrs ago...ive had to sao far..)

  • Why did Ozzie leave? He had to get up early work in the morning? I don't think so. He didn't have a job--at least no reference was ever made to him having one for the entire run of O&H!

  • This is when music was sweet and simple. I listen to many genres of music, but NONE compare to the music of the 50's and 60's. The music was safe and fun to listen to. You can't say that about the music today.

  • So true! I belong to the seventies but I catch myself listening to this type of music and love Ricky altho the love of my live is Elvis!

Ricky looks like a clean cut kid with such doll like eyes that blink so cutely:)

RIP Ricky we still love and appreciate you.

  • Yes, it is!

  • Yes that is the one & only James Burton. He lives here in Shreveport. Proud to say I'm a friend of his.

  • So what's JB up to? Does he play clubs or other venues?

  • If really so cadillacL give him a hug for me and tell him altho I love Ricky Nelson I will always love the KING ELVIS!

Tell Burton, I think he's an awesome guitarist and I truely love watching him now or back then!

RIP Ricky we love you so!

  • does nelson have a cd on country ?

  • I once had an album of his first shot at country music. The feature song was "Bright Lights and Country Music"; now that I look back at it, it was a pretty good album...I'm sure it's probably available in cd.

  • i like nelson

  • Mom and dad look on so proudly!

  • beautiful song

  • AWESOME
