This very stretch of track was our "playground" in the '70s. Bicycles, dirt bikes, walking or whatever....from Homewood to Mt. Savage I know this track better than my front sidewalk. At night, coming down the grade, you could see the wheels glowing like an orange halo one some of the cars from heavy braking. Many GREAT memories here!....Thanks for posting.
I believe someone turn the fuel up on it to give it some more power, it ought to have to have almost 2000hp by now from seeing all that fuel smoke coming out of it.. swweeeeeeetttt!!!!
I know that it's 1750hp but I also said that someone might have turned the fuel pressure up on it giving it more horsepower and putting out all that black smoke!!!!!
Listen to that Leslie! And that engine is running a little rich to say the least! Good job it doesn't have a turbo or there'd be a pretty serious stack fire!
Its a nice loco, but it doesnt belong to the WMSR. I still prefer 734 over any diesel, lol!! But that thing is running a bit dirty for a Geep, it's not an Alco!!! LOL!!!
@golfurguy Souned like "get the hell away from (the tracks)" The part in parenthesses is what I think he said, but it hard to tell because the train was going the other way
Great video ... I heard that #25 is no longer part of the WMSR and is part of another RR now. Does anyone have more info on this? Having just ridden the run from Cumberland to Frostburg round trip I can vouch that the rocking is from a need to work over the tracks. #734 rocks side to side as do the passanger cars. While the GP9s are great I prefer steam power and #734 does the WMSR fans proud.
That horn is 100% perfect and the locomotive is even better! I think the horn blowing was excellent ! I liked all the smoke just like the GP9's I remember growing up on the C & O of Indiana ! Nice job filming the video too.
I gave you 5 stars but I have one gripe that isnt you fault. The engineer on that locomotive really needs some touching up on his horn blowing. There is NO consistancy to it. One of his longs will be longer than the others and his shorts are too short. just my opinion but it is an excellent sounding Leslie horn!
I didnt say anything about being experienced or not ,being experienced would just mean you can handle a good train and know whats going on ( rules...ect..! ).I`ve never rode with him to comment on that. His horn blowing still sucks.Just as proof watch the first run by.He stops blowing before the engine even occupies the crossing. The FRA would kind of frown on that especially carrying passengers.Still a good sounding horn.
actually thats another engineer at the first clip. the rest of the clips is another engineer who works for Amtrak. The first person running is the Chief Mechanical Officer of the WMSR.
Great vid! When did they aquire the GP-9? And does anyone know where it came from because i thought they all got scrapped except the one still in Chessie paint that used to be at the GWRR?
