... and imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. As Dr. Greggs said "often imitated but never duplicated." For the record if you truly know history its understood most of what any band does can be linked to U of M, Notre Dame, or Ohio State. However, what's on this video is clearly Southern's style (no copyright needed). Respect history as a whole not just the part you like. This and many other examples are a testament to the legacy of "The Human Jukebox" and it's greatest leader, Doc.
Come on, are you all serious! Give credit where it's due. These are SU signature drills and songs. Dr. Moffit (Univ. of Houston, Michigan State, Purdue) did create P-I-M but bands doing interchangeable squad movements date back to Dr. Revelli at Univ. Mich. As for HBCU's Dr. Greggs (SU) is also legendary (i.e, the Halftime Score Drill) and ironically he credits Edwin Hampton of St. Augustine with being his influence dating back to the 1960's. Keep in mind Ellis and Greggs were friends.
smh@ this title....yall need to stop yall mess....yall know damn well that this is really the MICHIGAN WAY....bet you wont hear that come out of anybody mouth from SU....salty bastards
Yes, another skeleton that we had in the closet. Cut Mr. E a break. That's what he knew(being that he directed McNair HS before coming to MBC)...it is what it is. If you look before'96 and '99-'03, we didn't look anything like SU. The same cycle SCSU has went through, and now they've come into their own again. As far as being on SU's tip, I was a fan of SU from back in High School...and still a fan. But, when I got to MBC, the only time we talked about SU is when they were on the schedule('00)!
One thing for sure, SU has been the MOST consistent and arguably the BEST at combining Patterns in Motion with high-stepping and the big band brassy selection of soul and R&B drill music. So when this drill and this song (exact arrangment) is played by another band what do you expect? "MBC" didn't get this field show from MSU, or Dr. Moffit, cut it out, it was the 60's mannnnnn! Also, you will not find ANY video of SU's drill designs ANYWHERE on youtube by Michigan...please post if you do
Mr, ellis used these drills when he got there.SU didnt COPYRIGHT the drills...THEY got them from Dr. Bill Moffit of University of Michigan. Get the book...."Patterns in Motion" Dr. Moffit personally went to MBC YEARS and YEARS ago...like in the 60's and showed Prof these drills.....i wish people would learn history before they say ignorant stuff....
@much2cute4u i swear these ppl think SU is the god of all bands...their own band members dont even know the history of SU...sittin up here talkin about what MBC "took", when, with their logic, SU did the exact same dam thing....o let me guess...so since the University of Michigan is a PWC that doesnt count....GFTOH...beisdes, everybody and they mama know how tight Mr. ellis was with the BD over at southern...sound like someone sour from the year 2000...2's...
tapemaster iz the best! props to C. Knighten,......ive never seen jocking like that before,...but then again, jukes know how it went down in the MBC band room Dec. 97 before the Heritage Bowl,......starstruck!......and down

@upt123 Dr. Greggs and Cleophas Johnson (MoBrn) were real good friends. They were running buddies and hung-out whenever SU came to Atlanta.
