I was looking for a video to help me make homemade bread. I'm not even into the video 2 minutes & she says to be sure to measure over your bowl. BIG mistake! You NEVER pour your ingredients over your bowl. This is rule #1 in cooking, especially baking. If you mess up & over pour, the extra ingredients could fall into the bowl. Will have to look for another instructional video for home made bread.

Does anybody at expert village ever read the many comments about how difficult it is to find the relevant follow up videos?..............It is so frustrating and time consuming. Exsasperating even!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting these videos.I did have to search around a bit to find all of the videos to save them in order, but I'm glad that they're all there, because you've included some really good information.I've used this "mix by hand" recipe to make my very first loaf of bread & it came out delicious.:)It was soft, nice crust, well risen & had great flavor, even though I used water instead of milk.I also like to use honey over sugar whenever possible.I'm looking forward to making the rolls! Thanks!
I want to make softer bread, I'm currently using water and the bread is nice but hard on the crust - which is great for dunking in to soup, but I want to make soft bread, is using milk the answer?
I kind of agree with a few of you in that it might be easier if the videos were numbered. However, those of you that "hate expert village"......I don't know what you're problem is! I think Karen does does an excellent job! She explains everything in clear, clean, easy to understand detail, step by step. I don't know what more you could ask for! Her videos have certainly been a help to me and I appreciate her time and effort. Keep up the great work Karen! Job well done!
Thanks for your videos, the bread looks very yummy and I'm gonna try your recipe. I do wish your videos were numbered though, it took a while to find the video I should be watching first.
Could it be that where you're letting it rise isn't warm enough? It takes a warm room to let the yeast do its thing. You could throw it in a warm oven and let it rise there.
Salt kills the yeast (1 teaspoon per loaf). Sweetness - sugar/honey/molasses or whatever your using for feeding the yeast ( try 1 tablespoon per loaf). Dead old yeast? (always proof the yeast for 15 minutes in warm water and a little sweetness). If it doesn't rise buy new yeast. Mix all ingredients really well with half the flour first then slowly add the rest of the flour. Try rising in a tea towel covered sink with 2 inches hot water. Hotter oven, longer bake? Use fresh bread flour.
@talleyho12 Your yeast dies if it's not rising. I suggest dissolving the yeast in 85°F-95°F water make sure all the yeast is dissolved. I'm sure you know how to do this. The key is the warm water. You don't want it hot and you don't want it cold. If it's too doughy add more flour. The consistency of the dough before you put it out to rise should thick. Enough to hold the dough together but also not be rock hard.
so, adding liquid to dry instead of dry to liquid does what exactly?

u don't neeg eggs?

Nope. Most bread recipes don't have eggs, not unless they're sweet breads like banana bread and such.

Maybe you haven't let it rise well.Like keep it aside for at least an hour to rise when you have mixed in the yeast...
