What a bunch of hyped crap. $175,000 i can get teh AUDI RS6 with a sound system and a whole bunch of other cool stuff. With fit and finish even better. Why only $175,00 why not $205,000 since they just make up numbers to sell it. AND I pitted otehr brand speakers against teh less model down and teh cheaper speaker trumped it, so much so the guy SOLD the FOCALS and bought teh Legacys. It's about teh SOUND, not teh BS. BS her in spades. And this music BLOWS
Obviously you are not the target market for these speakers... maybe their Chorus lineup or some harsh Klipsch would be more of your taste. Oh and the Audi's sound system sucks so if your gonna buy that car why not stop and get some Focal car audio gear for it? I have a K2 setup in my car and absolutely love it! best sounding car audio gear Ive ever owned or ever heard bar none.
I understand the time, effort, money involved to make this product, but is it economically wise? or this is just another CONCORDE in the making? The French are known for "The hell with the cost, let's see what we can make" attitude.
Totally off... In my opinion... Loudspeakers at this price point should factor in digital or active crossovers... Passive designs can only go so far so essentially I think they are at diminishing returns.
Digital crossovers and such should not be in the speaker anyway. Anyone that is looking for these are looking to make reproducted sound to be identical to someone playing live in front of them. So this means tube amps, analog to analag as much as possible and no messing with the source sound curves. Signal from HDCD or other high end recording to analog and thats it. All the processors and digital this or that is just there to make up for the lack of clarity and quality from the speakers.
Awesome speaker and incredibly labor intensive to manufacture. I completely understand the price. The only unforgivably low tech aspect of this piece (when compared to the lower-priced Rocport Arrakis/Wilson Alex) is MDF cabinet material! Incomprehensible at this price. I would buy the Diablo/Scala or Maestro though, if I could.
At 573lbs a peice made with MDF how on earth would u get these from France to your house at say 700-1200 lbs a peice made with cherry or oak. Plus the grain in hardwoods would swell and mess up the internal air movements over time so the speakers would not sound as good in say 10 years. Further the price point would go up another 10% or more for hardwoods too.
You mates will need a giant room for this speakers, and a pair of power stages well powered, not to talk about the player or the preamplifier. So the final investment can be 300K $ or more. I love Focal, but 175K $ is a joke. Too much expensive.
These are geared specifically to 2.1 or 2.0 listening... for the audiophile that wants to sit and read a book while listening to a symphony or jazz group and feel like that band or group is playing live for them in their living room whenever one wants to hear them. Movie theater use could be done but thats not the target market with these.
My favorite.

I have a pair of 714V bought in Torino in a fantastic high fi boutique,
Focal si the TOP quality/price you can get, beofre I had BeW same price
700€,bleah!
Now I will pass to the 800 line, the 826 speakers, the top of this line with te 836 for about 1600€,
836 are too much powerful...around 200W you need to have a 60M room with that SPL.
