Realistically Speaking if Pakistan really want to step ahead to compete with modern jets then it is a Long way to go. JF-17 is Fourth generation fighter. while it have an engine that have the problems like trail of smoke. Beside it max speed is 1.6 besides being multi-role. Also it is not stealth as well. So a good step in the direction in making fighter jets but a long way to way to cope with Fifth Gen FIghter jets like f-22s,Sukhoi 30 MKIs, Mirage 2000s, Euro Typhoons and F-35s.

@devilsKrEEd My dear Brother. You know the Radar and Avionics that JF-17 is using are all European. We just assembled it so far. If there will be sanctions then JF-17 will be hampered. It have American Parts as well for example Martin baker Ejection Seat. Its Engine is Soviet made and most of Weaponary is European and American. So Still a long way to go for Self reliance and still we are fully dependant on other countries for our tech. We have the best brain but we dont utilize them.
JF-17 uses chinese radar and own developed avionics and only one missile is western type, the rest are chinese air to air, air to ground and anti ship missile, also it is being configured for brazilian anti radiation missile (to take out enemy radars). Pakistan makes its own drop bombs for the all the aircrafts(both cluster and conventional) and with extra targeting pod it can drop Laser Guided Bombs. PAF is so far satisfied with what this aircraft can do.

Realistically Speaking if Pakistan really want to step ahead to compete with modern jets then it is a Long way to go. JF-17 is Fourth generation fighter. while it have an engine that have the problems like trail of smoke. Beside it max speed is 1.6 besides being multi-role. Also it is not stealth as well. So a good step in the direction in making fighter jets but a long way to way to cope with Fifth Gen FIghter jets like f-22s,Sukhoi 30 MKIs, Mirage 2000s, Euro Typhoons and F-35s.

Let us not forget the idea of JF-17s gained momentum only after western sanctions when the western weapons were rendered very limited. JF-17s will not be affected by western sanctions

@devilsKrEEd My dear Brother. You know the Radar and Avionics that JF-17 is using are all European. We just assembled it so far. If there will be sanctions then JF-17 will be hampered. It have American Parts as well for example Martin baker Ejection Seat. Its Engine is Soviet made and most of Weaponary is European and American. So Still a long way to go for Self reliance and still we are fully dependant on other countries for our tech. We have the best brain but we dont utilize them.

JF-17 uses chinese radar and own developed avionics and only one missile is western type, the rest are chinese air to air, air to ground and anti ship missile, also it is being configured for brazilian anti radiation missile (to take out enemy radars). Pakistan makes its own drop bombs for the all the aircrafts(both cluster and conventional) and with extra targeting pod it can drop Laser Guided Bombs. PAF is so far satisfied with what this aircraft can do.

You know Even Pakistani Engineers were not able to Program this Aircraft and then they have to resort to C++ Programming language to program which is considered to be Highly unstable. Bro come out of Denial. We have a long way to go for Self Relaince and currently we just assemble it and nothing else.

Be realistic. Patriotism should not make us Blind. Let us be realistic. We cannot make an Engine of 1000 cc Car and we have to import it from Japan. How can we make such an Aircraft. Metallurgically Pakistan have not any capacity even to produce simple spare parts.

@ericcburnes yes it make sense. If Pakistan cannot produce spare parts of 1000 Cc engine car and they have to import them from China and Japan then how can they devlop spares of this fighter jet?. We just assemble this aircraft. Its engine is RD_93 which is Russian and Russian dump that, Its radar is italian and its parts are all European or Chinese. So it does make sense a lot as Producing something indigenously and importing from Other countries is not analogous at all.

@MrDesiPak Dont forget jf-17s are a replacement for our obsolete fleet of 3rd gen F-7PGs variant of MIG 21.JF-17s have successfully filled this gap.They are not our prime dog fighters.We are still looking for capable multirole fighters and MCA's.j10-B is a smart choice.

@devilsKrEEd yeah i agree. But India is inducting Sukhoi 30s and Rafaels and in 2015 they are unveiling fifth Generation fighter. So after that where we will be standing?. Pakistan should start its fifth generation program however small the funding may be but it tooks more than 10 years to build one Fighter so if they start now then until 2020 they will be able to have one. Moreover Pakistan should devlop its own fighters rather than watching elsewhere to buy anything. Self reliance is the key
