I have agreed on what you stated. Why stop here for SHTF stuff. What about all the people that are in the other countries that are starving? Why keep feeding them? They will have more babies and need more food......right....?
For the record, several world renowned economists believe that it might be a decade before things improve if things improve at all. Always a good idea to be prepared.. you don't have to own 30 firearms, but a few basic supplies is really all you need. The most important survival tool any single individual possesses is their mind.
I've made it a rule not to have "friends" who just worry about shopping, home decor, celebrities, or any of that garbage, simply because I find them boring. I love talking to people who are awake and are actually using their brain instead of eating what their fed. Willful ignorance drives me nuts, and most of the people I know have been programed to willfully disregard warnings and practical wisdom. So yeah, dump those "friends" because if they were true blue, they'd give you a fair hearing.
I started prepping about 6 months ago. I'm married with a two year old I had 6 years Marine Corp 2 year Iraq with plenty of combat experience. I have not told anyone about it. Have lots of gear food weapons and Ammo and it's JUST FOR us three. I would drop anyone who even remotely got in the way. Maybe harsh but..

If you gave them a care package, most certainly they would believe you have a great abundance of supplies. Don't give any food to anyone who comes begging. It will only mean trouble for you and your loved ones later on. Run them off! They could have saved food just like you did. It's their fault, not yours!
This is why I tell nobody of my preps in real life, I want everybody to think im as screwed as they are, this side of the pond preppers are very rare and added to that we do not have access to guns for protection, i have other methods but would gladly trade them all for even the lamest pistol going, the up side o that is guns and particularly ammo will get used up fast here, I may help some at the time but they would need to persuade me to open my door first and that will not be easy.
Respond to this video... as far as antibiotics. I have given them many many times. i believe that it is over used. I dont see many untoward reactions . its seems like it works pretty well.
@aranelinya you'd be better off going to the doctors with a bad cold and getting some Amoxicillian or Cipro antibiotics and just keep them for later. if you get an infection..none of those things will save you. the mortality rate will go back to the 1870's. Antibiotics,cough syrup,vagisil, even motrin.
I agree, there are so many that want to complain, but not act. I started to tell people close to me I was prepping and that was a mistake. Now they think I have to make sacrifices while they live life as usual. At a certain point, I said I sold everything, for my good, and theirs too. I keep prepping on the d-lo. It would be easy to say every man for himself, but truth is I'm to soft. If someone asked and I could see they were nearly starved to death, I'd probably help if I could. Of course if the SHTF I might not be as soft hearted when in survival mode though. I figure if they didn't prepare with food, they probably don't have guns either. If I did give them a one time care package, I'd make it damn clear not to take advantage of my generosity by coming around again.

Im aware that not anyone could be a farmer overnight or so far. But it's the thought that counts.

As much as we would all like to help someone that is hungry,"YOU CANNOT DO THIS"! If you give someone food and make him promise not to come back, he will tell someone else where you live and you will be confronted by another stranger, maybe this time he'll be armed! When the SHTF you must take care of your own! Otherwise your family will eventually starve!They too could have prepared themselves.While you were scrimping and scraping to save food, these people were laughing at that idea! Too bad!
If you give to them they will come back a thousand times or not want to leave at all. Being a person with limited funds, providing for myself is number one. But that's not saying that if I know that there is a hungry mother and her children or some senior citizens, with no way to provide for themselves, that some deer meat won't mysteriously appear on their doorstep in the middle of the night. But they surely won't know where it came from!!
Good review, and I agree. Wasn't there some Bible story about so and so warning people against something or other and when it came true they all went to him for help, but it was too late? Either way, in Disney's 1934 "The Grasshopper and the Ants" - the grasshopper sang "Oh the world owes me a livin!" When the winter came and he was stuck, he was lucky the ants took him in. I can't say I'll be very "ant-like" when the SHTF. Take care.
I've tried my gun/shooting range by becoming a member, but get the cold shoulder in a predominately white shop. I've tried shooting range in a more mixed area, yet they seem to be more about the gun lifestyle then a SHTF mind set. I tend to talk to friends and family about What if senerios, but am looked at like a nut! LOL If anyone knows of any communities in the Philadelphia area, please feel free to let me know. I only view gun/survival shows on TV, and have been trying to buy and collect things with SHTF value! I have even purchased and learned how to use firearms.
However, I feel lost in a country that does not (not all) think this way. I am Noah trying to get others to see something that they think will never happen. But, I know that they will be the first looking for a hand out. I agree that a group of like minded people will increase survival. But where do I begin to find and befriend them?
I myself came from a young/entitled mind set which caused me to put more focus and value in fashion and Ent. That mind set made me not care about "real" issues going on in the world, and think that it will never happen here. The most I needed to worry about was racism being Puerto Rican.

I agree with you 100%. One thing I would like to add though, is that after STHF and there is no one in charge to speak of. Like you said, "The future belongs to the ones that prepare for it today". I train with the military, and with that said, teamwork is essential. Because sooner or later the looters and bad guys, will team up and raid people one by one. If good people are working as a team, and not only watching out for eachother, but helping make a community farm, defense, ect...
If it becomes _anything_ like the countryside in the former yugoslav republics, as most people seem to agree on, you'll need a bunch of friends to defend _any_ farm or territory against marauding bands of mercenaries or any group that does not respect the life and value of other human beings. create groups of 20 + or more would be my best guess. 20 + trained friends with intimate knowledge of the local terrain and cover and each others positions and movements would be the best.

It is a dilema....those of us who prepare obviously care enough to inform ourselves on the events of the world and are the type of people that want to help others....however, from life experience I've found that when you, yourself, needs help from others, you rarely receive it.I personally have decided to try and meet likeminded people who ARE making preparations and try to build relationships built on mutual benefits. ultimately we will all have to help eachother to beat this power.
Actually, I wouldn't really say let go of the wrong people. I don't know the other guy's situation, but I would only tell someone once, and I would be talking about the fed devaluing the dollar (unless I knew I could get away with it.) Instead I would be saying that DHS recommends keeping 3 days of supplies, and then just progressing from there, or if these people don't start prepping, then just drop the subject.

You might pass up someone on the street or in the woods that have skills like being a doctor or nurse maybe a lab tech that knows how to make or do something you may need or find useful. Your bob will not last to long. Ignoring or threatening someone might make trouble down the road for you.

Interesting question with probably no universal answer. Regardless what you do, whenever someone approaches you in a SHTF situation you are encountering risk. When the ask for something, that risk increases. I think employing a gray man aspect might be best -- tell them you've been eating weeds and throwing rocks at squirrels. Offer to show them a few weeds. Again, in a true SHTF situation, exceptions to the rule will be the only rule.
Good video. Can you review the Katadyn Survivor 35 or 06, makes 35gal/day and 6gal/day respectively. How does it work? Is there a DIY option? Fresh water source isn't an option sometimes near the ocean. A distiller takes too long.
During my search I came across Katadyn's reverse osmosis desalinator. It claims to make fresh water out of sea water OR any water! Also removes dissolved chemicals, nerve agents, viruses, bacteria etc.

I have discussed preparing with just a couple of people and I think if you tell your family that you are concerned and what they can do for themselves ONCE, and they don't listen or think you're nuts, then drop it. I got 72-hour kits plus a box of MREs and water for each of my children and asked that they keep it in their cars. Enough for them to get to me or their father's house. This is the extent of "pushing" it onto others. I'm not responsible for anyone but me and my children.

What makes me SICK is the fact that even MY OWN FAMILY refuses to believe what is coming! I get, you're crazy or "I don't want to hear all this bad news" or well, we know you will take us in if things really do fall apart wont you? id like to weigh in. I cant really hear the audio atm, but to the original question. Interfacing with your local community is CRITICAL, to these types of situations. If SHTF, you cant be a one man army no matter how many bullets you have. If you shoot someone then everyone will know that you have good to protect. So know your neighbors! Especially in a urban situation. Also remember that if your neighbors could betray you by broadcasting that you have supplies! So make friends!

I'm worried that if you give them this "one time only" bag, after they get hungary, will they respect their agreement and not return? If they are desperate, they will return and probably tell others and might try to steal what you have. Promises might mean nothing when your children are starving.

People need to take care of themselves and their family. Most we can do is warn people of the coming collapse. So far the bailouts keep postponing the inevitable. Some people are such idiots they they live hand to mouth. Sadly these are the people that will probably starve during the collapse. Prepare store food, supplies, silver coins. Well said DEMCAD, Im on a modest income, but with every trip to the store, I buy 'extras' here and there. An extra gallon of water, extra canned goods, extra ammunition (one box here and there) consumables etc. I dont go overboard, one or two 'extras' here and there. Better to have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it. Semper Paratus!
I'd say put up a front like your starving like everyone else and not give a damn thing out to anyone. If you do take people in they should be really really trusted and be able to contribute to the defense of the stronghold.
Try to make it on your own, you won't. Best hope is to align with a community of allies. A family alone is toast. Not a guess, it's empirical, hordes will take what you have. Those gangs comprised of opportunists with a random plan based on reaction to the situation which is grab what they can by force will run into groups they will try to exploit who are prepared and allied, when all of the easy pickens has been gone through (meaning you taking care of yourself) and they will be destroyed too.
I know the feeling. I feel like I am in a glass cage and yelling at everyone but they can't hear me. I feel like I am reaching my hand out to everyone but they refuse to take it. It is lonely when you are the only one in your inner circle that sees what is going on. I keep telling my dad to prepare with at least 6 months worth of food and water, but he keeps brushing me off. The problem is that you can't brush off your family when things get tough!

Have talked to friends, co-workers, etc. and others I know concerning coming economic crisis. Some are just uninformed, some know things are going to get really bad. Some are preparing, most not preparing. Most important 4 things in this order ;1- keep your head 2- build up stores of various supplies 3- form a group of trusted individuals (to share hard to get items and for security) 4-have a bug out plan.
I just recently started my food prep!, and have warned my family and my wife's family.. i calculated how much food it would take , to feed a family of three for a year, and i'm right on the money,, so i told everybody please don't come to my house or bug out location when thing's start to go wrong... they have been warned. so tough luck ,

We handled it this way among friends: If I warned them and they do nothing they'll be treated like a stranger. If they prepare & say their house burns down, then my stuff is their stuff.
After the care pak runs out they will be back. Try to tell your your family if they will listen, but other than that be careful who you tell what you have. If the shtf, people change! They will be desperate. And they will want what you have if they know it's there. You will be forced to make choices, with neighbors who have children. It could get bad. Lets hope it never comes to that. Hopefully the extra foods will just help if there are shortages. Some increased crime,and shortages more likely

It's easy to shrug it off while it doesn't effect you yet. Don't wait until an emergency when my paneling system may be out of stock.
Yes, it's definitely noble to give food and supplies in a time of need. But if you do so from your home and/or the person/people know where you live, then they may come back for more. And if they're desperate, who knows how bad the situation could get. If you do decide to give food and supplies, make sure it's all already divided into small stacks and NEVER show people you're whole stash. Even if the person you're helping is nice and grateful, word might get out that you have a ton of food.

Hey Demcad you don't need to spend a great deal of money on weapons and ammo. Check out some of the cheaper Milsurps ie the Mosin Nagant 91/30. Cheap rifle and cheap ammo.

Not talking about Haiti but when my friends learn about my stores and say "Im coming here." I respond by handing them a list - a very long list- of items they are to bring with them. I explain they will be welcomed if they bring everything on the list otherwise they should stay away

I have neighbors that i will unite with and friends welcome to join me, should the SHTF BUT some have said "oh if the SHTF im coming to your house". I replied with "You will be met by my kids with shotties in the windows, theyll need a lil practice ;)

I've made it a rule not to have "friends" who just worry about shopping, home decor, celebrities, or any of that garbage, simply because I find them boring. I love talking to people who are awake and are actually using their brain instead of eating what their fed. Willful ignorance drives me nuts, and most of the people I know have been programed to willfully disregard warnings and practical wisdom. So yeah, dump those "friends" because if they were true blue, they'd give you a fair hearing.

If you gave them a care package, most certainly they would believe you have a great abundance of supplies. Don't give any food to anyone who comes begging. This is why I tell nobody of my preps in real life, I want everybody to think im as screwed as they are, this side of the pond preppers are very rare and added to that we do not have access to guns for protection, i have other methods but would gladly trade them all for even the lamest pistol going, the up side o that is guns and particularly ammo will get used up fast here, I may help some at the time but they would need to persuade me to open my door first and that will not be easy.

It would be easy to say every man for himself, but truth is I'm to soft. If someone asked and I could see they were nearly starved to death, I'd probably help if I could. Of course if the SHTF I might not be as soft hearted when in survival mode though. I figure if they didn't prepare with food, they probably don't have guns either. If I did give them a one time care package, I'd make it damn clear not to take advantage of my generosity by coming around again.

If you give to them they will come back a thousand times or not want to leave at all. Being a person with limited funds, providing for myself is number one. But that's not saying that if I know that there is a hungry mother and her children or some senior citizens, with no way to provide for themselves, that some deer meat won't mysteriously appear on their doorstep in the middle of the night. But they surely won't know where it came from!!

Good review, and I agree. Wasn't there some Bible story about so and so warning people against something or other and when it came true they all went to him for help, but it was too late? Either way, in Disney's 1934 "The Grasshopper and the Ants" - the grasshopper sang "Oh the world owes me a livin!" When the winter came and he was stuck, he was lucky the ants took him in. I can't say I'll be very "ant-like" when the SHTF. Take care.

I've tried my gun/shooting range by becoming a member, but get the cold shoulder in a predominately white shop. I've tried shooting range in a more mixed area, yet they seem to be more about the gun lifestyle then a SHTF mind set. I tend to talk to friends and family about What if senerios, but am looked at like a nut! LOL If anyone knows of any communities in the Philadelphia area, please feel free to let me know. I only view gun/survival shows on TV, and have been trying to buy and collect things with SHTF value! I have even purchased and learned how to use firearms.
However, I feel lost in a country that does not (not all) think this way. I am Noah trying to get others to see something that they think will never happen. But, I know that they will be the first looking for a hand out. I agree that a group of like minded people will increase survival. But where do I begin to find and befriend them?

I myself came from a young/entitled mind set which caused me to put more focus and value in fashion and Ent. That mind set made me not care about "real" issues going on in the world, and think that it will never happen here. The most I needed to worry about was racism being Puerto Rican.
This all changed once I had my first child! As I study history and look at our good US of A, I fear my kids will not grow up with the same opportunities I had. It is my sole responsibility to protect my family

I agree with you 100%. One thing I would like to add though, is that after STHF and there is no one in charge to speak of. Like you said, "The future belongs to the ones that prepare for it today". I train with the military, and with that said, teamwork is essential. Because sooner or later the looters and bad guys, will team up and raid people one by one. If good people are working as a team, and not only watching out for eachother, but helping make a community farm, defense, ect...

If it becomes _anything_ like the countryside in the former yugoslav republics, as most people seem to agree on, you'll need a bunch of friends to defend _any_ farm or territory against marauding bands of mercenaries or any group that does not respect the life and value of other human beings. create groups of 20 + or more would be my best guess. 20 + trained friends with intimate knowledge of the local terrain and cover and each others positions and movements would be the best.

It is a dilema....those of us who prepare obviously care enough to inform ourselves on the events of the world and are the type of people that want to help others....however, from life experience I've found that when you, yourself, needs help from others, you rarely receive it.I personally have decided to try and meet likeminded people who ARE making preparations and try to build relationships built on mutual benefits. ultimately we will all have to help eachother to beat this power.

Actually, I wouldn't really say let go of the wrong people. I don't know the other guy's situation, but I would only tell someone once, and I would be talking about the fed devaluing the dollar (unless I knew I could get away with it.) Instead I would be saying that DHS recommends keeping 3 days of supplies, and then just progressing from there, or if these people don't start prepping, then just drop the subject.

Interesting question with probably no universal answer. Regardless what you do, whenever someone approaches you in a SHTF situation you are encountering risk. When the ask for something, that risk increases. I think employing a gray man aspect might be best -- tell them you've been eating weeds and throwing rocks at squirrels. Offer to show them a few weeds. Again, in a true SHTF situation, exceptions to the rule will be the only rule.

Good video. Can you review the Katadyn Survivor 35 or 06, makes 35gal/day and 6gal/day respectively. How does it work? Is there a DIY option? Fresh water source isn't an option sometimes near the ocean. A distiller takes too long.

I have discussed preparing with just a couple of people and I think if you tell your family that you are concerned and what they can do for themselves ONCE, and they don't listen or think you're nuts, then drop it. I got 72-hour kits plus a box of MREs and water for each of my children and asked that they keep it in their cars. Enough for them to get to me or their father's house. This is the extent of "pushing" it onto others. I'm not responsible for anyone but me and my children.

id like to weigh in. I cant really hear the audio atm, but to the original question. Interfacing with your local community is CRITICAL, to these types of situations. If SHTF, you cant be a one man army no matter how many bullets you have. If you shoot someone then everyone will know that you have good to protect. So know your neighbors! Especially in a urban situation. Also remember that if your neighbors could betray you by broadcasting that you have supplies! So make friends!

Hi Reg,
I've been trying to spread the word, its falling on many deaf ears. So I'm going to carry on and do my thing. I cannot afford to give out my supplies. I know a bunch of people that make good money..they could stock up for years in one or two months.
My extended family included. My mom and dad could come, but no siblings. Sorry we are not that close.
The neighbors will have to go see the FEMA truck, if it ever comes out here to BFE where I am.

Well said DEMCAD, Im on a modest income, but with every trip to the store, I buy 'extras' here and there. An extra gallon of water, extra canned goods, extra ammunition (one box here and there) consumables etc. I dont go overboard, one or two 'extras' here and there. Better to have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it. Semper Paratus!

I'd say put up a front like your starving like everyone else and not give a damn thing out to anyone. If you do take people in they should be really really trusted and be able to contribute to the defense of the stronghold.

Try to make it on your own, you won't. Best hope is to align with a community of allies. A family alone is toast. Not a guess, it's empirical, hordes will take what you have. Those gangs comprised of opportunists with a random plan based on reaction to the situation which is grab what they can by force will run into groups they will try to exploit who are prepared and allied, when all of the easy pickens has been gone through (meaning you taking care of yourself) and they will be destroyed too.

I know the feeling. I feel like I am in a glass cage and yelling at everyone but they can't hear me. I feel like I am reaching my hand out to everyone but they refuse to take it. It is lonely when you are the only one in your inner circle that sees what is going on. I keep telling my dad to prepare with at least 6 months worth of food and water, but he keeps brushing me off. The problem is that you can't brush off your family when things get tough!

Have talked to friends, co-workers, etc. and others I know concerning coming economic crisis. Some are just uninformed, some know things are going to get really bad. Some are preparing, most not preparing. Most important 4 things in this order ;1- keep your head 2- build up stores of various supplies 3- form a group of trusted individuals (to share hard to get items and for security) 4-have a bug out plan.

I just recently started my food prep!, and have warned my family and my wife's family.. i calculated how much food it would take , to feed a family of three for a year, and i'm right on the money,, so i told everybody please don't come to my house or bug out location when thing's start to go wrong... they have been warned. so tough luck ,

@DEMCAD - You are right on point posting this video. I think there are alot of us that are awake to what is coming and the natural reaction is to warn those we care about. However, many of them think we are going overboard and that our views are over the top. I have the same concerns about those I have warned for a couple of yrs and they blew me off. I'M SORRY...I WILL NOT sacrifice the well being of my children in order to help them when the SHTF!!! Sadly,they should have prepared as I did

interesting timing for this topic with the haitian crisis, and people there roaming the streets with machetes to secure some water or food for themselves & people they care about. nobody seems to blame them for this, either. they did PREPARE by hanging onto their weapon!

Spreading info is helping others, if they choose not to listen that's not really anyones problem but theirs. All of my anti- gun friends say if the SHTF happens they are coming to my house. That's not gonna happen

We handled it this way among friends: If I warned them and they do nothing they'll be treated like a stranger. If they prepare & say their house burns down, then my stuff is their stuff.

After the care pak runs out they will be back. Try to tell your your family if they will listen, but other than that be careful who you tell what you have. If the shtf, people change! They will be desperate. And they will want what you have if they know it's there. You will be forced to make choices, with neighbors who have children. It could get bad. Lets hope it never comes to that. Hopefully the extra foods will just help if there are shortages. Some increased crime,and shortages more likely

If you don't soundproof your home like I have warned you, you have only yourself to blame when the mexico's come to your neighborhood and keep you awake with stanklish music every day night and morning.
It's easy to shrug it off while it doesn't effect you yet. Don't wait until an emergency when my paneling system may be out of stock.

Yes, it's definitely noble to give food and supplies in a time of need. But if you do so from your home and/or the person/people know where you live, then they may come back for more. And if they're desperate, who knows how bad the situation could get. If you do decide to give food and supplies, make sure it's all already divided into small stacks and NEVER show people you're whole stash. Even if the person you're helping is nice and grateful, word might get out that you have a ton of food.

Hey Demcad you don't need to spend a great deal of money on weapons and ammo. Check out some of the cheaper Milsurps ie the Mosin Nagant 91/30. Cheap rifle and cheap ammo.

Not talking about Haiti but when my friends learn about my stores and say "Im coming here." I respond by handing them a list - a very long list- of items they are to bring with them. I explain they will be welcomed if they bring everything on the list otherwise they should stay away
