  • Thanks for posting such a cool retro video. The Nuge Always rocked. His band did too. What a treat. Who gives a shit about his political leanings...Can any of you doubters and left wing nay-sayers rock like that? I doubt it. Spend less time criticizing and more time rockin'.

  • Ted ROX! He was anti-drugs and alcohol all his life--so to you who think he was high on coke--get a clue. The guy was high on making millions of dollars and having audiences totally get into his jams! I also love how he's full blown NRA and all about hunting and KILLIN DEFENSELESS ANIMALS! YEAH! And to all you liberal, left wing pu$ $ies out there...Go back to your Bee Gees and huggin' TREES!

  • @troutslayer52101 I GUESS YOUR COOL WITH MARRYING AN UNDERRAGED GIRL TOO,YOU RIGHT WING RETARD?

  • he's a douche

  • Wow a nice song about stalking and wife beating. Stay classy Ted.

  • Like the musak but he's an asshole.

  • Love the music, sad to say I am a

woman but the guitar on this song is the best.

  • They n are so jacked up, when Ted says he didnt drink I believe him.

He was so jacked on coca he couldnt see

  • Derek St. Holmes looks just like the geezer from Spinal Tap. I was expecting Stonehenge to drop down at anytime

  • @nikh158 The reason Derek St. Holmes looks so weird is because that's not him, it's Charlie Huhn playin' & sangin' with Ted. Derek had already left the band and Charlie came in for the Weekend Warriors album.

  • The so-called rock and metal guitar heroes today should take notes. Nugent takes them to school.

  • what a badass and ominous guitar solo. this song just sounds like gettin into trouble.

  • this is early Derek St.Holmes and Ted I was there in 1979

  • @Syzygy60 No, Charlie Huhn. Derek was gone by this point, he came back a few years later for the "Nugent" album & tour.

  • BAdassss!!!!!

  • MS: Midnight Special! The birth of the music video! :)

  • God bless you Ted.

  • Ciao Paisà.....comme stai....tutto okk,

    Saluti da Caserta

  • very well spoken

  • The NUGE!! the best Gibson-Birdland player of all time..

  • This song's awesome. The guy who wrote and performed it is an asshole. It happens.

  • @InsertName125 Song is AWESOME , your not , Ted's AWESOME !

  • @3RWE3 My not what? Interesting use of punctuation.

  • @InsertName125 Only for the intelligent to understand . You on the otherhand , , , cant seem to get it it it . . .See only an intelligent person would understand that an AWESOME song like " Stranglehold " , , , can only be AWESOME , , , because of its written, performed and fuck you douchebag insertname, , , by the Nuge, , , you assh*le

  • @3RWE3 Are you intentionally trying to appear as stupid as possible ? ? ? ?

You're (or is it "yor") doing an "AWESOME" job ! ! !

  • @InsertName125 You read it .

  • @3RWE3 You're lonely, aren't you? Is that sad little period hanging out there in the middle of nowhere some kind of symbol of how you feel about yourself? What's the matter? Do you need uncle Ted to give you a hug?

  • @InsertName125 Feeling still hurt are they ? So rude from a guy that uses douche's for mouthwash . Seriously are the douche's used already ? , are they from your family ?, or do you pick them up on the sidewalk at one of your occupy wall st. " fantasies " ? Thanks for the fun but no fun anymore your boring !

  • @3RWE3 So, you're going to give up, huh? Great! Now I can keep insulting you! Thanks for the entertainment penis envy!

  • So glad Uncle Teddy and Derek St. Holmes got back together. Dereks voice on this song is perfect. I saw Uncle Teddy over the summer and the show was fantastic!

  • It is a sad state of affairs when people can no longer just enjoy an electrifying performer in his prime without bringing their own political sentiments to bear.....Don't talk/Just rock

  • Best rock song ever! No exceptions! Fuck yeah!

  • I love U Ted!

  • @djk28161 As a true fan of the Nuge, I would certaily advise it.

  • motor city mad man whent beyond

  • How many poor people have to be terrorized and murdered so that the liberals can smoke some pot.

  • @hoggzski Hopefully as many as possible. Everybody knows if you wanna get high, somebody gotta die. That's the #1 rule, us liberals are bloodthirsty. In fact, we don't even feel comfortable smoking unless we know for sure that a whole family was slaughtered while farming this shit.

  • @UncleSlam81 i like to think 4 children die everytime i smoke

  • Just a warning 1983REDROCKSU2,if you let Brother TED in your head it"s terminal....been that way for about 35 years.

  • Listen to that , can you hear it? Its DISTORTION melting your face off!!!!!

  • The lead singer for this song is Derek St. Holmes. He was with the band until 1979, and then back again in the mid nineties.

  • @CulinaryGeniusdotNet Actually it's Charlie Huhn on vocals,St Holmes left in 78 after cal jam 2 which was his last show along with Rob De La Grange.

  • @RJONES1754 Charlie sings for Foghat now and is still awesome!

  • =O SPEACHLESS..just sayin..

  • =O. SPEACHLESS......jut sayin...

  • @garminpink He played at Jeppesen Stadium at U of H in '77. I was there...

  • God

  • Always wondered what was up with that stupid tail. He still wears it and it looks ridiculous.

  • His name is Dave Amato and he plays guitar for REO now

  • the 1000x better and older MTV

  • its HOLY MUSIC

  • I think that is Snake Plissken singing lead! ;-p

  • wow... these guys rock

  • @childofthe70s2 Thank you, hawkins. Very well said:)

  • Look at some of your "idols" when they we young. any that came out of the seventies probably looked similar. it was the times..and he is angrey - angry at the govt for taking away your freedoms. something you should be angry about also.

  • @hawkins561 ok what freedoms did the government take away from you genius?

  • Great Bass solo.

  • @FrankSmith1420 I guess he's supposed to have short hair, and be wearing a $1000 suit, looking like a Wall Street maggot? Oh wait....then he'd be a Democrat.

  • They did some great stuff, shame Ted Nugent evolved into such an uncool angry prick, he needs to have a drink, smoke a joint and mellow out.

  • @jimphotocock I was at O Porto in Amsterdam three years ago. The bar tender said Ted and his road Manager cam in. He said Ted was an angry old, sober man.

  • @alansells Maybe Ted should drink a beer and burn a bowl???

  • Ted your the cats meow! You look so cool and sexy! Hes the man , boy oh boy is he the man, when he was young he was beautiful.

  • too crisp trebles mobbin

  • Truth is, Derek was a better singer and as good a lead guitar player as Ted. Showmanship was the difference why he didn't make it on is own.

  • @Kirkola Well its probably true that Ted's singers have better range and smoothness etc etc. but just as good at playing guitar? Uhhh no... not even close.

  • @jay5775 I can only assume you never saw Derek solo on St. Paradise and compare like I did. Technically, may be even better than Ted...but wouldn't wear a Tarzan outfit on stage.

  • @jay5775 Either way Derek has one hell of a voice.

  • i love how if you wanna watch nugent rock out u gotta read comment from soros' minions who live in their mamas basement eating hotpockets spreading hate because they have not other options in life. And please stop ejaculating everytime you hear pelosi reid or obama speak you gullable ppl. Pop your mamas titty out of you mouth a get a job.

  • @luckynlove13 Well said, couldn't have said it any better.

  • @luckynlove13 shut up Commie u suck my balls...did I studder

  • @luckynlove13 no one is making you read the comments

  • @luckynlove13

Correction. Don't you mean the government tit ?!

  • Chuck Norris is a Republican dumbass, just like Ted, and Dave Mustain

  • he must be chucks son lmao

  • yeah big business bad ,sitting on your ass good! Hey dave, time to get a job, move out off mommys basemant and stop whinnig.

  • no way man ted's way cooler than chuck norris

  • ted's fucking awesome

  • Ozzie and Nuge!

  • This guy was way ahead of his time! Look at how all of the bands looked back in the 80's. This guy has been playing since the 60's!

  • @LoganUpABongHit The Amboy Dukes..right? God..that brought back a memory.

  • Yep, '79 is correct year. I too waited all week to watch Ted host this Midnight Special. Charlie Huhn is singing, he joined Ted to perform on the Weekend Warriors album and supporting tour, and has been with Foghat since Lonesome Dave died in '00. "Bay bay!" Ugh.

  • Now THIS is Rock and Roll!!! Long Live Ted and the 2nd amendment!!!!

    ALL Libearals are pussys!

  • @Swineswallow1 And all conservatives are self righteous assholes. Grow up..both parties have been corrupted by big business for a long time now. wake up...

  • This was back before we realised Nugent was just a tool for the Bush's and the money people. Nugent sucks.

  • @AwesomeBeatles Still Blaming Bush huh? Give Pelosi a kiss for me...

  • @tednugentlives we had a budget surplus when bill clinton was in office.bush comes in with massive tax breaks for the rich and it's been down hill since.turn off faux news douchbag!

  • @sabbathrulz99 amen to that..I lived very well un Clinton..I understand bush one term but these ppl voted him in again and went to hell

  • @sabbathrulz99

Budget surplus because of Newt Gingrich and the republican congress that took control in 1995. Clinton didn't have a surplus until then. Know the facts... Bush lowered taxes for EVERYONE that paid taxes and the rich still paid a higher share... The economy tanked after Pelosi and the dems took control of congress in 2007....

  • @bman546 thank you for tellin' it like it is my friend. Good post.

  • @AwesomeBeatles Yep you are a libturd moron, thats for sure.

  • @AwesomeBeatles ESAD

  • wow does this suck or what !

  • I remember this.. I was 13 and waited all week to see this show!!

  • The first guy singing looks like Ozzy back then

  • This singer did a great job, but Derek just had better tone and more feeling!

  • @TNMinuteMan I'm pretty sure this is Derek ... ?

  • @spiralcity Nah, Derek left in '78 directly after the Cal Jam II concert. Is the year on the video wrong?

  • @spiralcity Yeah this guy's name is Charlie Huhn.

  • Charlie Huhn

  • One of the BEST songs! my first concert

  • esos solos son orgasmicos

  • MidSpec was awesome........MTV,VH1..ppft, not even close

  • i remember seeing this when it aired.I was visiting family in fruitport michingan. i was 12

  • This was November of 1978. Just FYI. But love this song!

  • why doesnt he ever sing this song?

  • WICKED!!!!!

  • My first concert - Uncle Ted! My ears rang for THREE days after the show. One heckuva guitar player.

  • he must be chuck norris' son.

  • @modinformer no, chuck norris is his son

  • @modinformer When you know, Ted's ideas, Chuck Norris is a démocrat ! may be an anarchist ! ! !

  • @modinformer with that chest?...hum...nephew... and I'm being generous.

  • the tempo on his S/T LP makes this song a bit more powerful, but this is still certainly my favorite Nugent song. Massive tone.

  • yeahhh ,get the rope yeehaaa, too many reds, peds,n the ilk,God invented rope for a reason

  • NOBODY kicks ass lick Ted Nugent !!!

  • Rhythm guitarist totaly looks like Ozzy in 82's

  • John Sauter on Bass from Decatur illinois gimmie 5! Best bass player nugent has ever had play with him..

  • singer sucks

  • @chevypower406 the singer is awsome you fucking idiot

  • great fuckin vocals too

  • first time i saw ted was back around 80 at the notre dame acc. my ears rang for 3 days after that it was so loud! newspaper even had a write up about how loud it was averaging about 125 decibals all night! kick ass!

  • saw uncle ted in fredericksburg , va this past summer and he did all the singin. It was kick ass....

  • Derek St. Holmes is probably the best singer Nugent ever had - even better than Rusty Day.

  • @rodentcafeteria

    What about Meat Loaf?

  • @mistamuthafuka Meatloaf is great, but as far as Nugent's work within his "band," St. Holmes was his best vocalist.

  • (2/2) '“What did young Shawn play? “Just wild stuff” -- he stretched apart and wiggled the fingers of his left hand.” -Excerpt from Musician Magazine 1992, on the great Shawn Lane-

  • (1/2) “That's Ted Nugent. And Ted, he's this guitarslinger, a jammer, and likes to blow people away. This was his hometown, Detroit, and he got up -- he was just gonna blow me away, you know, he started whatever licks he always played” -- Shawn started smiling – “and I was this little kid (16 years old), and I just . . . just greased him, man.” Laughter. In his hometown. And then afterwards I was kinda like, 'Hey, Ted,' and he was, 'Rrr, get away!

  • I thought that the 2nd solo in the song was just Ted with an Octavizer, but then my bass teacher told me it was a bass solo, and I had to come back and check the video, and he was right.

  • @Natejitsu

Thats john Sauter Decatur Illinois...he came up with stranglehold...fitting he should get a lead...

  • uncle ted . the best gutairest ever.

  • Too bad they don't make a stereo that can play this song loud enough

  • Good ole' pre-political Ted.

  • the thing i love about ted is how he handles his byrdland, a visually large guitar, so well, and can play so well with so many simple riffs. He outstages msot of those he plays with, especially that aerosmith performance of milk cow blues and the video where he does a version of chuck berry's "Carol".

Charlie is ok, but derek st. holmes was so much better - the solo he pulls off on wang dang on the live at hammersmith track is really something!

  • Derek's Cords are IMPECCABLE!

  • Just simple kick in the butt Rock-n-Roll LUV IT just pure awesome.

  • here is uncle ted testing the singer by super speeding up the song. the singer passes the test and gets a years supply of buffalo and venizon!

  • Charlie Huhn could give Ted a run for the money. Same with Derek St Holmes.

Ted's really a much better player now.

  • His last original solo...or musical thought for that matter

  • @guajinho thank you ! no one pays homeage to rory gallagher these days glad to see someone out there knows good music

  • Holy shit! thats Charlie Huhn Singing The Lead! He's with Foghat Now. Seen them both at Rib Amreica In Indy This year 2010. They still can rock!

  • Holly shit! Thats Charlie Hughes Singing the lead! He's with Foghat Now!

  • 2 people are dur dur durs

  • Hell yeah - back before Ted was a crotchety pissed off neo-con bastard he was a serious muthafucka...a true rock 'n roll madman \,,/

  • sounds like its coming out of a shitty old skool mono amfm radio! LOL!

  • God`s gift to AMERICA! Mr Ted Nugent.........Run for Pres Uncle Ted!

  • Gracias el posto. I miss this era of Ted. Back then, he didn't talk nearly as much so when he spoke, you didn't want to miss a single word, especially the rapid fire banter between songs. Of course, we now realize it wasn't political or environmental, it was just about pussy. He seemed more like a wild animal than the caricature he's become. Nothing seemed formulaic back then, whether it was or not.

  • Howlin' for the Wolfman! Flashback to the Good old days of Rock and Roll!

  • this is a cool vid! always thought this was a great tune.nice to see it.very bass driven, even a bass solo and dual leads. and st.holmes' singing=top notch.

  • @gernblensten That ain't Derek St. Holmes. Charlie Huhn if my memory serves.

Still, Ted was a force to be reckoned with from 74 to 80. Definitely at the top of his game.

  • @gernblensten

John Sauter on Bass..He invented Stranglehold!

  • who else is playing with ted here?

  • @chiefbigbeef52 You can see the main two here doing a NAMM performance from just a few months ago.

  • Saw Derek St Holmes & Ted several times including the live LP version of Stranglehold"@ Springfield MA in (77?). A drunk, pretty young lady came up the aisle, sat in my lap, and asked me what I thought about 'sexuality'. It was a GREAT night all around!

  • Thats a gnarly squeal at 4:44....sounds like a damn eagle call

  • what the hell was he doing to get that incredible sustain at 2:04?????!?!?!?!

  • no one like Ted.

  • Hammer hammer hammer, thats fantastic, rock me. difficult to find "trips" that this music gave me, today. Thank you for upload.

  • THE NUG AND HENDRIX BEST OF ALL TIME

  • Always liked his music!! Great guitar work :)

He also has more nicknames than any other person i've ever heard of... please help me out here...

Ten fingers of Doom, Motor City Madman, Terrible Ted, The Nuge, The Great Gonzo... help me out with more :)

  • @alexrogan1 well, what about Sweaty Teddy and Uncle Ted.

  • That's right! You better get out of the way of the Motor City Mad Man, the Detroit Rocker, the One and only Terrible Ted Nugent!
