  • A big big like...so down to earth, practical...covering so many areas (Modes,Arpeggios) a great tutorial overall. Keep on educating us (Bass Players). Thanks :-)

  • wish i could sound the way he said that i wouldn't want to do.

  • 5 Metal fans disliked this video, as it involved more than a pick, and a goth girlfriend.

  • @jlebesis You are clearly one of the more ignorant people about other genres of music. Maybe you should educate yourself about metal some more because most metal that I listen to consists of musicians who are jazz educated. Yeah sure, if you consider Avenged Sevenfold metal then you might be right, but most don't consider that metal anyways. Please broaden your musical tastes a bit and don't be so ignorant. I'm not even going to try to understand why you included the word "goth" with metal...

  • @CillaBlack5 Lol, I agree, it was a black and white humourous statement, I apologise for that ;) I am a professional musician, so it wasn't meant in poor taste. I'd be a hyprocrite hanging it on ANY style of music as it all had an influence on me as a muso. With respect, please be careful what conclusions you jump to. I made one statement, and you wrote me a whole paragraph about my lack of musical taste lol Glad you asked about me first . haha. All good mate, no harm intended.

  • @jlebesis well you know how it goes on youtube. People freak out about the smallest shit. Clearly i did there, but it would be rather annoying if you were actually serious. Just out of curiosity, are you a studio musician, or do you do something else?

  • Musical expression will always be personal preferences...not one way is better than another. This is the most cocky-ass statement a musician can possibly make. After that I really have no desire to hear what this clown has to say musically. A person's personality is directly linked to his/her musical expressions, and this guy just comes across a total jerk to me.

  • This is guy is incredibly concise and articulate (both speaking and playing). I don't like the bass tone at all (miss a warmer old school sound but that's me).

What a great teacher and lesson --thanks for posting!!

  • Rlly nice eye opener, thnx man

  • The pro r alwys lyk dat....

  • ..this is very a informative concept in improvisation..thank you!

  • Well you see I preferred the first solo to the 2nd. The first sounded funky the second sounded like 'make jazz noise here' as Zappa said. Just because its trickier doesn't mean its better. Its a question of personal taste. Bootsy Collins didnt know a phrygian mode from the hole is in ass but he was a fantastic bass player -

  • the melody should be candabile, singable, that is not true, because that means to find a singer who can sing this sequence of keys and there are well trained singers who can, the melody should be sang want by everyone.

  • hahahaha!!! somebody commented i was blind but now i can see! ahaha

  • I was a bit sad first when he said his first solo wasn't very good. But compared to his second one it wasn't very good. The second solo was really bitchen'. I'm gonna try my hardest to get these ideas into my soloing.

  • Excellent! sharing is a wonderful expression of love and peace, great !God bless.

  • keep playing adam youll be good someday hahahahaha kidding youre great

  • If you're soloing over a twelve bar blues or something with frequent chord changes, do you have to follow every chord change or can you just play anything from the key? Also are there certain modes that sound better over certain chords? and how can u tell?

  • @pop9900 quite a good question.(im gunna think in F Blues) one could just play an F Blues scale, or some F minor pentatonic type scale over the whole thing, but that would sound pretty lame. as for the other question, and this all pretty generic, if its a min7 chord a dorian or natural minor scale would be good, if its a maj7 a major, or even lydian mode would sound quite good, if it is a dom7 or just plain 7 chord a mixolydian mode would be most appropriate. I hope that helps some.

  • there's nothing wrong with playing off the chord as long as you don't continuously start and end on the root. but if your like adam nitti, don't ever start or end on the same note as the key or your a loser. thats what i just learned from this video.

  • Thanks very much Adam. Where can I get a Cm7 chord like that to loop on my computer while I practice to it?

    Carl

  • Wonderful information, really inspiring and useful stuff. Great video.

  • excellent

  • This is excellent!! Thank you very much.

  • "You don't want to just do this"

    *mad solo*

    "too basic"

    *me depressed*

  • Why does he know everything? Why is he so damn fast 12:18 ? This video made me smile but hurt my head alot, in a good way though...

  • if you have a basic understanding of theory.. this is the shit

  • 5:42--6:22

you haters need to shut up, listen more.

  • thank goodness for garage band.

  • I wish I could play what we shouldn't as good as he does.

  • I thank you for this.

  • Great work Adam! Brilliant playing. Keep it up!

    Todd

  • I see. I understand.

  • Why is it when Adam plays things that he says "you wouldnt want to do" he sounds better than me ;-(

  • this is like watching master magician revealed... thank u daddariostrings, god and youtube... ^^

  • The beauty about intensive practice on this stuff is after a while you stop thinking about modes, arpeggios and patterns and instead new ideas will pop into your head as sounds and your fingers will automatically play the notes you hear in your head. It takes a long time, at least it did for me, about 2 years at 2-4 hours a day. Maybe some of you more talented guys will get it faster.

  • great explanation.

  • I really want that backing track.

  • awesome :D

  • As he was playing different arpeggios over the Cm7, can you play the matching full scales of each one of those degrees?

  • @happyslappysoong

You can, by doing that you would be playing the diatonic modes of the major scale, which is actually what this is about breaking away from.

  • evenwhen he says this is not wat ur supposed to do, it sounds amazing

  • @Funkyskunk01 thats funny I was thinking the same thing I also found out that if you

play the top half of a minor 9 chord it comes out to be a major 7 chord . like Dmin9

    top half is Fmajor7

  • @foxybrown2 That's what's great about playing keyboards. When I taught my self keyboards about 20 years ago I found I could easily play chords right up the scale like that. It was like "wow that's easy" yet it's so hard to envision on the bass. Playing keyboards is the best teacher there is. There all kinds of chords within the scale.

  • muy bien explicado, one of the best, some one know the price on this bass?

  • Excellent lesson! Ok, I'm off to buy some Daddario strings now...

  • ESTE ES UN BAJISTA CRETIVO!!!!

    Andi.

  • This lesson is so practical and helpful!!

  • Is there some method to finding out which modes to use for whatever scale or is it something you just have to learn and know?

  • @TVP4 well just write out the Bb major scale 2 octaves

Then play an octave starting on different degrees of your Bb major scale

    There are you modes.

He just plays the 1st 3rd 5th and 7th of each mode

  • Or you can just keep the scale shapes in your head and practice the use of larger intervals in your solos. That way you get those chord sounds without having to do all the mental gymnastics that I think keep some jazz musicians from being good 'feel' players.

  • i was blind but now i can see

  • @BassForGrace snowblind :)

  • thanks for this video Adam you are the best

  • wow cool...

  • anyone have tabs for those 7 chord patterns?

  • transcribe it for yourself and you'll realize it's much more helpful.

  • take a c major scale and instead of playing from c to c, play the same scale but from d to d. and so on. its really easy when you get a feel for it.

  • Thanks

  • Thats the mode patterns though, not the chord patterns...

  • the chords are within the modes

  • THIS HAS HELPED SOOO MUCH!!!!

  • Very interesting. so much so that I only intended to watch briefly, but I finished the entire 16:49. Thank you.

  • thx for this video!!

  • Wow!!! Great video!!! Thanks for posting it!!! Where can I buy this on dvd?
