@Seektruth1st How immature can you be? The Bible comes in so many FREE forms that I don't know where to begin. A Christian church, which never ever REQUIRES you to give money, will have hundreds of copies available to read. You can find it for free all over the internet, or in the form of phone apps. A book made from paper costs money to produce, that's why they charge for it. Don't twist it up, most church money goes to missionary work or foreign aid.

I know you are absorbed in your Ipod way of life, but before this time, it was indeed sold and if you research what the highest selling book of all time is you will get the same response.Furthermore, there a are many books that are freely available. @Seektruth1st You're looking at the Papacy as a role model for Christianity. I know two pastors personally. Both live in a one story house and live very modestly. I know what cars they drive because I'm a mechanic and I've worked on both their cars. Of course there are preachers who are a little extravagant, but not many, and not at the churches I attend. My churches give food to the hungry, education for the poor, and lots of missionary work. Churches aren't a scam.

They claim they work for God so they are being blessed, nonsense. These people should be keeping just enough to survive and giving ALL of the rest to those in need. No excuses! I never said all churches were scams but,unfortunately there are definitely alot. Driving a mercedes when kids are starved is just wrong.

@Seektruth1st I can guarantee that most of them aren't as wealthy as the papacy. I saw a cardinals house from a neighboring $4 million home. Very extravagant. I'm very sure there are preachers who spend more than they should on themselves. Honestly, I really wish people would stop giving money to those guys. My family has always supported small churches, which is what people should do when they start seeing preachers driving Mercedes around.

I do not deny that at all. though you cannot deny that there are televangelists mostly who have far more than they should. it is not enough to donate a little to a good cause and then reside in a mansion with multiple cars and lavish lifestyles. In the end, I think the best way to sow money into Gods kingdom is to make the independent choice yourself and give to someone in need...even if it is a stranger on the street.Seems more Christ like.

@CreateRealWorldPeace Interesting, I notice you say true followers are that of "the way" which were Jesus immediate disciples and what they preached and this was considerably different to Paul also. John James and Peters writings are still jewish in substance as were their post resurrection behaviour. If it were not, these disciples would not have gone back to the temple to praise God afterwards, which they did. Makes more sense as Jesus never said the law was ended either.

@CreateRealWorldPeace As for the televangelists, i think it is very obvious they are not working under Jesus teachings. If the law is really dead as Paul insists, then the tithe died with it. Funny how most mainstream Christians say the law is null and void but when it comes to tithing, somehow this remains as alive and well. Jesus said give to the poor (aka Gods Kingdom) he didn't say give it to preachers, people want blessings themselves, they hardly want to bless the poor with giving...

Today, Christians have been taught to view God as none other than a spiritual vending machine to get what they need in the here and now. Seldom do I see or hear of Christians giving time to anyone in need apart form themselves....but then again, the ones who do these works of God do not sound a trumpet.

They only pay the money because they are told it is a financial seed and that whatever is paid will come back 50 or 100 fold etc. Everyone is out to get paid when they pay, they see it as an investment to gain return, nothing to do with helping the poor and needy...which is what Jesus taught. non Christians seem to know more about Jesus than those who say they believe in him.

I do see where the money has been spent though, as there are many aid and missionary programs in which the church helps to fund. The money is not an investment, but rather a donation. Therefore, whatever goes to the church is theirs, and we trust the church of our choice to spend the money wisely.

Yes perhaps, but charities are run by people and people are fallible. Still I believe that charities are there to help people, yes its often run like a business but unfortunately thats more a by product of capitalism not necessarily a full inditement of the charity. I also did say well researched ... and i'll freely admit I haven't researched all red cross initiatives, but ones I have donated to were seemingly good causes and more importantly wasn't just a "spread our religion" type of charity

It depends upon the church. If someone isn't catholic and are attending a small non denom church the money will not be going to those things. It will go towards maintaining the church building and helping out the local community.

Religion is for the most part a business, the worste one in america is the lakewood church in texas. The church recently leased a nba basketball arena to be there church at a cost of 90 million dollars.

They take in 52 million dollars a year in church attendance offerings, and another 20 million mailed into the church each year. Not to mention he's written aobut 10 books worth countless more millions. Joel olsteen is hte pastor.
