  • Amazing smoking !! Awesome capture !!

  • Can't these things run with just one engine if the other one fails?

  • I never knew that HST's were steam trains

  • CLAGGAGE!!!

  • do i hear a paxman valenta engine?

  • Please remember: Smoking is not allowed on any London Underground train or Station!

  • Thank heaven for electrics...although the sight of a class 91 is never going to rival that of an HST, despite the smoke...

  • The smoke is from crank case oil leaking UP past the piston rings and being burned in the cylinders. This is a well documented fault when a video gets uploaded at the WRONG ASPECT RATIO! See how the Loco is squashed and ends up being tall and thin. Now imagine what has happened inside the engine. - The previously CIRCULAR cylinder and perfectly fitting piston, have now been distorted into an oval, destroying the oil seals, and hence all this smoke.

The video uploader should pay for the repairs.

  • cough-cough

  • I think its safe 2 say the head gasket has gone :)

  • did some of the passengers collapse of smog?

  • i thought smoking was band in all stations.

  • @tornadof3raf after banning smoking in all stations, they had to make up for all the missing pollution somehow.

  • che tristezza...

  • As Del Boy would have said to the cameraman - "Brace yourself Rodney!!!"

  • no smoking only applies INSIDE the train :/

  • HST is a tax in Canada called, "Harmonized Sales Tax."

  • It didn't sound to great for a HST either, like you said... Green Peace, cry your hearts out! >:)

  • They've made to many steam trains

  • must be a train full of steam enthusiasts...and a loco passionate about steam as well.

  • It's a diesel-outline steam engine instead of a steam-outline diesel!

  • This is 7100's disguise....

There are some things a steam loco can't hide though!

  • 'Great western' are reknowned for constantly re painting paint jobs as if it magically makes the crap any better! They changed the corporate paint job twice in the short time I worked for 'em - the tossers! New paint on clapped out rubbish is their ethos.

  • engine over fueling or turbo fault

  • 5*****

  • OK, who filled it with unleaded?!

  • not sounding gud atall was it

  • BLOODY HOLLY HELLFIRE!!!!

  • @RichEdmondsuk A good old proper english roasting.....nice :)

  • He forgot to blow the whistle LOL

  • I Thought Smoking Was Banned At Stations ?

  • Just needs pistons and a tender lol

  • ha and they telling us to go green and give up our cars wtf?? i'm i truck driver if i drove my truck with a smoking problem like that vosa would be waiting for me.pulling in telling me not driving this truck any further i would hae to have it recovered? plus a fine i would to pay. so how come they get away with it??

  • another class service from the blackman

  • clagtastic

  • This is worse then a third world country. Wait a minute. Britain is a third world country.

  • @alboree3 Haha it's true, we are now

  • @alboree3 Are you talking about England, N Ireland, Wales or Scotland? This was filmed in England, so that's England. Not Britain. Using Great Britain is exactly the same as United Kingdom. Since this isn't affecting any of the adjacent countries to England, it should be said as "England is a third world country". But if you can't even get that correct then USA isn't exactly 1st world if their education system is this bad. Are you jealous of our free healthcare, better weather and transport?

  • @RichEdmondsuk without wishing to be a tad pedantic, but "Great Britain is exactly the same as United Kingdom" is a false statement. N. Ireland is part of the UK, not GB, for the UK is made up of GB and NI... Other than that, clag ahoy!

  • @mi0jvi You misinterpret what I meant. By saying UK is the same as GB, I meant in the context used, not the countries contained. Many people who live outside the UK use both GB and UK to cover all areas (including N. Ireland), my partner who resides in Turkey being one of them.

  • More toxic than steam!

  • is that normal?ll the swearing i mean : )

  • listen closely you can hear a quickly moving trainspotters wrist.

  • nice CLAG

  • Greenpeace,my ar..

  • Why all you guys saying it needs oil? It looks more like its burning oil. But yeah she sounds rough. Poor thing. It's probably been scrapped now :(

  • needs oil

  • @sargeaap if it needed oil yeah it will sound bad but it wouldn't be burning oil like it is here

  • steam loco in disguise!

  • Bet it's 40 a day that one!

  • wow.why did that happen.great vid though. :)

  • I hope you held your breath! that's cancer in that there smoke!

  • Think it needs a new engine lol

  • aint seen oil in ages tht aint

  • It's burning more oil than gasoline...

  • @noxis93 idiot it runs on diesel not petroleum. Diesel is thick fluid where petroleum isnt. so it for diesel it would tend to smoke uo more then what you may think.

  • @GayBoyRunning lolumad

  • thinks its a steam train!

  • @badboiant29 Yeah!

  • the engine has been sitting idling for a long time and will probably clear once the engine is running at full speed. the napier deltic engine in the class 55 used to do the same thing.

  • Powercar at rear under great strain. I love HSTs on one engine. Valentsa of course!

  • black jock must have just given it a service

  • I love steam trains lol

  • wow! that was claggy

  • its a blown turbo (hence the lack of turbo scream) and both powercars are (or were) fitted with paxman valentas

  • steam to diesil, now diesil to steam...ahhh good to be back steamys!!

  • Thinks hes a steam train lol

  • and here i though global warming was americas fault

  • @gtasandman Global warming is a joke. Something governments thought up

    to create jobs.

  • @dreambuilders48808 what ever you say that is why it barley snows in ny now

  • @gtasandman You know the weather runs in a 30-40year loop? Cold then hot then cold....... When I was young the government was warning about global cooling.

    Go Figure.

  • @dreambuilders48808 haha somebody who thinks he knows what he's talking about.

  • @wks1978 Education is a wonderful thing!

  • I'm not surpised it clags loads considering the amount of miles an HST has to do..

Anyone know which HST number has the highest mileage..?

  • @sparky30368 ive read that it is 43008 wich now works for east coast

  • clag monster!

  • It looked like the front unit was throwing out unburnt fuel, or not running on all cylinders. I don't know diesel engines, but whoever thought that was fit for service was wrong.

  • @NJPurling I suppose it's karma really, whatever petty amount Worst Group have saved in undermaintenancing them, it loses in extra fuel it has to put in. Fuck off the privateers.

  • @NJPurling Usually, these kind of things are caused by blown turbochargers. engine oil/coolant gets into the engine and produces SMOKE.

  • Both Valentas, front one with knackered turbo?

  • 8 dislikes, all obviously activists, and by disliking this video will make the smoke go away! *sarcasm* LOL!!!! Brilliiant Video Mate Liked :)

  • The Front Was A Valenta The Back Was MTU or maybe other way round!

  • @KWVRMAD You were right the 1st time!

  • Comment removed

  • And I thought chemtrails were bad...

  • Now the second power car sounded much more like a HST should sound. The first well, didn't.

  • back to the Steam age then lol

  • bad injectors or something.

  • a ship engine in a locomotive-no wonder they snapped the exhausts with the vibration.

  • brilliant video smokey joe then lol

  • SMOOOKING SOMEBODY STOPE ME!!!!!

  • im more surprised that it is sunny in Plymouth. wow.

  • A steam engine in HST clothing.

  • turbo is blown, that happened sometime on the line at my old place

  • That doesn't sound healthey!

  • P A X M A N - V A L E N T A

  • Working steam locos live on

  • Our XPT's the cuzin of these's locmotives dont even smoke up that bad and our locomotive is older

  • @GayBoyRunning HSTs are older and better - XPTs are a model from HSTs. This one just had a problem.

  • me lordzz!

  • British diesel locomotives are beautiful, but too pollute the air with these engines unregulated!

  • I love the guy in the background " He never makes it fucking bearing has gone"

  • this is the age.....of the train...ha...ha.

  • driver: oi bill whats that smoke comein out are fgw hst

co driver: thats not smoke that me smokeing

  • havin a cigar

  • Playing steam locomotive, I see.

  • WOW somethings very wrong with that paxman valenta cause at 0:16 i hear a scraping thumping noise when he give her more power

  • @teletubbykiller23 At the very least the turbo's gone. With that in mind, quite possibly bits of turbo are stuck inside the engine.

  • @teletubbykiller23

That is injection knock caused by incorrect fueling as the turbo has blown.

  • lol

  • Typical First ethos, same with the fagged-out buses - DRIVER HER ON STEADY!

  • @BlueOrderRedMarauder you bet. just let it develope lad

  • Ooh, I can almost feel it. What a great feeling to be covered in nice warm clag.

  • public transport is good for the enviroment...lol. nice clag action. 5*

  • It looks like it's on fire...

Is it the cyl. gone bust...

  • Why wouldn't the driver just shut it down and run 1 engine ?

  • fail piston ring failed.

  • i think its clag just saying that the smoke is whiteish gray

  • mtu front val at the back??

  • eat my soot baby lol

  • ...paid for with nazi gold in both cases

  • intelligent answer!

  • i would hate to be on that platform

  • Suoer Alco!

  • the MTU has a severe engine problem

  • It was a Valenta then.

  • @class313

Actually the one at the front was an MTU

The one at the back was a Paxman.

  • @JBOwl4life In the above video, they are both Valentas

  • @JBOwl4life

    No, it really wasnt. Moron

  • mtu knaced valenta

  • its not an MTU

  • @Victorialine67 the front isan MTU, the back is a valenta.

  • @emperorgrant what is the difference between the MTU and the valenta?

  • @monkeynuts530 The Paxman Valenta, is an old engine, put in the HST's when they were built. Its british built I believe and it has the high pitch scream sound.

After refurbishment of HST fleets, they now have the American made MTU engine. Its newer, better for the environment but sounds different.

The engines are both alike in power, and they are both Mahussive V12's i think.

  • youre right with the valenta. but wrong with the mtu, it is german made and its a v16. the front is indeed a valenta but it seems its turbo has gone hence the richness of the smoke and the lack of turbo scream

  • @emperorgrant oh good MTU's have always been unreliable pieces of junk except when put in the german leoperd 2A6 main battle tank! MTU'S like this are better put in military vehicles like the leoperd tank and valenta's put in HST's thumb me up if you think so

  • @teletubbykiller23 I'm not surprised, they have 8 turbo's on a V16 engine instead of a V12 with 1 turbocharger, the MTU has 8 turbo's to go, thats 1 for every 2 cylinders. I have never been a fan of this 'modern refinement' ever since they started putting small turbo's in 1.2 petrol engines & scrapping the conventional 1.4/1.6. 1. It has a turbo to break 2. The engine seems too small for the increased combustion they are putting refinement over reliability. The headgaskets will break soon.

  • @1ns4ne1d10t

The 16V4000R41s fitted to the HSTs only has 4 turbochargers...........

  • @Sprog030 I thought it was 8, thats what I was lead to believe.

  • @teletubbykiller23

And also the MTU 12V956TB10 has bin a realy reliable engine for 30 years (the MTU brother of the valenta soundwise aswell) That engine was used in the BR 218 Rabbits!

  • Nice. 5*

  • A little poorly, methinks. I don't hear a turbo, perhaps that's what is dead.

  • hold yer breath!

  • I wonder how this Power Car is doing now.

    Very Nice Video and Clag

  • MTUed, horribly

  • good now as fgw breplaced them with new uns!

  • looks like the piston rings have gone!

  • deffinetly f**ked lol

  • not good poor engine lol hey check your video settings it looks very tall and skinny to you may have your camera set to wide screen other wise great video to catch it cheers

  • Some kind of engine problem on that FGW Class 43.. Wow that black smoke sure was smoky..

  • Testimony to why Alison Steadman was thrown out of FGW, her policy of puntuality over reliabilty - WHATEVER THE COST"

  • turbo problem!!!!

  • FMJ! what a BEAST!

  • Lol! Well filmed. Needs servicing much?

  • Imagine this power car leaving paddington, i bet it set all fire alarms off!!!!

  • more smoke than a steam engine, well caught on video.

  • wtf is that normal

  • blocked aircleaner or faulty injectors can lead to this!

  • Ahhhh, the Good Old Days of Valenta Thrash! Great Vid

  • The oil is low it looks like there is going to be a service on this train soon.

    Thanks

    Dave

  • This train should have not moved from Old Oak Common depot. It could do more damage, prehaps that FGW realise they are replacing the engines so they dint bother

  • its called steam engine

  • No its not, its called an MTU diesel engine.

  • It's a blown gasket, had it happen to me before and had to limp in from Newark to Grantham before getting dragged into Newcastle by 91107!

  • how fast can they go with just 1 power car?

  • they're limited to 110 MPH with one power car for safety reasons.

  • Im impressed that they could get to that speed with just 1

  • well, it is a bit of a struggle, a Paddington service with 1 power car (when they were Brand new) ended up being 5 down at Slough once because they can't get the acceleration with one Power car.

  • 5 Down? what does that mean, educate me.

  • 5 Down means it was running 5 minutes behind it's schedule.

  • that is not bad for losing one powercar. i think thats bloody excellent!

  • Comment removed

  • I had a turbo fail on a class 47 on a test run from crewe works to craven arms. Lots of smoke but no go and had to assisted back to crewe.

  • looks like a seized pressure charger to me

  • lol I can hear someone saying 'fucking hell'!

  • Well at least he's got the rear power car to push him when the front one finally throws the towel in.

The HSTs out of Bournemouth were luxury compared to the Voyagers that replaced them.

So were the 442s compared to the 444s and those 'orrible little 450s...Why do they put 450s on long distance trains..?

    Anyway, I digress. That's a great video.

  • Well they going to be replaced now!

  • best thing is that power car had just been serviced hahaha

  • As a qualified engineer and studying the footage closely, I can confidently state that in my professional opinion that the front power car is buggered, shafted and most probably as much use on that train as kick in the nuts would be of use to the average bloke in the street.

  • Thats what i call a bloody sea gull killer dose the job
