The part in which she says that she did not help one person as much as she could is the issue. Regardless of race, if your representing the government and helping people you can't have that attitude. She should have just kept that part to herself
White guy speaking: This is a woman who learned from experience. Originally she learned to be racist because white farmers killed her father. But she then learned that it was wrong and that it is an issue of the rich against the poor. I'd vote for this woman to be President or vice President next to Ron Paul. (I'd love to see that.) I saw the edit @ 20:59. Whatever it was, it wasn't anything like what Briebart did. It could have been a battery replacement. Doubt it was a hack job.
I am so glad someone is finally standing up to FOX propaganda and not being afraid of them because they and the Republicans thrive on scarring people to death and I must admit they have always did a good job at it. The democratics always pretend to come at them and then back off because of scare attacks by the right. It took a strong, bold woman to stand up to Breitbart and FOX. Mrs. Sherrod is such a classy, outstanding woman that set such a positive example for people of all races.
after watching this video i feel Mrs Sherrod was wronged in so many ways. She speaks to everyone's concerns. Save your money, get an education, learn a skill, pull your own weight and help those who need your help. these messages are sound advice and everyone should listen to her words.
agreed until the end Obama, he is for banks... look at the things he has done.. I still have hope in him, but he just looks like a puppet to me, but I agree with most of things she said. It is poor vs. rich. The rich made it that way when we lose everything and they gain money even in recessions!
How can anyone call this lady a racist if they have watched the whole video? She talked about how she came to a point 23 years ago where it was about poor people that needed help not black or white. How could anyone miss this point and get this lady fired! What is this country coming too. Has it really come to this non sense.
sounds like she has alot of vent up rage for whites . but i did not see how this video made her a raicest , and how she was truly trying to do the right thing to help someone out
I think Shirley Sherrod rocks!! Black and white can be a complicated issue but I do my best to just talk to everybody the same way. I may not always get a positive response, but I usually do. Sophia Nelson and Kweisi Mfume are excellent realistic role models that "white" culture can easily understand. Tell your story with courage, and we will get beyond fear.
If you have not walked in her shoes, you don't know how if feels to walk in her shoes. Be quick to listen and slow to judge. Slow to criticize and quick to learn from what she has to say. She speaks of the experience of her family and speak on what many Black people from that time are still afraid to speak about.
I am a white woman from Shirley Sherrod's neck of the woods. I, like so many, am disgusted by the scandal that has hurt this woman and further hurt race relations in this country. I am very lucky to be raised by anti-racists parents, but not many white people in this area were raised this way. Although racism is very much with us, I have to add though that things have gotten a lot better. We have more work to do. I for one will do my part to heal our nation of racial ugliness.
I think part of the problem with this is that they tried to fire Mrs.Sherrod the wrong way. Normally you get called to an office and it's explained to you why you're getting fired. Had they done this with Mrs.Sherrod she could have at some point clarified her comments on the video and all of this would have been avoided. So fire people the normal way in an office next time so they can explain themselves.
OK, I listened to the whole darn thing. Not because it was a captivating speech, because it wasn't, but because I wanted to know for myself what Ms. Sherrod said. No, she didn't deserve to lose her job. But she certainly isn't a saint. Is it any less wrong to divide people on the basis of economic status or political philosophy than it is on race?
Originally, the term racist was meant to indicate that one side was accusing the other of being racist, but once it was noticed that people only resorted to this tactic when all other arguments had been exhausted, it acquired its new meaning of “indicating one’s own concession of defeat.”
@freedompatriot1 lol you could of just said race card or some new word one would use when a black person dares to speak about racism, because we know once that happens-others may look at it as a concession of defeat.
racist – A statement of surrender during an argument. When two people or disputants are engaged in an acrimonious debate, the side that first says “Racist!” has conceded defeat.
That said, they have no further legitimate argument to make in their own defense.
It's ignorance and one of the reasons why they play the victim.
@freedompatriot1 That could be true. However, to say it is consistently true is pure ignorance. Because what you are essentially saying is that racism does not exist. Not only is that ignorant...but exceptionally hilarious.
shame on the NAACP and the Administation for jumping to vigilante justice. She's quite a lady... I can't imagine what it is like to pull over to the side of the road and submit your resignation - on demand,
I listened to a news show with a dem, repub, and some moderates debating this whole Sherrod non-news story. By the end it was clear that NON of the idiot pundits had actually watched the entire video. Only room for willful ignorance.
And yes cmv1202 I do blame Obama. I like him but he screwed this one up.
As a kid of the 60s South, I'm grateful my parents didn't raise me to be a bigot like this women. She's a racist. I'm black/white&Cherokee, and I judge folks the way Dr. King wanted us to.-by content of character & not skin color. The NAACP is nothing but a socialist/commie org. They no longer look out for anyone right's except stirring the race pot! I'm sick of this s*&t. As a Conservative-I know that keeping the racial tension going is part of the commie plot to destroy us. Wake up.
@AceofSaintcanard84 How is she a racist when she went above and beyond her duties to help the two white farmers? She could have let the matter drop when the white attorney suggested to them that they just sell the farm, yet she was not satisfied with that and found another attorney. You know nothing of Dr. King, but what the good white folk want you to know.
@AceofSaintcanard84 you clearly havent watched the video or kept up with news at all even your conservative high lords have apologized to this woman for jumping the gun but typical of conservative dictators to believe what they want regardless of the facts.
It's terrible how Breitbart lied and misrepresented her. She's actually making a lot of "right wing" arguments about racism. They are: poverty not race, is more important. Black people aren't starting enough businesses. Black young people are not seeking careers in the USDA - the door is open but they are not coming in. These are not pointing the finger at Whites. Breitbart needs to be repudiated for his racism.
You might consider acquiring a dictionary. Andrew Breitbart has been repudiated, which is to say that his story as told was justified and this video lends credence to his integrity.
The part you missed is Shirley Sherrod's mea culpa. She was neither raised nor intended to become racist and that having discovered the tendency in herself she actively sought to change.
What is sad is in small towns everywhere not much has changed as far as equality goes. One of the reasons so many black men are in jail is because it's a fact that black people get longer sentences for the same crimes committed. There are still white people who are breeding hate within their homes. It comes out in their children's mouth, the old, hurtful words of hate. Racism has become a dirty little secret and when people tell their stories it makes some uncomfortable with themselves.
@ecxod she was talking about her past- probably- like me- may have had very little association with other cultures other than blacks & white at that time!!
@allgolfedout if you pay attention to the news you would know that the tape is not edited the camera man ran out of video and had to replace the video cartridge in the camera.
This lady is racist and you advertise this as the "full tape" but obviously part of it is missing. Shame on you NAACP. Even shame on your name MLK would prefer the NAAP National Association for the Advancement of People.
she talked a little about black history... like there were "black and white" slaves until they made some laws to divide them... she didnt mention that the democrats were the ones that made the laws to make blacks slaves and keep them slaves... the democrats formed the kkk to intimate people to vote democrat to keep slavery... its ironic that the people "democrats" that wanted to keep blacks in slavery, are the ones blacks support... everyone should read "american history in black and white"...
The NAACP is a racist organization, like the KKK. Look a its staff, i see no asian, latinos or whites. Shirley is a racist and her firing was rightfully so. The speech she gives is a hate speech about evils of whites. If it wasnt for white society, the blackss would starve, look at the pride of black economic miracles/achievements : haiti, zimbabwe, congo, somalia, etc.
Why is there no outcry against Ms. Sherrod's obvious race-baiting, when 24 minutes into the speech she condemns the "...mean-spirited ...Republicans" that object to ObamaCare "...because we have a Black president..." ?
Also, what had to be edited at the 20:59 point in the speech? Was there some little racist zinger at the end of the White farmer story? What say you, NAACP?
It never ceases to amaze me, at the level of ignorance in this world. Look up the word race as it relates to humanity. There is one true G_d. The G_d of Abraham. He created man in the image of himself. If one dares to read the Bible, he will find that the Creator of all things, did not call man by the color of his skin, but by the land or family from which he was descended. We do have an enemy and he seeks to divide G_d's people, by the use of the term race. Our time is short on this earth.
Thank you for that remark about all people being human and having life in common. Race and religion was used to divid us and to be sure that those in power would remain. This woman (Shirley Sherrod) is justified and she is a rightous woman. How dare these right wing fucks use this remarkable massage to continue the hate that has brought this great country to it's knees.
I am white, I lived through the sixties, I've seen the service stations with white man, black man, white woman, black woman. This was considered a premium service station because the colored had two bathrooms! I believe that if you slow down, listen to the whole speech, and clear your mind if racism. You can hear the true message. She plainly states that it is, the gap and the racism between the really rich and the poor. My white grandmother told me the same thing the whole time she was alive.
Sherrod espouses a divisive and racist attitude. This is not the type of person that we want representing the african american community, and this is not the type of person we want working in government.
Interesting speech on many levels. One can almost envision her growth as a person over her lifetime. She is very wrong about something however. Its not about rich and poor. Its about opportunity. Almost every person in this country has the opportunity to work hard, get an education, grow as a person and, if they choose, make money. Then they can pay for their healthcare. For those who choose not to do that, do they have a "right" to have other people pay for it.
As for the "haves and the have nots," you folks do realize that Ms. Sherrod is in the "have" group??? Let's see here, her organization's settlement share of a billion dollar lawsuit againt the government (yes, a billion dollars) is settled for $13 million, of which she and her hubby each get $150,000 personally, and within days of the settlement, she's appointed as Georgia Director for Rural Development . Just remember children, there is MORE to this story. Can you say, "shakedown artist."?
At 23:11? where did she get that history? Slavery and indentured servants were two separate things. Slavery, wasn't suddenly invented out of a conspiracy of white elitists to change the indentured servant system. Then at 24:25, she goes off on political crap and playing the race card about how Republicans are "racist" for oposing Obama. What an idiot, Republicans in congress have been opposing Democrat presidents since the beginning of time -- it has nothing to do with race.
wow, andrew breitbart is dishonest. her story of not giving her all at first in helping the white farmer was given with a smile of embarrassment and she talks of how the injustice with which the white farmer was treated moved her to overcome her resentment of white people - which stemmed from racism and prejudice she experienced as a child. thus, her observation that the primary goal is to help the poor, not just black people.
I just heard her whole speech. It is very obvious this woman has her demons. She is still a racist and dislikes whites. She is inciting anger among the races!
Sherrod is a commie obama lover. I really don't care if she hates white people. Her left wing ideology and support for a Marxist president is far worse than some stupid racism accusation.
Anyone actually listen to the WHOLE piece? You're comfortable with her notions? Sad. Race doesn't matter until you disagree with her politically. If you do, you MUST be racist. So much for the epiphany.
In her speech, Sherrod reveals herself to be both a socialist and a racist. It's a shame that her past life experiences have made her see individuals as "black" or "white" or "rich" or "poor" instead of just people. It wouldn't surprise me to see her become a commentator on MSNBC real soon.
i find it funny that a black lady comes on, makes racist remarks, then other blacks come on here and say "stop racism"--referring to white people. ha ha. that is funny to me.
if you want to stop racism, get rid of people like this moron sherrod, jesse jackson and al "twana brawley" sharpton.
She has a number of issues dealing with race she clear has not dealt with as she assumes racism is still ram-pit today. I oppose her because she is clearly a communist and clearly speaks of taking from the rich to give to the poor (she assume blacks are a major element of the poor who should have money given to them, which could be considered racist).
Bottom line is she does not see people as people but people as groups to be either hated or supported (oppressed or oppressors)
I think breitbart has a big problem. why did he show only a part of the video? He wants to make news. he is a fool. he is the one biased. all his videos target only blacks.he was indirectly targeting obama to get a reason since he is one of those stupid conservatives. . what a fool bogus I thought you americans changed but have mentally sick guys . what a pitty.

i think that if i walked in sherrods shoes, i would have the same thoughts on life. if you listen to what she says, she comes to a point of clarity in which she realizes she had to change her ways of thinking. i didnt hear "we gotta kill some crackers" like we did from that shabazz guy from the black panther party. i feel bad that this woman was scapegoated by people trying to keep racism alive
look shes a racist cant you tell?, she takes great joy in talking about holding whitey down and so does the crowd, doesnt matter that the incedent was 20 years ago she shows no remorse or acts like she regrets her past racist way
This is strong and powerful women that still as of today keeps the fire going with the movement. Call it what you may, but this women is only telling the truth.
I think this whole Shirley Sherrod episode gives us some insight into the current American psyche. First off, nobody wants to be called a racist. Being associated with 'racism' in modern America can ruin your reputation. That's why the USDA acted so fast - in mainstream America, any connection with 'racism' is avoided like the plague.
The USA is no longer a 'racist country', but this episode shows we are not yet a post-racial society. We are on the cusp, in my opinion we're 1 generation away!
Mrs. Sherrod IS a racist!! She openly admitted that she wasn't helping the WHITE farmer as much as she could because he was WHITE. And that it wasn't until some time later that she figured out what she was (wasn't) doing was wrong.
Using the logic I keep seeing here, if I steal your car, then 2 weeks later figure out that stealing your car was wrong and bring it back, I am no longer a car thief.
Ms. Sherrod should have been fired simply for stating that she would favor south georgia over north Georgia when deciding what people and or projects get funded. This statement is by itself a firing offense that has nothing to do with whether or not she is a "nice" lady. As a black activist, she had no business being a supervisor in the government.
Ms. Sherrod has no business being a government supervisor. As a supervisor of people of ALL races, she had no business attending a group whose mission is to support only one race. Also she mentionesd that she would favor south Georgia over north Georgia when deciding about who gets government funding awards. Folks, this is a no-brainier firing offense. You cannot be a black activist AND be a government supervisor.
you black you white people is the story. no one will hear or studie the full context . so she should be fired. she had not shown the context to the public. can the triple K go out and have the same speach i think they would be taken out of context. she was given another job before the public got any clue as to what the public knew, what the context was, that makes the whitehouse look bad. the mass public only got the short story and that is all they will rember.change is now whites and blacks.
Hatred?!? Ms.Sherrod starts off with a story to lead you to the point that she is trying to make with examples of then and now. What happened in the past is Still affecting today and so on. On the other hand, her point is that racism is still an issue today, but the bigger issue is people of any race who have more feels superior to people of all race who have less which are causing massive issues. So we all as one (human kind of all races) needs to step in and speak knowledge to our adolescents.
Your "black President", Shirley, is NOT an American. He's part of the Bush/Clinton/Bush continuum but the worst of the bunch because he isn't an American at all. Also, you ignore what happened to the Chinese in America. I suggest you read Iris Chang's books. They were slaves here, Shirley. SO: How do I feel about what you said? I think it was stupid to have admitted you had an understandable reaction to whites in the south back then. I had it too and I'm a white guy. But I'm OK with this speech
“If some men are entitled by rights to products of the work of others, it means that those others being forced to provide are deprived of their rights and are condemned to slave labor. There can be no such thing as the right to enslave even for the welfare of others.” - Ayn Rand
Statist Progressives (Liberals, Socialists, Fascists & Communists) HATE liberty & promote SLAVERY
OK for argument sake let’s say that Sherrod was a racist. I’m suppose to feel empathy for white tea baggers who act scared by some black bureaucrat in GA celebrating some miss directed payback for the lynching of her father and more than 3K other blacks while a majority white Congress and Senate refuse to pay a court ordered $1.5 billion to black farmers. Tea baggers have the nerve to compare the speech of some angry black people to the actions of white trash, this Gov’t. Y'ALL ARE SICK !
while this story is getting 2 much attention.meanwhile back at the lab..Stilll an oil spill, wars all over the place, man made and natural disasters, climate change, terrorist threats in the US, fake ass al-queda bin laden threats, alien presence everywhere.sheeple wake up..they needed a diversion to all the happenings going on today.WAKE UP! They played right off your silly prejiduces and coraled you fuckers like sheep.PAY ATTENTION TO THE EVENTS...DON'T FALL ASLEEP WITH YA EYES WIDE SHUT!
Wow I can't believe this woman lost her job because of a clip, taken out of context, and on Youtube no less. What a world we live in!
There is not one ounce of hate in this video! Nothing about this is racist; she is simply recounting, sharing a story that happened in her past. Actual events! I mean to tell people not to talk about their past is idiotic. Racism WAS created just to divide us! We are all human beings living with the same goals, struggles and needs!
If you see everything as it relates to race (even when it doesn't) that you have every thought, every opinion, every decision "colored" by it. "Our" community, "his own kind," how many blacks work in her agency, how many acres blacks own, etc. It's just that when there are so many groups you don't like, the rich, the powerful, the Bushes, Republicans, lawyers, it's impossible to not see the prejudice. While by her own admission she has been willing and able to discriminate based on her bigotry.

... so she was led by her teenage commitment for all those forty some years??
We all have past we must deal with, but life goes on...taking our sorrow and anger out on other people doesn't make us any better, does it...and it took her 45 years to realize all that...sad...

The Shirley Sherrod saga is what happens when over zealous, mean spirited folks jump to conclusions without doing total research. Get the story first yes, but GET IT RIGHT!
Racism will change when the man in the mirror acknowledge that when God made this world that he made it for all people, not just for him: then racism will change.
Mrs Sherrod seems like a nice lady, but there are several places in this 43 minute speech where she makes racist comments. She laments that some land once owned by a black man was purchased by a white man. She blames opposition to ObamaCare on pure racism (because Obama is black). And what's going on at 24:51? Shirley seems stuck in the 50's and 60's, like many older people in America. It's time to move past this black vs white group-think.
I can't believe people still say there are racist elements in this speech. The whole point was her story of moving past racism to come together and see this is as a class issue. I cannot believe people's lack of critical thinking and comprehension skills. They've just posted comments within 5 seconds of hearing something on Fox news and need to get their 2 cents in on a subject that they haven't tried to understand. Even in video, you don't have the attention span to actually listen.
we live this to fire her white people are still haters. Muslims and black Christians have a ways to go. may God help us. This planet is falling. I hope Obama stop this hate. we all are for change. we will keep fighting for peace and unity.
I watched Breitbart on Hannity explain the aired video. He claimed he didn't possess the video. He claimed his source had proved troublesome in acquiring the video, so he let it go. When the NAACP/TEA Party thing went down, he called him up. He claimed he was only sent portions of the video (exonerating himself). BS meter hit the limits. Why couldn't FOX have cut and played 25:16-26:55. Calls her country "beautiful" at 28:06. Calls on black youth and parents at 28:25. Miss that FOX?
I really don't understand why this lady lost Her job based on this video...She for one has like many African Americans Her age, very good reason for having memories and feelings like she does or had...But God revealed to Her truth...She admits her short comings there. I am white and I believe God made us all the same, but God didn't have anything to do with the past or any injustices going on today, those who use God's word for such things are not very educated in His word. Give back her job!
She's got a wonderful story and I'm happy that she's learned a lesson about racism. I think we all have many lessons to learn as far as racism goes.
She makes the statement that it's not about black v white, but about those who have v those who don't. I disagree. We're all Americans and dividing ourselves along any lines will always end poorly.
In THIS day and age, we need to ask ourselves WHY people don't have. You can't blame a hardworking person because a lazy person has less. Not cool...
What a brilliant lady everyone of us should listen to this Whie and Black. And she never used the term African American. My black friends are ofended by that term . They want to be refered to as Black American .
This video starts out with Shirley Sherrod talking about racism she was exposed to as a child, and the murder of her father at 17 yrs old at the hands of a white man. Now back in the 60's these were peoples attitudes....now, in 2010, Shirley Sherrod, has grown to fully appreciate the predicament of all people, She realizes that it's not a matter of white vs black anymore but a agonizing over the haves and the havenots!
she's has come a long way baby! I'd hope to have Shirley on my team!
@jkj92200 Shirley has NOT overcome her racist leanings. Finish the video and hear her call people who want to make their own decisions in health care "racists" This and things she has recently said in the media that if you dont agree with her political views you are "RACIST" that my friend is not a woman who has seen the light!
@jkj92200 I will agree that she has come a long way based on her speech, but she is still accusing people of being racist just because they disagree with a policy (Large Government and Government run healthcare) I hope people of all racists can look at this situation and start to get past the horrible things of the past and realize every issue in not about race.
"White man", "his own kind", "black and white", "rich and poor" she is Obama, have a ax to grind that life is unfair call Shirley. Who over reacted? Obama, take it up with him, if the WHITEHOUSE, can be "duped" by a video what else are they being duped over?
What did Obama do? He is not even involved with the controversy. It was Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack who fired her. I think more people WANTED Obama to speak up about the issue.
@cmv1202 I think this would have happend regardless of what administration we are under...with Americans like many tea party members Rush Laughbough and Glen Hick calling Pres. Obama a racist it understandable that she was asked to step down just as a police men would be given desk duty pending an investigation... If you are a God fearing person like Miss Shirley then you know that truth will always prevail...
Does anyone notice that her NAACP speech starts off by reinforcing hate of white's. I'm sorry for her loss, but that was a different time. How are we to move ahead when we continue to reinforce hate for another race? We have broken down race barrier's over and over. We have an "other than white" president now and hopefully it is not the last. She should have started her speech by saying nothing about color and just say it was about the poor people and then she may of still had a job!
@blurr3d1 The speech does not reinforce hatred. It merely starts of by setting the context of the 1940s and 1950s with regard to race relations at the time. I suppose you would like everyone to forget about what happened in those days. If we all forget about our history, we are bound to repeat the same mistakes. The speech goes on to tell how Shirley's mental race barriers were broken down, as she matured, which is why she is being begged to take a job to root out racism that still exists.
@blurr3d1 Did you listen to the entire speech? If you did, than you would understand why she started it off like that. No different than the movie "American History X" If you were to watch the first 30 minutes of the movie and take it for face value, then you would think it was a racist movie. And by the way, she was offered another job and received an apology from numerous people, including Bill O Reilly. Why?
give me a break. just because you have the attention span of a rock doesn't mean the rest of us have to have everything dumbed down. a majority of the speech was the STORY of her moral development, moving past racism, to come together and see it as a class issue. Your comment is the perfect example of how stupid our media and consumption of media has gotten: basic soundbites instead of real understanding of context and telling stories! Listen to the entire thing please.
@blurr3d1... I never thought I would say this, but I would have to say that what you've stated really shows that racism still lives in America. To understand where someone is going or where they are in life, you must know where they've come from. The starting of her speech was to make the children in the audience know that people like her have paved the way for them to do better in life.
@blurr3d1... Yes, the "other than white" president we have now has done the same as well and I'm glad he has because this country has too many "must be white" mentalities amongst the minority people to get anything done. Her speech was awesome and it will motivate A LOT of poor, minority Americans that listen to it. If you've never been discriminated against because of the color of your skin, you definitely have no comment about the reinforcement of the hating of white's.
@blurr3d1... What race barrier's have been broken down over and over??? The only thing I see on TV is a country that oppse the "other than white" president we have and don't even realize if the president looks bad, this whole country looks bad. How is this woman a racist when the farmer's "own kind" didn't help him out??? The "colored" woman did!
@blurr3d1... I'm glad this speech has come out in full. Now Americans can see this country isn't what it's all cracked up to be and that racism is still alive otherwise she wouldn't have lost her job in the first place!
@blurr3d1 Did you notice the edit when it came back to everyone laughing? Wonder what was said then? Your right I am sorry for what happened to her father, and the struggle she and so many others have had to go through. It shouldn't have been about race! After all there are many many many rich black people, including her!
@blurr3d I don't think racism went anywhere since those times. I think that with the change in times folks just had to be smarter about how the display their racism.
@FrankTuckerJr No kidding! Read the description: "This video was broadcast in March 2010 on DCTV in DeKalb county, Georgia. The speech has not been edited. There is a cut around 21:00 where the filmmaker changed tapes."
@FrankTuckerJr Yes, you are right, they cut that video big time. She was going off on a tangent about the race of the lawyers and race of the farmets. Seemed like she was just rambling, but given the controversy over this particular video, it sure is suspect that the video posted by the NAACP operatives has been cut, too. (And no, I'm not defending the Breitbart editing job either.)
@cloob1 Well before you judge, you should do the research to understand why certain things came to be. Its a known fact and this woman just reiterated what we all know, and that is non white people of color were heavily discriminated against in the not so long ago past. So just think if Non Colored people were discriminated against, killed, and looked over simply because of skin color then I would hope they started a NAANCP. I dont get why people try to ignore the past...
@woodywoodify maybe youre uncomfortable hearing about the past -perhaps you feel some guilt or shame when hearing the "way things were" -we DO need to be more accountable for what happens in our community but this clearly is NOT an example of that. PS Woody if your "part" black or ALL black like me does not clear you of self hatered -type "black girls white dolls" in the search field and figure out how self-aware you are.
this hoopla is not about Shirley Sherrod or obama or racism...its about the government wanting to crack down on bloggers and free independent journalists.
you noticed its been blown out of proportion, please ask yourself 'WHY'..whenever these things appear to be given way too much importance theres ALWAYS a reason...question.
this story has been shown on the news in europe...in germany and in england, this is not normal and only happens with such small stories if theres an agenda.
@OriginalBoxingKing you!!!are an idiot for making a(buffoon)statement like that.rule to the truly stupid!!!-if you have nothing to say that has or holds any value whatsoever..shut yo punk ass up!!!good day to you sir/mam:-)
@OriginalBoxingKing This was a set up, just like a Hollywood script, thrown to divert attention away from the real story of "journalists working together" against the conservative right......which means they work together for the "white house"!
@OriginalBoxingKing "Shirley Sherrod is an idiot stirring the pot for her own greed. Notice she has a driver for her large Lincoln? Interesting...." ...What, you want her driving while CNN reporter is asking her questions while being filmed?
@OriginalBoxingKing modern day bogey man...when you say O you say Obama and Oprah Winfrey yehe he wake up white folks you will all need white lawyers pretty soon. just take a look at Arizona. blow it out your ass, Sherrod. This is another bullshit story to take the attention away from the truth. watch out, you've just been robbed.
I know many black racists. Good lord the old days have been over with for decades! Get over the racism crap! I'm tired of the blacks playing the race card for political expediency and man have they gotten a lot of power with Dumbo in the White house but fear not people, the GOP is coming to the rescue this fall to help balance out things so its more fair for everyone again instead of Black liberation theology that BO preaches along with hate.
@Marksnotebook; this woman's father was probably murdered by your father...I am glad the demographic of this country is changing. gone are the days when you will win an election only on the strength of the the white majority. We will see how much gain the GOP makes in this years election.
My goodness, white people can be sensitive about being discriminated! They see that famous small portion of this vid, and get so riled up, that they don't even check the fuller context before calling for her head! Goodness gracious... ;)
@cleanhomer Maybe your reference to "white people can be sensitive" has something to do with being accused of being racist because we disagree with someone of another race on an issue. While I consider myself an independent, I think it is offensive for Mrs. Sherrod to say the Repub. are against Obama just because he is a black President or because one does not agree with THIS healthcare reform they are racist (24-25 min) Think about it.
I am also curious what was cut out at the 21 minute point.
SHERROD IS A RACIST. to say she is not is more bullshit double standards. i served 20 years in the army, then taught school, raised 4 children - and i tell you this country is going under because of bullshit like this - putting dumb-asses in places of public authority. btw - i am thankful i am white. you aren't going to dumb me down america. i go with the truth - regardless if its politically correct or not.
@jcruenv I understand what brienbart was doing, he was telling the NAACP instead of focusing on the tea party, take a look at your audience laughing in this video that was given to me. He didn't do any of that, in my opinion, this was a smear campaign. It just backfired on him, O'Rielly, and some of the people on Fox News.
You may wish to start before 17.07 in order have the opportunity to understand the context of the comments. At minimum, I would suggest starting at 15.50.
I have been listening to this video & I still have some concerns. Ms. Sherrod clearly has made racist comments throughout the speech. Some of her language would be quickly and irrefutably be considered racist from a white person. There are clearly racist people in all ethic groups throughout the world including the US, but we must stop referring every issue as racist. I should be able to strongly disagree with ANY official (white, black, Republican, Democrat, etc) with being considered racist.
Mrs Sherrod is no rascist, she told a story about a lesson she learned from 1987..c'mon, 23 years ago, she had some crazy ideas, she saw the error of her ways and changed...this is a triumphant story, a story of people coming together and learning from eachother...in case u didnt catch it, she made amends to the farmer, and admitted a paradigm shift in her thinking...its not black vs white..its haves vs have nots...and its the oldest struggle in our history!
@mccalltrader yes she was a racist! Not now but was, but she is no hero!!!!!!!!!!!! i seen the clip and she said some disturbing things that if it were a white man saying those stupid ass things, at the end he would not of been a hero like the the media is portraying. she was a racist working for the government period! she's got to go!
The part in which she says that she did not help one person as much as she could is the issue. Regardless of race, if your representing the government and helping people you can't have that attitude. She should have just kept that part to herself
MrBladeCrash 3 months ago

Mrs. Sherrod is such a classy, outstanding woman that set such a positive example for people of all races.

agreed until the end Obama, he is for banks... look at the things he has done..

BumbleBeeBeeze 1 year ago 2
Originally, the term racist was meant to indicate that one side was accusing the other of being racist, but once it was noticed that people only resorted to this tactic when all other arguments had been exhausted, it acquired its new meaning of “indicating one’s own concession of defeat.”
freedompatriot1 1 year ago 2
@freedompatriot1 lol you could of just said race card or some new word one would use when a black person dares to speak about racism, because we know once that happens-others may look at it as a concession of defeat.

racist – A statement of surrender during an argument. When two people or disputants are engaged in an acrimonious debate, the side that first says “Racist!” has conceded defeat.
That said, they have no further legitimate argument to make in their own defense.
It's ignorance and one of the reasons why they play the victim.
freedompatriot1 1 year ago
@freedompatriot1 That could be true. However, to say it is consistently true is pure ignorance. Because what you are essentially saying is that racism does not exist. Not only is that ignorant...but exceptionally hilarious.

Breitbart needs to be repudiated for his racism.
wildgift2 1 year ago 7
@wildgift2

TheGrasspond 1 year ago

Then at 24:25, she goes off on political crap and playing the race card about how Republicans are "racist" for oposing Obama. wow, andrew breitbart is dishonest. her story of not giving her all at first in helping the white farmer was given with a smile of embarrassment and she talks of how the injustice with which the white farmer was treated moved her to overcome her resentment of white people - which stemmed from racism and prejudice she experienced as a child. thus, her observation that the primary goal is to help the poor, not just black people.

Ms. Sherrod should have been fired simply for stating that she would favor south georgia over north Georgia when deciding what people and or projects get funded. This statement is by itself a firing offense that has nothing to do with whether or not she is a "nice" lady. As a black activist, she had no business being a supervisor in the government.
MrFreeLibertarian 1 year ago

We all have past we must deal with, but life goes on...taking our sorrow and anger out on other people doesn't make us any better, does it...and it took her 45 years to realize all that...sad...

It's time to move past this black vs white group-think.
tyer5396 1 year ago 2

This woman is clearly denouncing her own racist inclinations. If anyone says she's a racist then they're probably Bill O'Reilly or Rush Limbaugh.
Our media system will try to divide us anyway they can for their own gain. But we know better.......... don't we?

This video starts out with Shirley Sherrod talking about racism she was exposed to as a child, and the murder of her father at 17 yrs old at the hands of a white man. Now back in the 60's these were peoples attitudes....now, in 2010, Shirley Sherrod, has grown to fully appreciate the predicament of all people, She realizes that it's not a matter of white vs black anymore but a agonizing over the haves and the havenots!
she's has come a long way baby! I'd hope to have Shirley on my team!
jkj92200 1 year ago 2
@jkj92200 Shirley has NOT overcome her racist leanings. Finish the video and hear her call people who want to make their own decisions in health care "racists" This and things she has recently said in the media that if you dont agree with her political views you are "RACIST" that my friend is not a woman who has seen the light!
quickboat22 1 year ago
@jkj92200 I will agree that she has come a long way based on her speech, but she is still accusing people of being racist just because they disagree with a policy (Large Government and Government run healthcare) I hope people of all racists can look at this situation and start to get past the horrible things of the past and realize every issue in not about race.

"White man", "his own kind", "black and white", "rich and poor" she is Obama, have a ax to grind that life is unfair call Shirley. Who over reacted? Obama, take it up with him, if the WHITEHOUSE, can be "duped" by a video what else are they being duped over?

@cmv1202
The racism shown by Shirley clearly reflects that of the NAACP's.

What did Obama do? He is not even involved with the controversy. It was Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack who fired her. I think more people WANTED Obama to speak up about the issue.

klg1956 1 year ago

She should have started her speech by saying nothing about color and just say it was about the poor people and then she may of still had a job!
blurr3d1 1 year ago
@blurr3d1
No I did not notice reinforcing hate of a white people .
Joeybsmooth 1 year ago
@blurr3d1 The speech does not reinforce hatred. It merely starts of by setting the context of the 1940s and 1950s with regard to race relations at the time. I suppose you would like everyone to forget about what happened in those days. If we all forget about our history, we are bound to repeat the same mistakes. The speech goes on to tell how Shirley's mental race barriers were broken down, as she matured, which is why she is being begged to take a job to root out racism that still exists.
zqbogus 1 year ago
@blurr3d1 Did you listen to the entire speech? If you did, than you would understand why she started it off like that. No different than the movie "American History X" If you were to watch the first 30 minutes of the movie and take it for face value, then you would think it was a racist movie. And by the way, she was offered another job and received an apology from numerous people, including Bill O Reilly. Why?
Ramel34 1 year ago
@blurr3d1
give me a break. just because you have the attention span of a rock doesn't mean the rest of us have to have everything dumbed down. a majority of the speech was the STORY of her moral development, moving past racism, to come together and see it as a class issue. Your comment is the perfect example of how stupid our media and consumption of media has gotten: basic soundbites instead of real understanding of context and telling stories! Listen to the entire thing please.
1978Autodidact 1 year ago
@blurr3d1... I never thought I would say this, but I would have to say that what you've stated really shows that racism still lives in America. To understand where someone is going or where they are in life, you must know where they've come from. The starting of her speech was to make the children in the audience know that people like her have paved the way for them to do better in life.
sthompson5 1 year ago
@blurr3d1... Yes, the "other than white" president we have now has done the same as well and I'm glad he has because this country has too many "must be white" mentalities amongst the minority people to get anything done. Her speech was awesome and it will motivate A LOT of poor, minority Americans that listen to it. If you've never been discriminated against because of the color of your skin, you definitely have no comment about the reinforcement of the hating of white's.
sthompson5 1 year ago
@blurr3d1... What race barrier's have been broken down over and over??? The only thing I see on TV is a country that oppse the "other than white" president we have and don't even realize if the president looks bad, this whole country looks bad. How is this woman a racist when the farmer's "own kind" didn't help him out??? The "colored" woman did!
sthompson5 1 year ago
@blurr3d1... I'm glad this speech has come out in full. Now Americans can see this country isn't what it's all cracked up to be and that racism is still alive otherwise she wouldn't have lost her job in the first place!
sthompson5 1 year ago
@blurr3d1 Is she not allowed to talk about how her father died?

@blurr3d1 Did you notice the edit when it came back to everyone laughing? Wonder what was said then? After all there are many many many rich black people, including her!

@blurr3d I don't think racism went anywhere since those times. I think that with the change in times folks just had to be smarter about how the display their racism.

@FrankTuckerJr Yes, you are right, they cut that video big time. She was going off on a tangent about the race of the lawyers and race of the farmets. I dont get why people try to ignore the past...
mawkdawg 1 year ago
@woodywoodify maybe youre uncomfortable hearing about the past -perhaps you feel some guilt or shame when hearing the "way things were" -we DO need to be more accountable for what happens in our community but this clearly is NOT an example of that. PS Woody if your "part" black or ALL black like me does not clear you of self hatered -type "black girls white dolls" in the search field and figure out how self-aware you are.
