Hey Rob007, the song is reaching out to people who feel alone. If you are one of them, go to a coffee shop, a pool hall, a karaoke bar, whatever...there are people out there who need your company. If that's not you, I didn't mean to offend....I remember in 1984 in SF when I heard Owner of a Lonely Heart by Yes....described me, but in a coupla days, I met a sweetie in L.A. ...Venice, actually....Baby even the losers (like me) get lucky sometimes....
The me the song seems to be talking about "Existential Alienation" which is just a philosophical way of describing lonlieness, depression and the inability to fit in. The lack of meaningfull relationships and everything that goes with it.
To all those Republicans and so called "Conservative Christians" promoting the persecution of illegal immigrants coming to this land seeking refuge. Especially the ones in Utah enacting laws to villify illegals as subhuman and seeking their deportation. They are kin to the "Priests and Levites who pass the "alien by,left for dead when another "alien" heals his wounds and gives him refuge. Amen to all you "Samaritans" (aliens)
there is one thing I got to say about 50's to 80's rock when ya pit it against the 90's yes I love 90's rock but the sub genres of it in no way in hell can't compete with this heavy metal pitted against 60's and 70's rock this ages better it's smooth way more timeless got great ballads with a mellow soothing that are softly heart felt and soulful and not so much god damn your're not spilling out hearts and guts to the floor viva 50's to 80's rock (excluding metal)on that note
Great song.....Ronnie nails the vocals so good here......Barry's guitar solo is awesome......One of their best tunes for sure......Didn't get much airplay in it's day....Never could understand why....Also from a great album.
@bobbyozb bobby, i agree, i never understood it either. especially now i look back. at it now. these guys were 1 of the most talented bands of thier time hands down. but they never got the push for some reason.
Un golpe brutal para mi el enterarme hoy de la muerte de Roonie Hammond, RIP excelente voz única.(The Atlanta Journal-Constitution del dia 15, aqui me enteré)
Am I right in saying this band developed out of the remnants of that great pop group from the Sixties, Dennis Yost and the Classics Four. I liked all of the hits also like Stormy and Spooky. Thanks for posting this great tune. Check out another album of theirs, A Rock and Roll Alternative. Pure Class
wow!!!!...What a great song and group.I forgot how much I missed them.Thank you so much for posting.ARS brings back alot of happy memories for me,and I'm sure many others as well.
ARS was a very elaborated band into its own search into music because it seems that they never were biased to take borrow from r&b, jazz, blues, pop, country and hard rock. They believed into an authentic movement of 70s after too much water had crossed the river. if you want to teach a good lesson of a quality guide of music for new country pop artists it is necessary to play and teach how to appreciate deeply tha ARS music, otherwise, they would stuck in a moment into their careers.
Hints of Eagles, Steeley Dan, Little River Band, so very good! As is always the case, you never realize how good some of these folks are until you dig into their careers.
I saw them at the Iowa state fair. They did a good job, however it is not the same without the original lead singer. I think the only original member left is the keyboard player who wrote the song, "I'm so into you". Their recordings are so great!
Just a note. J.R Cobb is one of the premier musicians around.Got to vist the ARS in the studio a couple of with my friend Sid White. Lived in Bham, Al then and worked.for the Police Dept Would do see them everytime they were In B'ham J.R was a super guy and so was Barry. Two of the best guitarists in the world
Ronnie Hammond s voice is something that it is very hard to find among too much crap that music industry has today. ARS was a band very genuine sophisticated into its sound without losing radical position into rock. Remember, they were coming finishing a background into the 60s being composers and sessions musicians.
I think this alanta rhythm section song called alien is a really good song you downloand it to your real-player and you can click to download song to real-player it's real easy to do
@MANHATTANBEEFMAN They were one of the best bands of the 70s. I saw them at Grant Field, with the Doobie Brothers and Santana and they were outstanding. I love this song and so many more. They were so very much under appreciated, as are so many things from the South.
The sun just went behind a cloud again Down crowded streets he walks alone He's a stranger out of place A number not a face And all day long, all day long (CHORUS) He's feelin like an alien Feelin like he don't belong Have mercy, cried the alien Help him find his way back home
The feelin that he feels he can't explain Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, they're all the same He's lost and all alone A heart without a home Standin like a statue in the rain (CHORUS) Now, now and then we all are aliens Feelin like we don't belong Have mercy, cried the alien Help him find his way back home Feelin like an alien Hes feelin like he don't belong Have mercy, cried the alien Help him find his way Help him find his way
this song really rock's happened to the good old time's when they played this it's too bad that they don't make that song any I tryed to look it up on I tunes they only have one song that is the same artis group that they had for a really long time it's maybe years ago that they really made this song boy dose this ever breing back memory's it is sure is good to play the song over and over again once you heard the song befor in a really long time I use to have the CD of the 80's music
your right nacnud.I was around in the 70's and 80"s and liked these guys. With youtube I haave rediscovered them and now realize what a great band I missed, never saw them.Guitar player is great!
Why can't bands that are original like this be found anymore that have real talent instead of just cranking up the distortion and screaming into the microphone? I have always been around music and I am so dicouraged by today's crap. This is a wonderful band, saw them at Grant Field in 1977. Those were the days to be a teenager in Georgia!
I feel ya me too I don't know what the talent is behind using auto tune and crap like that is all about. It's like Manilli Vanilli all over again but more advanced twist on the scam of hiding behind smoke and mirrors unlike these auto tune Jack offs. I actually feel bad for all those involved in that whole Manilli Vanilli thing (except the music industry) of course I'm defiantely discouraged by todays crap too and it's way more then just auto tune.
hell my friends kids can crank up the distortation and scream into a mic you think my friends kids could get a record deal lol. I'm defiantely discouraged by todays crap too the writing is so poor it makes old Madonald look as classic as this song. the artists are not talented
theres one thing that has me racking my brains is how some people in our generation get into songs like single ladies I saw a 40 yr old balding man blairing that I had this wtf look on my face yelling turn dat shit down

I love this tune. Man, what a singer. I love the lead vocal. A slight nasal quality to his vocals and yet very strong, full and masculine. great harmonies. these guys are such pros. so polished. the lead guitar is some of the most lyrical and powerful i've ever heard. what a guitarist!. what a vocalist! what harmonies! great rythm! great production. exceptional.one of my all time favorites. It seemed like they only played this song on the radio for only a month, then never played it again,
But it really struck a chord with me and never forgot it.
It brings back so many memories, mostly bad because of what I was going through at the time.
Probably because I felt I was the alien in the song. It was a very lonely time in my life.
