CAPGEMS - Mme Nikolaeva would have played it as robustly as you wish for, but the manner of recording was probably due to the taste and fancy of the recording engineer/s at the time. I love the effortless fluency and atmospheric presence of her playing (I have 5 CD's but not this one). I find myself saying "Yes!" while she is playing.
