A prime example of mudering a probably underrated, certailnly underappreciated foreign anime! The plot was screwed up, the true essence was taken away, and all I could think of would be the "Battle Of The Planets" for the 1980's. However, I've read that the Americans who bought the rights to King Beast Golion didn't really know how to translate the japanese into English, and also, much of the footage was probably way too violent for American TV. There were fairly strict censorship rules about children's programming in the US, particularly in the 80's.

But sadly the new version isn't a Japanese anime like the original, but rather is an American (just look at the way the people are drawn) style which at best attempts to MIMIC the anime style (like Ben 10). The original Voltron (or any version made by Japanese artists, and coming out of professional anime studios in Japan) is the only good version.

This is ludicrous! WEP attempts to connect Golion and Dairugger, but it's impossible for Galaxy Garrison to help the space explorers as the Alliance can only sit around, and we'd have to wait for more action in the even more inferior Vehicle Voltron! Instead of an Alliance, originally Golion started with the fact that the West and East forces of Earth killed each other through nuclear war, and the dead planet exploded in Episode 20.  Alliance, my ass!

@KhanKharma This "Voltron" cartoon was cobbled together and altered from a Japanese cartoon called "GoLion". I've been watching the original and it's interesting how much is different. The original is far more bleak in it's story. Many of the scenes you see at the beginning is actually Earth being destroyed and the location where the 5 pilots are captured in the start is also Earth. In the original there is no WEP and the planet Arus (Altea) was defeated 15 years ago when the princess was born.

TY so much 4 posting this. brings back soooo many memories of my childhood. Voltron was b4 Thundercats and power rangers. But it came after Starblazers (aka Spaceship Yamato) and the ORIGINAL G-Force battle of the planets. those cartoons were the template for the transformers and the power rangers.
