okey...the idea is that water can EVAPORATE...even if it isn't heated it can still evaporate...so there might be an error...and also...water has a very small density in comparrison with Hg...so if there are about 2 cm variation it might give you a very small pression variation...there you go...20 mmHg are equivalent with about 272 mm H2O...you want your own forecast?...try something else then water...
@winnetounsoci water an not escape a solid object.. your theory is somewhat correct but if you have a water bottle exposed to sunlight water will not go through plastic..it may steam but the plastic atoms are to compact to let water out of it.. same with the bottle
@tdstudd1996 so you say that the water in the barometer is closed inside the whole system...that it doesn't comunicate with the exterior atmosphere?...you don't understand...it says it is a barometer...okey....so....the atmospheric pressure pushes down the water column in the reversed bottle...air can pass trough somewhere okey?...i mean...it must pass in order to function properly...but...if water vaporizes...then couldn't those vapors pass trough the same exit?...
