  • I can see how this was considered the MMA for the people of the 1930's-50's.

  • Its sad that all we have of real skillful pro wrestling by real sportsmen are these 1950s and before clips. After that the cheap gimmicks for a cheap thrill and buck destroyed the sport with kicks, punches, outside interference, foreign objects, blind refs , using the ropes, rock music etc, which caterr to the comic mentality of little boys.

  • One excellent, clean, fight. Great to watch. Red could've used the bottom rope to get out of trouble on the deck, but not once did it. As I wrote, an excellent fight. You're a gem for finding it and a double gem for uploading the video.

  • good match

  • Red is my great uncle and he is a great guy!

  • @LiveLoveMakeup129 I bet he is. He certainly could wrestle. See my comment re. this fight.

  • @LiveLoveMakeup129 I LOVE OLD SCHOOL WRESTLING, red is one of the best i heard he wasn't feeling well hope he feels better, did he tell you any stories of any shoot matches he had over the years?

  • a breath of fresh air

  • I met Red Bastien when he was wrestling in Dallas, now he has Alzheimers.

  • @mrbluto3 you sill ahve to respec the what the man was and did for the sport

  • @mrbluto3 you still have to respect the man for what he did and is. my uncle wrestled with red and he is agreat guy

  • @mrbluto3 I know it's pretty sad. I seen Red at a benefit last week, and someone gave him a picture to autograph... he must of looked at the picture for about 3 minutes, and then he fianally said, "That's Me", and then it took him another 4-5 minutes to sign it. Still a great man, no matter what.

  • alcoderyjr you can say that AGAIN !!

  • wrestling fans then wanted to see a "real" show, or as real as it could get, these men really knew how to wrestle, real or staged, unlike today where's it's all steriods, and stunts, and play acting, the pro wrestlers today would not even try this, without their stunts, scripts, steriods they are nothing, and even with it, today is a gay bondage freak show.

  • stumbled upon this... wow, if wrestling was like this today I'd watch it. Not scripted rubbish with the obligatory bad boy/good boy images, and they were even good sports judging by Verne patting Bastein on the back after the bout. Nice stuff!

  • Another awesome match, don't know why I didn't see this one before

2:30 notice Gagne doesn't flop around hamming it up outside after he takes a spill

5:37 Bastien almost yanks his own arm off trying to hiplock Verne over

  • Oh baby. Talk to me. This is perfect!! Wrestling in the ole town tonight.

  • Pretty funny to watch Verne apply that Haas of Pain about eight minutes in.

Bastien reminds me of Bryan Danielson.

    Great technical bout.

  • This is great seeing my favorite wrestlers from the seventies in their early days, Red Bstien and Verne Gagne. Priceless stuff!

  • Is this the same Red Bastien that trained the Warrior and Sting?

  • That's the same Red Bastien, all right.

  • I can clearly see y pro wrestling was thought 2 b real back then. I wonder how many wrestlers 2day could deliver such a performance, not 1 kick or punch thrown throughout this bout, Gagne's & Bastien's timing was absolutely impeccable!

  • @alcorderyjr ALOT OF THE CONTACT IS REAL ESPECIALLY BACK IN THESE DAYS.

  • good wrestling: they knew how to apply the holds to advantage then

  • Great clean match! Thanks for posting!

  • Is this old DuMont network footage?

  • Thanks for the posting.Top class tough professional wrestlers
