This is still my favorite video on youtube! and its been a year! hahaha, by the way i loved the first wives club musical! i really do hope they take it to broadway! all i have now is my little bootleg of the the show to llisten to XD
No, I was not holding back. I've never held back a performance in my life. I have heard this comment about not being able to hear me so many times it is maddening!! I am busting my ass and my chops to give all I have and singing at the top of my lungs and I keep hear that the mix is off. Meanwhile, when I've heard a recording of the show twice, I hear myself fine. So I don't get it. hmmm....
Thanks for the update. It's like a real-time convo. I was thrilled with your performance. . .please don't get me wrong. I think you're right that the mix is just bad. I felt a definite difference between the end of the first act and the top of the second act levels-wise. When you were hitting those notes on the stairs, I wanted to feel them in my nether regions, but I had to strain to hear them. And were in the center section. Do they adjust for the blue hairs?!
We have excellent sound people and sound design. I think it's the house. It's meant to be a Shakespearean thrust stage not a procenium stage and apparently it causes all kinds of problems with musicals. Gets muddy, etc. OY! It makes me mad to think that I am not heard. I am singing my tuchis off!!
And yes, Sara Chase is brilliant. Strangely, most people don't know she is playing all 3 women until the very end. Which baffles me. It is such a clever theatrical device - something that the theatre can provide that you don't get in other medium. And it is also so metaphoric. She is comic gold! I love her!
As we were walking out, I overheard people conversing about why she was carrying wigs out on stage for her bow. . .and then realizing she may have played those roles. Wow. I honestly wish there was a way to tell the audience that she is is playing all three "replacement/villains." It's a testament to her skill that the audience doesn't realize it.
Please let her know she has a new fan! Everyone was simply a joy to watch. You looked as though you were having a great time!
I wish they had written the recording studio into the book as the space that becomes the Center. In the film, the Center was almost the fourth woman, it was Cynthia reborn. In the stage version, it should be a "space" the audience has come to know as well. Since we only see the warehouse in the end of the second act, it is forced and rushed. The recording studio is mentioned in the first act and we see it early in the second, and therefore, the audience has become familiar with the locale.
And why does Miss Matlock need to fall? Are audiences these days that dumb?? Another moment, ruined. Let her stand and sing, and imply that she commits suicide, then let the book tell us she did.
Just caught the show tonight. . .thought there is actually a good show in there somewhere. Maybe some different direction?!
Some nips and tucks, a few rewrites, and please, oh please, lose the window-washer effect. A simple silhouette projection would have given us a faster movement and a less obvious and ridiculous moment.
God I love you! And Sheryl is gorgeous. Love the line about gaging the audience by the laugh the furniture gets. Very funny. And probably true. And how fantastic to sing from Dreamgirls with Sheryl Lee Ralph. So fun and funny.
There should never be a Broadway season without Sam Harris starring in a show. Or a TV season. Or a recording season. Can't get enough ever! People think these vlogs are great, for those of us who've seen him in concert . wow wow wow nothing like it in the world. He is the best. No one compares.
I went backstage the other week during rehearsal for Shakespeare Intensive and passed by your dressing rooms. It was a Monday and no one was there...so it wasn't as much fun. I had fun and everything, but I know I would have died if we ran into you backstage chasing Sara Chase or something haha Coming to the show on Saturday evening!
WOW!!!! If only to be there...wow. Sheryl Lee looks great. It can not be over 25 years ago that DREAMGIRLS was on Broadway. She looks goood! Sam sexy as always.

Was there an issue with your mic, or were you simply holding back tonight? The sound design did not do your pipes justice.
If and when the show hits New York, Sara Chase might as well clear her mantle for her Tony. She is amazing. Just sayin'!

There should never be a Broadway season without Sheryl Lee Ralph starring in a musical. Sheryl onstage and God in Heaven. No need to say more. ;)
