  • I remember their holiday specials, especially when they went into color...and didn't they have Singer (the sewing machine maker) as a sponsor? I have to admit, I enjoy the memory and visuals of this show from that time, but it had its place that has passed--I agree, I remember them all as oh-so..."white!," vanilla and corny, from today's perspective. A fun post!

  • This was back when entertainment was truly enjoyable. Thanks, Kings!

  • I couldn't wait for the show every week, wish we still had shows as those times then

  • I was forced to watched this show, along with lawrence welk - traumatic experiences

  • We HATED this show...they were colorless, they were the WHITE in black and white television!

  • I remember seeing the King Family on the Hollywood Palace in late 1964 and then soon after their own show, January 1965. I loved it. They all looked so good. And The King Sisters had the best four-part harmony.

  • I believe Marylin King, the youngest sister is still alive and well and singing in LA.

  • Yvonne King Burch, the last surviving member of "The King Sisters", passed away last week.

  • "THE KING FAMILY" (from the producers of "THE HOLLYWOOD PALACE") first aired in January 1965 as a mid-season replacement for "THE OUTER LIMITS" [Saturdays, 7:30-8:30pm(et)]. While opposite Jackie Gleason on CBS, the Kings were a perfect lead-in to "THE LAWRENCE WELK SHOW", gaining a loyal following (this promo was seen around March '65). However, the network trimmed it to a half-hour, moving it up to 8pm, opposite Gleason and NBC's "I DREAM OF JEANNIE", in the fall. Cancelled in January 1966.
