  • @mrcash193: this video was made in '92. the bridge scene is roosevelt in between canal & state. the shopping scene when they are walking backwards is the old *Ju-Town*. the graphitti scene was the *original graphitti wall of fame* in chicago. underneath roosevelt bridge where he was rapping in the 1st scene mentioned.

  • @DONTHESEAN

Ju-Town no doubt...This dropped my first year in college and everytime I saw this video I wanted to hit the road and come to the crib (NWI, but we always claimed chitown cause IN don't claim us) just to hit up Ju-Town, cop some gear(no taxes luv, thanks to my big bruthas for putting me down when I was young) and snatch up a polish. At least thats still around. UIC made it look nice, but maybe some of us didn't want that. When Hip Hop was Hip Hop!!!

  • chi-town!

  • @JustBlaze besides a few church/religious references in the first verse... Everything else must've went completely over my head. Do tell.

  • @SADMANMUSIC35 Learn your music before you start calling yourself "Sandman Music". That's all I'm saying.

  • big up to this chi town youngsta fresh on the scene. i think common wuz 19 when he recorded this well produced album by the beatnuts. played this joint out when i copped it

  • @SADMANMUSIC35 The Beatnuts produced only 1 song. This was a NoID joint for the most part. This beat was a Twilight Tone/NoID joint. Stop rewriting history.

  • @SADMANMUSIC35 I LOVE when people say "I got shit you haven't heard". Y'all say that because you don't have any real basis. Like I said, the Beatnuts produced 1 (ONE) piece on this album. Everything else was NoID. Stop rewriting history.

  • I can just hear Hi de ho playin after this.....

  • Damn Imagine if he was on a gangsta tip?

  • Why cant now-a-days "rap" be good, clean, and have good beats like this.

  • @boogeyman595 because they are no more MC's only rappers.

"MC's spit lines to uplift your people, rappers spit lines that are mostly illegal" KRS One

  • Oh and by the way, the only people who don't like this are the people who found out about son from movies and his later work.

Where are my older cats that had this and Res. in their walkman's?

  • @DanielDumile i like your username. im a big DOOM fan myself. :)

and i found out about common from the song testify, and at this point he's one of my favorite rappers.

  • This is the FIRST SONG to not get ANY hits until i was COMPLETELY DONE SPELLING IT in the search bar...meaning that this has stayed nice and tucked safe in the underground...no posers playing it out.

I never thought that Rasheed would have made it as big as he has though, good for him, I can't hate!

  • its like seeing that girl in school, you just knew she was going to have a great future but at your high school reunion you see how much she has changed from that girl with beauty and potential to some random prostitute. That is Hip Hop now a days

  • @superkrex funny thing is that regardless of all that, i still love H.E.R =\

  • im sorry...common was garbage when he came out..he didnt get good until like water for chocolate...lets be serious ppl

  • @Lynx10705 He WAS corny on his first album(when his voice would go high - awful), but didn't get good until Like Water? Hell no. Resurrection was dope, and so was One Day It'll All Make sense. Common made one of thebiggest jumps from first album to 2nd album as anyone. Him and Mobb Deep.

  • This is killin 100% of the payola shit on the radio today...And it's 18 years old...

    Classic shit...

  • @keepthapinit couldnt have said it better...dude was bustin!!

  • @djurd001 and make it so bad he didn't adapt the "thug persona" and still blew the backs out of the tightest chicks in the industry...

  • @keepthapinit and he went hard on ice cube lol

  • cool song check this video its called old school rap all stars on the arsenio show

  • Real HipHop... tru that, every week, its a new dance move...

  • "When Will the Day Come" by Rasa.

  • Woooooooooooow! Indeed, hip-hop come back!

  • anyone who say common sucks probably say that every rapper who comes out is "the S**T" and only listens to what the crowd bangs.

  • Common had the lyrics & beats back then which pissed me off that NOONE took him but took those other NON RAPPN FOOLS. Common from the CHI was, I think, a factor for him not blowing up back then. I AM GLAD COMMON IS WHERE HE IS TODAY! FINALLY!! CONGRATS COMMON!!!

  • oh common, where art thou?

  • I read it a lot, people complaining about how different hip hop is now, how much they miss the old stuff, the old scene, the old essence... But I'm from Argentina, I don't know the scene, I don't really know how today's hip hop music is now, I listen to tracks that makes me feel good like this one...

If this is how good the old stuff is then I really understand why people complain... This is beautiful

  • (1:26) UAC FTR chicago RIP SOLEROCKS

  • take it easy... iPhone generation....you have no connection to my 70's babies generation!

  • they dressed so cool back then

  • never liked common and he was corny back on the first album too. dude was a clone and sounded kinda like a fake ass redman here.

  • 1991-94

  • If i culd travel back to the 90's ide never come back to current times

  • mmmm cant believe there was a time when people made this great of music

  • damn man, sweet song, wish i could go back to the 90s :(

  • =) Love It!

  • Man this takes me back to elementary when I used to sport the baggy pants with my hair braided back. LOL! Thank God I grew up & became a woman.

The older you get, the more you change & mature into the person you were meant to be. If we all stayed stuck in the 90's, we'd never progress. It was a golden era to be sure but you can't go back. Every era is different. Common still brings the truth to his tracks but he does it to a different beat that's all. I will love this hip hop forever!

  • @lashunda84 this was shot in the old jewtown

  • Now now just a minute let's just calm down... for Christ's sake let's just take it easy.

  • and a cup?

    naw no time for that

    i'm like an indian giver

    so yo, give that back

  • @chantoke what does that mean regarding a cup

  • God I miss the good ol days.....

  • I would've seriously given my life to hear Common do a song with Nas in these times....even Jay-Z, Big L, or Biggie..man=[

    FUCK JERKIN!

  • @kawz23 how would u hear the song if your dead? lol

  • (C) 1991, 1992 Relativity Records

  • 90s hip hop was the shit, it was hard as hell to determine who was the best lyricist back then, because everybody was bringing they A game in 90s, from nas, AZ , common, mos def , Wu tang & mobb deep. and so many others

  • haha, even common used to do that fast rap style...this takes me back..

  • ahhhh yea. real niice. Common Sense keepin me real EZ regardless of the stresses.

  • nah you guys got it all wrong he didn't switch his flow he just grew up man

  • @lrYaN1994 for real man

  • what is this? : (

  • You know how many underground hip-hop fans got pissed when Common switched up his style? Do you think he cared? He was making money.

  • common aint switch his flow. common spit that real shit not that shit everyone talk about oh i dunno guns, drugs, how many bitches they got. just sayin..

  • Of course he switched it, this isn't even an opinion, you can obviously tell he switched it. Listen to this, then I Used to Love H.E.R. (which is one of my favorite songs by him), see how different he is there. His persona changed from a wild, crazy Das EFX like rapper to a smooth, calm, more emotional, poetic Common.

  • that boi 2Dishe just spoke the truth....new age pay it some mind

  • 90s music man

  • man 90s had real music...now all we got is a new dance move everweek

  • @2Dishe they were making dance moves since the humpty dance cant hate i dont like the new rap at all then what moves would we use at the club?

  • @2Dishe this is fucking dance music too you dumb ass.

  • 3:12-3:14 yodalayheehoo..LOL dats wasup

  • kajtomc this was back when common was underground how dare you rep mainstream.... that's the type of hip hop that killed the genre

  • hip hop, in its essence and real.

  • that's a solid 4 minutes of smooth rhymes. nuff said.

  • nuff.. fuck'n.. said..

    -.-

  • ahahaha look a Common i like him without that big beard he got now her was cute

  • HIP HOP was fun back then!! for real

  • Back when there were many rhymestyles and Emcees with the mic skills with lyrics.

  • common 16 years ago...holy shit hahah this is tight

  • 17 haha

  • oh yeah...haha

  • This iz King Muzik!

  • this was common at his best time, love this track... but i don'tlike his music anymore, just ain't feelin' it anymore..

  • y because hes gotten more poetic. when he first started he was on real hip hop shit, which is heat but he has only gotten more poetic, with the exception of his latest album

  • there's substance now in his music. It ain't the candy music sort of rap; bitches, bling, and stuff.

  • get this spam outta here...

    -.-

  • @MFSilverOxide

You a damn lie.Common raps about the world in his own perspective.Sure he might have mentioned bitches, hoes, and hustlin but he didn't dedicate a whole song, or verse to any one topic.

  • Heidi Hoe was a graphic, vulgar and puerile description about his lack of respect of women who don't have self-respect for themselves.

The Hustle was self-descriptive; Common's throws verses describing about how people hustle in the hood.

Tekzilla was narrative about Common facing an eminent drive-by shooting and how he was going to pistol whip the perpatrator out.

  • @MFSilverOxide Your talking about songs that he did when he was younger. Is he saying the same shit now?

  • @MFSilverOxide wow very perceptive I understood heidi hoe and the hustle but not tekzilla , i thought he was kinda talkin shit like a rapper wannabe in tekzilla so I kinda always hated the song

  • you see the style then..very simular to L.O.T.N.S..good days then

  • I like this original common before he went emotional and all that.

  • im easy like sunday morning

  • i love 3:10

  • i used to love H.E.R.

  • listen to that jazz sample.. dope!!!

  • common with the sence

  • FREEEEESHHHHHHHHHHH

  • OMG... I love this video. It's taking me allllllllllll tha way back to the SOUTHSIDE!!!

  • Im from the south side of chicago 501 come follow me yo everywhere that I go.. Look at Common and De la soul!!!! OMG Common still is fresh today but he was da bomb back then when nobody knew him!!

  • god....takes me back to the 90s.... common was so different back then... hiphop was so different back then... everybody was always comin up w/ new styles of mc'ing, and it was always good to hear something so different and fresh like this.....this is real hiphop.... nowadays everbody sounds the same and talks about the same s#*t.... i miss the 90s...

  • Oh, Hip-Hop...whatever happened to you?

  • Young, fresh and new... ;)
