On the UFO full of sectoids: One time, I got pwned by a huge mob of aliens in a small UFO, got frustrated, and restarted. Not one to be fooled twice, I managed to pull of a maneuver where one of my guys had armed two grenades to detonate in the following round, and I managed to toss both of them into the UFO, and escape with him intact. That's when the game really picked up for me.
I only use HE Ammo and IE ammo for Heavy Cannon / Auto Cannonn and don't bother bringing Rocket Launcer until I got Blaster Launcher. Once I have Heavy Plasma I just save all the Heavy Plasma Clips I can. I save my Flying Suits for high ranked soldiers, giving nothing or Personal Armor to all rookies. My Sergeant will stay back with Flying Suit and Blaster Launcher, nuking any opposition, LoL. By the way, how do you record your gameplay?
You hadnt played this game too long when this was filmed, had you? As the first casualty was walking along the wall, I thought, "what, he's not going to have her look through the window to see if there's anyone in the building?" Sure enough, she eats it that same turn...from inside the building. And that shot by Deiter was good, but wake me up when your shot goes from outside a building, through a window, through the building, out the far window, and hits the target. I love doing that.
From watching all the X-Com gameplay vids, you can see why people think this game is too hard! I mean this player sends a soldier past a window without stopping to look inside the building where it's all shadow! That's a basic, my friend! :) Also, put soldiers behind walls, not beside them! They may be rookies but the deserve a good general! :)
No kidding. And what's with the Normandy Beach tactics? One good nade at the beginning of the clip would have taken out 10-12 grunts! Has this guy ever heard of spacing?
I think the term that best describes your deployment and perimeter tactics would be "swiss cheese". Or, alternatively, "I pray the aliens aren't sporting any grenades, rockets, and aren't behind me. Not that I'm going to bother to check."
Also, if you go over the video carefully, that alien in the far corner (the 2nd contact) was visible in the shadow when you moused over it. You should have noticed that, given that I did.

Well would be appropriete too use better Ground Tactics.
TheseShoot through window thing... just don't put them were they can be shot. Back them up, establish perimeter etc.. :D
