We've had two dogs, both were very patient and tolerant of our children as babies. The Lab was patient, but our Akita/Golden Retriever mix would protect and guard them. Most dogs, no matter what breed, know instinctively that this human is defenseless and needs protection...with the exception of some unfortunate news reports of dogs attacking children.
how old was your lab here? mine is almost 9 months and he doesn't plays gently with kids or other dogs, he gets al excited :( and they are afraid of him, is he ever gonna be like this? i see all this videos of calm labs mine is nothing like that, help i want him to be like that
He is 10 years old now, so he's 7 in this video. Believe it or not, he was still fairly excitable, even at 7 years, but Maggie could do ANYTHING to him. Now her baby sister is doing the same thing to him. :-)
@pearlita12345 - Labs can stay "puppylike" for about 5 years. If your pup displays behavior that you do not want, then do not accept it (do not yell or hit the dog), take the steps to train the dog and reinforce the good behavior you desire. Take him to a good obedience school, it is a real eye opener. I learned way more than the pup did and we are much closer for having gone through the school. Be calm and consistent (and good luck).
i know this vid is cute 'but' (big word for three letters), but, you just dont know for sure if a dog will turn on a child. you just dont know, and saying sorry just is not enough if it does happen... (sorry to be a party popper!).
Angus is playing up the martyr thing a little, no? Look at those long-suffering eyes! He's angling for something from the dinner plate I think. Labs aren't as thick as they want us to think.
Labs are the most wonderful dogs with children - so patient and mellow. Maggie is a darling baby girl - so tiny and it is so sweet watching her move about the ottoman. Your dog is gorgeous and I know he would protect and defend Maggie with his life.
@Lonestarry A dog is a DOG - and nothing more! Please, remember that. Not a "nanny" nor "a baby"! Personifying them is very dangerous. There are over 28,000 people bitten by their faces by dogs every year in the UK! See the facts for yourself: ukandspain(dot)com/dangerous-dogs/
