this song... it's weird to describe. I absolutely love it. but how to describe it. It sounds like a sad song, but in the sense that the extreme inner pain it gives off will lead to something new and beautiful and amazing in the distant future. This song, along with ones to rock along with like "Even Flow" just make this a feel good album. It makes me want to cry away any pain. It should be used in a movie.
this song means alot to me... its been almost 10 years since my dad left, and this song just really helps me because i wish he could just see me now, the way i am, the ways i've changed, everything... but sadly thats impossible, because once somebody's gone, they're gone. this is probably one off my favorite pearl jam songs. i sing it every night hoping my dad will hear me... peal jame 4 life \m/
I cannot get enough of this song...I really need it right now.
I was oh so fortunate to hear it live once over six years ago...PJ opened w/ it...what an emotional and wonderful start to the show...I still clearly remember how I felt and how the people around me reacted.
i just cant listen to this song without shedding a tear or three..i keep trying but it just keeps happening.i never realized how much i have in common with them.i have crohns like mccready the lead guitar.im in a simaler boat as eddie there music is me...i never new it until 3 night ago i watched there doc,pj 20 seattle.something has opened up in me.i have 2 sons i have missed and tried to find for over 9 yearsor more.crohns may kill me b4 my time...please god let me see them again.TY .PJ .LPH
This is the ONLY song that's ever made me cry. It speaks to me like nothing else ever. If I ever got to meet Pearl Jam, I wouldn't know how to thank them for the impact they have had on my life. I love this band, and this song is without doubt one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. I love all the positive comments and I think it's wonderful that there are people such as myself who love Pearl Jam so much. Keep on rocking brothers and sisters.
When you've had a six pack of beer and your mind is detached from all the hoopla of everyday life and you listen to this song, this song can cause even the most cynical of us to ask God to give us a clue as to why we are here, what its all for. I can only wish that we all get an answer and find inner peace.
@nnnnnate no doubt, Ten is one of the all-time greats.. the only rock album (of the 90s) that I thought was better, was 'Siamese Dream'.. but that's just my perspective as a fan. Pearl Jam could never follow up Ten tho, 'Vs.' was strong, but still a downgrade from 'Ten', and then everything they released after that, in my opinion, was garbage anyways, peace
Pearl Jam at their absolute best. Nothing but power and raw emotion. There is no rock singer on earth that could have pulled this off but Vedder. The low notes resonate in your bones, and the highs convey pain and yearning like few vocal performances I have ever heard. One of the best rock songs of the 90's IMHO, even if it wasn't a radio track.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this is grunge music? it's lame, it's gay. it's boring. i almost fell asleep. i didn't feel like i wanted to smash my guitar, and the singer doesn't sound like somebody who has tourette's syndrome. i was expecting to hear something like that of Nirvana's. It's pearl jam members who should have died. Not cobain.
@bonditinkitaeh it's not grunge music it's pearl jam. people who evaluate music based on labels not its sound should not be allowed to criticize and where do you get off wishing somebody's death cause they didn't subscribe to musical taste? if you want to blame anyone for cobain's death blame the guy who told him that deep throating a shot gun was a good idea. im not saying you have to like pearl jam, im just saying the whole way you go about slandering them is wrong.
For anybody that thinks like this, realize that grunge is just a stupid fucking label that true fans of Cobain would fight to extinguish and extinct, because Nirvana was about playing, having fun, raw emotion, being honest in your music and not selling out. Some would argue that Pearl Jam sold out. I would argue that their music is amazing. I love both of them. Cobain was genius, PJ is intricate. Both are amazing and talented.
@TheAnalyticalFailure i haven't seen that other guys comment, but ill believe hes trolling if your reply is a top comment, but I love a little grunge rock. Soundgarden is my favorite especially, though im still a lot more into punk rock.
just thought you'd like to know that the second part of this song is a hidden track called master/slave. itunes has an updated set of this album with master/slave designated as a separate song and the song is also on the remastered version of ten. anyway, just thought you'd like to know, don't mind me.
Listened to this song for the first time in ages, and it made me realize something. It's time to come clean. I have been a die hard PJ fan for almost twenty years, but deep deep deep down inside I always waited for them to release an album that has the same feel and raw emotion "Ten" had. But they never did. Don't get me wrong, I love the albums they released since, but that super extraordinary crazy magic formula of "Ten" is lost forever. Just listen to this song!! It's so good it's scary!
@tommysheep76 Well because maybe it was not one of their greatest hits. Now if it was greatest songs of Pearl jam, then it would belong on that record.
I bought this album when I was 13 years old after hearing Alive on the radio. Loved it especially the big hits, but it was when I heard this song, the album closer, that I knew I had purchased one of the all-time greatest rock albums. This is still one of my favorite songs ever, absolute classic.
This album was playing when I shaged my girl and earned my right to be called a man!!! Saw her 7 years later and we hit it off again but this time it wasnt childs play!! lol
In my opinion, this one of the best albums out there. You very rarely find an album where every tune is brilliant. Let alone a first album! This is one of the choice few.
i love that tune at the beginning and end of the cd its awesome so trippy i used to sit around and listen to that one tune at the beginning and end of this cd while i took acid and just sat in my car smoking weed hahaha good times
One of the great bands of the 90's.
