more smooth music from my time the great 70s. Times were simpler, and you had a lot of fun. When I was a teenager we listen to music that didn't degrade females; I'm sorry that rap shit has it's place but not when it come's to romance
never am i in doubt about this MUSIC lord what happened why did we stry were we a lot happier then and dont they say musci soothes the average beast well maybe the change in venue have evloled us into this sometimes peice of crap wae have become Allah forbid but of course Gods books are even better
i love how some songs say the things we want to but just cant put it together after i left my wife i gave her a cd with only this song she still doesn't get it be yourself stop trying to be who you are not and maybe ill stay
I don't know what it is about this song , but it always makes me feel sad. Don't get me wrong, this was the cut when came out , but as I've gotten older, it effects me that way .I still love it though .
I was talking to my wife about this earlier today. Its a really sad song lyrically and I think the music is supposed to be a bit uplifting in contrast. Sly is a genius but at the same time a broken man, most of his family is estranged to him due to his wild lifestyle and illicit drug use in the past. I think this song exemplifies this notion... If you want me to stay, I'll be around today, To be available for you to see,I'm about to go, And then you'll know, For me to stay here I got to be me.
Deep. Basically "Will you wait for me to become a better man? I truly hope so cuz thats just about an impossible feat right now"
My daddy was a bit of a rolling stone so I can definitely relate to what he's saying. I dunno, maybe I'm reading too much into the lyrics but this is what I get from this song.
Sly & The Family Stone,The Temptations,The Friends Of Distinction,The 5th Dimension,Marvin Gaye,Blood Sweat Tears,Three Dog Night,Janis Joplin,Neil Diamond,Tom Jones, and Others. These were the singers and performers that invoked strong deep down emotion in me during the late 60s and early 70s.
Great tune from the Vallejo, Ca. brother. Got a little loused up on smack, but hope that's all history. What a talent; killed 'em at Woodstock and for a long time after. Go on, you bad brother............ hf
The attack on the electric piano always throws me for a loop. You think thats the organ and the piano at the same time? Its like a reverse crescendo on the electric piano. So funky. One of my all time faves.
Probably the particular take of the song. During this period sly was a little crazy editing all the songs numerous times, therefore you can hear a slight hissing noise in the background of many tracks, which is a sort of scar on the master tracks due to his relentless perfectionism.
I don`t think the take is different, I just think it wasn`t transferred well as the instrumental backing sounds thin and hard to hear. This song and Hot Fun In The Summertime to me are the ultimate examples of FUNK. Great song...

Just a fun fact this song was actually written as an apology to Kathleen Silva after a fight, before she and Sly were actually married.

Fantastic song... A downside of the compressed MP3 age is that one can't seem to hear the real penetrating bass on any of the You Tubes.

Does he say 'I'm through, baby' at the end? If so, does he mean he's through with the girl or through singing the track?
Anyhow, tight track. I love that scene in Dead Presidents when 'young blood' comes back from nam and walks into the poolhall with this bumping..
