  • more smooth music from my time the great 70s. Times were simpler, and you had a lot of fun. When I was a teenager we listen to music that didn't degrade females; I'm sorry that rap shit has it's place but not when it come's to romance

  • never am i in doubt about this MUSIC lord what happened why did we stry were we a lot happier then and dont they say musci soothes the average beast well maybe the change in venue have evloled us into this sometimes peice of crap wae have become Allah forbid but of course Gods books are even better

  • i love how some songs say the things we want to but just cant put it together after i left my wife i gave her a cd with only this song she still doesn't get it be yourself stop trying to be who you are not and maybe ill stay

  • The Chili Peppers made me listen to this, I am so glad I did!

  • this is one of the reasons i love the red hot chili peppers-they opened my eyes to so many other amazing genres and musicians

  • Sly and the Family Stone, some of the best shit ever!

  • Apparently, 3 people want him to go.

  • EXACTLY SUMMER FUNK!

  • Just a fun fact this song was actually written as an apology to Kathleen Silva after a fight, before she and Sly were actually married.

  • One of the sexiest songs I've ever heard.

  • dggwrels

    dhhhnstrgfhsjnx chaunta6

  • this song is sooooooooo good !

  • I don't know what it is about this song , but it always makes me feel sad. Don't get me wrong, this was the cut when came out , but as I've gotten older, it effects me that way .I still love it though .

  • I was talking to my wife about this earlier today. Its a really sad song lyrically and I think the music is supposed to be a bit uplifting in contrast. Sly is a genius but at the same time a broken man, most of his family is estranged to him due to his wild lifestyle and illicit drug use in the past. I think this song exemplifies this notion... If you want me to stay, I'll be around today, To be available for you to see,I'm about to go, And then you'll know, For me to stay here I got to be me.

  • I'll be so good

    I wish I could

Get this message over to you now

    When you see me again

I hope that you have been

The kind of person you really are now

Deep. Basically "Will you wait for me to become a better man? I truly hope so cuz thats just about an impossible feat right now"

My daddy was a bit of a rolling stone so I can definitely relate to what he's saying. I dunno, maybe I'm reading too much into the lyrics but this is what I get from this song.

  • @therealkedwards

    i think youre on point

  • Number one gona be number one keep it funky!

  • This is what lil Wayne is trying to sound like. He's not fooling anyone!

  • @Dread315 Tried and failed. Sly's swag is unjackable.

  • @JEDI7ACEN WERD!

  • These guys were like 25 years ahead of their time.

  • Fantastic song... A downside of the compressed MP3 age is that one can't seem to hear the real penetrating bass on any of the You Tubes.

  • Hi Manuel,

Nice song and awesome band !]

    Kisses

    Regina

  • graham was a force on this record

  • @lawyounger just learned that was sly on bass!

  • @lawyounger actually it was Rustee Allen, Larry G's replacement. Sly just said he played all the parts

  • Sly & The Family Stone,The Temptations,The Friends Of Distinction,The 5th Dimension,Marvin Gaye,Blood Sweat Tears,Three Dog Night,Janis Joplin,Neil Diamond,Tom Jones, and Others. These were the singers and performers that invoked strong deep down emotion in me during the late 60s and early 70s.

  • The feelings mutual. Great song.

It took the words right outta ma mouth! :)

    No bs

  • Lol, I can imagine it

  • Great tune from the Vallejo, Ca. brother. Got a little loused up on smack, but hope that's all history. What a talent; killed 'em at Woodstock and for a long time after. Go on, you bad brother............ hf

  • The attack on the electric piano always throws me for a loop. You think thats the organ and the piano at the same time? Its like a reverse crescendo on the electric piano. So funky. One of my all time faves.

  • i love you for posting this baby right here^^

GOD bless and keep it coming#@%&()@#$%

    Popper For Life!!!

  • by far one of the best funk songs of that time the horns on this is great.

  • What a funky cool song. You have such good taste in music.

  • Take me back to the 70's :-)

  • Does he say 'I'm through, baby' at the end? If so, does he mean he's through with the girl or through singing the track?

Anyhow, tight track. I love that scene in Dead Presidents when 'young blood' comes back from nam and walks into the poolhall with this bumping..

    Paz,

    -J.

  • i'm cool, baby

  • I've thought he said "I'm through with it", and Ive wondered that too, is he talking about the song or girl? Lol, I love that line though

  • lol thanks for the reply. It enabled me to listen to this track again (I'm on the third replay). I had almost forgotten I commented on it.

  • Probably the particular take of the song. During this period sly was a little crazy editing all the songs numerous times, therefore you can hear a slight hissing noise in the background of many tracks, which is a sort of scar on the master tracks due to his relentless perfectionism.

  • I don`t think the take is different, I just think it wasn`t transferred well as the instrumental backing sounds thin and hard to hear. This song and Hot Fun In The Summertime to me are the ultimate examples of FUNK. Great song...

  • just the bestest funkin musical organiser ever...

  • this one's a lotta fun to play on the bass ;-)

  • GREAT bass in this song, it's essentially the lead guitar.
