RFK made this speech the day after Dr. King's assassination. He knew that he would become one of the ones taken down by the mindless menance of violence.
Even before MLK's assassination, he told his closest friends, "There are guns between me and the White House." He and Jackie Kennedy predicted his assassination. His campaign aides also knew it was only a matter of time. Evil Lyndon Johnson tried to prevent his burial at Arlington Cemetary. RIP RFK. Your words will never die.
But we always kill the good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok … But we can change it any time we want.Just a simple choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one.
ust tell the truth when I repeat that when someone dares to speak truth to the American people give it a shot in the head, if not so deny me and let the people speak?
I'm so ashamed and disillusioned by humanity; my very core aches beyond my ability to feel - I can't even summon the anxiety to experience the bewilderment.
Its not a plan to take over the world. Now the government lies about communism so that you along with the rest of the public will allow them to go to any country they want and kill millions of people and turn the country into anarchy. This means they earn more power. So its all just one big lie. And they assure that you listen to what they tell you by making you dumb over time, they do that by telling you to look up to idiots like Beiber, Megan Fox, Miley Cyrus, etc. Not the people who.
Almost every great American man in the 20th century was murdered for his beliefs. Unusually, they did not become martyres, their work tended to die with them. Why is this? Only in the usa do assasinations not lead to martyres - seems odd... no?
I hope you know what I mean when I say the sad part of this whole video is that it's perfect. We have to be better then the people who raised us and better then the ones who lead us as we all reach towards, Camelot.
Can you imagine that this speech was made during the 60s and we are still fighting this battle of racism and inequality. When are we going to stop teaching racism and prejudice and start preaching love for one another....
great speech. it's too bad you people drag it down with partisanship. george washington warned us about political parties 240 years ago and look at us now.
Awesome Speech and incredible to listen to. Hey not sure if you all know this but there is a new book coming out in April about this speech. It is published through Hamilton Books and is called, "The Mindless Menace of Violence: Robert F. Kennedy's Vision and the Fierce Urgency of Now." Sounds interesting.
As RFK knew about violence and hate, but he did nothing to protect himself from that violence. In fact he did not want protection, he was fearless if he had been fearful, and careful he might have lived to be president. But they would have killed him anyway because he was so radical for his time just like his brother.

Anyone really interested in Robert Kennedy needs to read "Robert Kennedy: His Life" by Evan Thomas. Its a long read but this man was more complex than anyone could imagine.
I loved that book. Of ALL the Kennedy's I truly believe RFK would've made this a different country if he hadn't been assassinated. Such a beautiful speech that transcends all generational, racial, eocnomic boundaries.
so beautiful, love this video, i just got finished watching bobby, it's a great movie, i think bobby would've made a great president, but i can only think of what could've been, and live in the present, although i wasn't born when he was alive, i feel the magic of what was bobby kennedy.
The u.s.a. could be a great country. It has always had the potential to be great, but it has never succeeded. Too often it has been too slow to help others and too quick to attack what it does not understand. Maybe this one man, Obama, can change this. I hope he does, but he is only one man. We as a people, as a species must change together or we will seperate and kill each other. Let us live in hope, not fear...
@gfnfgr We've had our moments: Our victory in the war for independence, Abraham Lincoln's presidency, the defeat of Hilter....the goodwill our citizens contribute to other countries...the creative and scientific contributions we've given humanity...We've succeeded many times. We've left our mark. Historically, we're on a roll...but you and I both know we have been far from perfect...and the country has gone astray several times in our life time...but never take the good for granted.
im not American but i agree!this what i call a great leader!not bush who seek to make war and poisin the mind of his ppl with hate agianst arabians bush is a big lier!!what happen to all the great leaders in America!!eh
Great Speech Indeed!Great Edit Work also!...Sure Miss Him..He had Feelings why are the best gone?....even Paul Wellstone...i just hope others follow their advice..or else Mindless Menace of Violence grows instead of peace....to me god does not exist if this happends...cause thats not love. Whom would distroy their creation if only a madman would a Menace Of Violence. Long like his Words and this!....Great Clips to this!...Thanks
so sad that gang of mafia thugs hijacked youre government in 1963. cant you do something to erase this mafia crap? and clean up Washington!!.any politicians working in collusion with this gang of filth must be investigated by the Haigue!!
Beautiful...it brings tears to my eyes. I was 10 when JFK was killed--my parents cried;I was 15 when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was killed--my parents were stunned,& I was 15 when Bobby was killed--my parents & I cried. Nobility & courage. Let us not forget. I have seen too much violence & too many people have suffered. We need to never forget those who have given their lives for a better America. Certainly one of the landmark speeches of the 20th century. This was the the day after the MLK assassination, so RFK probably wrote this his thoughts on a napkin on the flight to Cleveland. Truly remarkable: I miss those days. Can you imagine ANY current polical figure composing and delivering such a moving discourse?
I totally agree with you 'polpiv4tifi' ...and was thinking the same as I listened to this amazingly touching and ever more relavent speech ...especially in this time of confusion.
You must have been born yesterday! There will never be another RFK! I you think he was a liberal you are partially right. He was also, in many ways, very conservative. Politicians like JFK and RFK no longer exist!
Again, I find this piece- this mosaic- very moving. I just wanted to thank you again for allowing embedding... I'll put it up as soon as I finish my semester.
