  • what was the great western engine's model

  • 3:14 in the row of vans, I see a Hornby Thomas closed van which has a face. :D

  • where did you get the A4 Pacific that color and ho scale?

  • what was the theme song called

  • where did you get your double engine shed, what make and what product number?

  • interesting AL certainly dealt this episode a blow, the wreckage of the changes are all over the tube

it seems no matter what you do it's very difficult to gain back the audience it one attracted

  • @leokimvideo - yep, the views have fallen away. New thumbnails, etc etc, not helping. Hence, thinking of reuploading it in a new format to try and entice viewers back. It's a shame as it was so close to the 500,000 mark too, before the changes. :(

  • @simierski another promonent ghost tuber i know thought exactly the same, i'll be honest i don't think reloading it will do anything to help

all i see is AL is savage on videos which are not popular, it loves to dump new content super fast, the only thing which will save you is if your content has advertisers fighting over it at ad auctions, but we are all up against the massively popular mega tubers who seem to rule these networks

right now the tube is a slaughter house, upload carefully

  • @simierski there is a force controlling videos now which we have absolutely no control over, your literally at the mercy of the gods now

  • I love this series - it's like a more realistic version of "Thomas the Tank Engine", in that the stories are just as good but it's about a real railway. It's very well made, too.

  • i love your new icon

  • I have a really good question, Simon. Since you're a partner and receive money from your show, do you pay the voicers or are they fine without pay? Mainly since one day if I became a partner (Not anytime soon with where I'm at), I wouldn't know how to give back to the actors.

  • @startug - what voice actors? It's all me!

  • @simierski Oh wow, I didn't see that coming. I've got to hand it to you for doing many great voices, Simon.

  • British Railway Series Marathon Episode 1!!!

  • nice models but boring story, too much talking

  • @tantorecords - I must add, before I block you, that I get paid for making these videos. Enjoy. Bye now.

  • @tantorecords - I think the troll just came out to play. Bye bye troll :P

  • This is sad beyond belief. wtf

  • @tantorecords - it was made the best part of four years ago. The animation and scripting, sound effects and narration have moved on a tad.

Of course, a 20 year old with no video uploads, few comments and a blank page could just be trolling. Haters gonna hate.

  • How did you make the faces? Please respond.

  • @FarqahrProductions - look for the "making of" video ;)

  • wish my model railway was like yours

  • Do you think you'll ever re-make episode 1? with it's original script in mind?

  • Too bad the race of steam engines has been EX-TER-MI-NATED!

  • @dalek14159 - lol, that's made my day this comment :) bit of a dr who fan myself!

  • boming

  • TTOOBBYY

  • So whats the name of the song?

  • 13 Noobs were here.

  • great video mate thats a like and fav from me

  • what's interesting about this first episode is it seems to be related to some fairly heavy duty connections, as for why this episode has this advantage I can't answer

it may just be exposure time on the tube, as the tube grows larger so does the hill to climb to be popular

i'm always interested in why some things become so much more popular than other similar things on this twisted network

  • @leokimvideo - 300,000 views!!!!!!!

Who'd have thought it - it's taken four years to do it, but 300,000 views!!! :)

I would have been happy with 3000 views when I started, full stop!

  • boming

  • I love the song rule Britannia my granspa used to be in the british army as a driver to the parking areas getting the tanks ready for the morning great show

  • i really enjoyed this and look forward to other episodes. i have just discovered your series and am glad i have

  • Wow Lots and Lots and Lots Views! Will Done Simierski! :)

  • yay quarter of a million well done baboo xxxxx

  • there is a real pepercorn a1 named w. p. allen. he was scrapped

  • I hadn't seen this before - it's great!

  • Can you help me with an idea for the steam for when I film? I am 8 years old and my parents won't buy me a smoke-making machine. I've tried blowing matches out and filming that, but it just doesn't last very long. Your steam looks great. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • @Cesajool - don't use matches! Playing with fire is dangerous. Smoke effects can be created digitally too, if you don't have the technology to create them physically. I would suggest looking into this, as you can get some great effects with digital enhancement that looks as good as real smoke.

  • good luck on the series sim

  • I like it

  • well sir you almost have 2000 subs, now believe me once you pass 2000 the flood gates will open..and all you will get is troll tubers and spammers!

  • @leokimvideo - best batton down the hatches then! ;)

Lets see what the tube's got...

  • @leokimvideo - gone from 1 dislike to 12 in a day. Eh?

  • @simierski they just jealous that they cant make amazing videos like u :)

  • very interesting, look at the stats and data now, whats causing this skyward trend?

  • @PFL071 - Goodbye, troll.

  • @simierski have to love a troll, they actually power virals if you let them, just ask FRED

  • @leokimvideo - it is very interesting to see how Fred makes his money, that's for certain. I must confess, I find it amusing on so many levels as to the pure hate felt for him and the money he makes with it.

  • There is a little nudge upwards looking at the video data, might be the 6 digit factor or the thumb, any thoughts?

  • how do you get that signal on the pictures its cool

  • @ShaurntheSheep

It sure id cool, like hanging a red rag to train buffs! It is a killer icon.

  • you know simierski, i dont like thomas the tank engine in all that, with the talking trains in all, but i think your Series is great, is alot more interesting then t.t.t.e, and its more smarter then thomas

  • @awolfpack343 - made my day with that comment! Thank you very much :)

  • brilliant stuff here :)

the Class B12 is my favourite class, and my name is stephen lol, what a coincidence!

    Great video :D

  • simierski, I think I know whats going on, as your channel feature displsys pre roll's so will this if I attempt to feature it as my channel feature. I can't think of any other reason.

  • I think I've fixed it...!

  • Have you got this new layout to your videos as well? How can they go from a useable form to a completely unuseable form in one go? The setup is horrendously frantic, having the information bar underneath the video is sheer idiocy...

  • @simierski

All I know is this new layout really helps videos with GOOD THUMBS, bright contrast thumbs work wonders. ( big hint here )

The changes have been turning on and off over the last few weeks, lots of changes going on, I dare say it will give the squeaky wheel tubers plenty to scream about. Ashame they don't put the energy into making a decent vid!

  • 100,000 views! Great day for the BRWS!

Here's to the next 100,000 (raises a pint of cider) ;-)

  • *Raises a pint of ale

    To the next 100,000! :)

  • @simierski

    Here Here

  • its sad because not much train vids on youtube dont get 100,000 sadly =P ..............

    But ur's is getting there

  • congrats for the 100.000 views, that's difficult to achieve on the conjested tube networks of today.

sorry for the late feature I totally forgot..!

  • No problem chap :) Many thanks for the congrats, here's to the next 100,000 views...!

  • @simierski Steven seems like a nice chap-..err engine, I have made an idea that since my last hornby loco is a B12, that I will be a B12, not evil or rude though

  • at 0:39 who was the engine that looks like Sir Ralph but has a Circular face

  • Argh! The loader keeps on interrupting!

  • But that problem seems to be fixable by watching in HQ. Thank goodness.

  • what is wrong with sir ralph. he is all stuck up, and thinks that the railways are still the big 4

  • It is amazing to see how far you have come in Fowler's Ghost from these humble beginings.

  • Comment removed

  • No. Thanks.

  • I agree with you, sometimes I think to myself 'what would Stephen do if he knew one of his brothers was (exscuse the language) hell-bent on destroying other steamers?

  • Yeah, chaps - just to point out. My series has a basis in reality and history. Why would steam engines go around blowing each other up when humans were quite happy to do that for them via scrapping? Besides...there's only one Stephen!

  • That's true, Stephen is the only one of his kind now.

  • i love this guys work hes very good at wat he does he gets 2 thumbs up from me

  • Wow, when you look back at this first episode it's clear just how far you have come, but it's also clear a very good seed was right in the first episode..

    That's great too see.

  • IT'S ALFRED!!! RUN! XD

  • Stephen - who CAME FIRST, thanks.

  • yeah I know. XD

  • i thought this was gay at first but then i actually watched it and it is well thought up, original, well written, well narrated, entertaining and educational. well done. one bit of advice though is to change the microphone and the opening music. it was for these reasons i though this was going to be shit! still gets a 5* though.

  • This was the very first video - if you watch number 15 you'll find it has come on in leaps and bounds.

I am very tempted to remake this episode completely as I am convinced that it is due to this episode that the rest of the series doesn't get as many videos.

  • i have watched more hence the comment on your channel. it is a really good series. other peoples attempts i have watched make me cringe. this is by far the best around. i feel there are a few things you could do but i am no expert, it is just what i would do if this was my show. invest in a microphone, look into camera angles and lighting an find an original soundtrack that the characters and story line deserve.

  • We all begin somewhere my friend and the beginning of a legacy should never be forgotten :)

  • For your first episode the reception has been great. It's been favorited 87 times. Personally I don't think you need to redo this at all as it's perfectly fine and demonstrates how much your skills have grown with each new episode.

  • I love the way Sir Ralph says "Heavens, no!" It cracks me up.

    Nice job.

  • What song is the theme?

  • It's interesting how this very first episode is way out in front on views..your channel is looking great, well done.

  • It does seem to buck the trend a lot - I think it may be the in the title - because it has "episode one, part one" it appears at the top of the lists when someone types in "british railway series". Interestingly I come up near the top whenever someone types in "British Railways" too.

Thanks on the channel comment, it'll get another small re-design soon in prep for the next vid - a "making of" video!

  • I like how this episode starts the whole series. Why did Sir Ralph had a round face in some parts?

  • When the series was originally developed, all of the engines were going to have round faces, the A4s included (as the real A4 pacifics do have a round smokebox door under their casing). However, it wasn't deemed in keeing with the streamlined nature of the class, so it was abandoned in favour of the wedge shaped face (which is now the standard for the A4 characters). That face now forms Scott the A3 Pacific's face (look closely in the "these are the stories we tell" bit!)

  • Just noticed... When the old steamer wheezes into the yard, he has a line of tankers, then they vanish... Odd that

Great episode, always nice to re-watch things after a while

  • Yep - a catalogue of errors!

  • Sorry for the late reply - his class is the Holden/Gresley B12 class.

  • a lovely tuber sent me here...so I better lay in a comment..

    hello Simon.

it's very nice to see people are pushing your product around, I am getting letters to go to your channel.

how wonderful are the wheels which join us.

  • A tuber sent you here? :)

Fabulous! Perhaps the BRWS has some mileage in it after all. I am starting to get emails via the Copley Hill blog regarding the series too, it seems to be taking off quite nicely.

  • did you say "nigel" at 3:24? he dont apear until ep 4

  • ...I have never noticed that before! In the original "first" episode, Nigel and Herbert appeared as named characters. I guess in the editing for the first episode, Nigel's name somehow slipped the net when he was being edited out!

  • and also look at 1.09 4472 is in there

  • Rule Britannia, exellent idea. Go MALLARD!!

  • I love the faces, they have a character which enhances this series like no other.

I see that other comment has been thumbed down...funny that.

  • How rude.

  • You're an awesome narrator!

  • Huh, I thought that until Episode 6 Stephen pulled goods trains only! I wasn't paying attention!

  • Brilliant! Is that the natiol anythem music?

  • No, its rule britannia

  • Wait a minute!!! I heard you say Nigel was preparing goods trains for the other engines. But I thought he nor the other engines were not in the series until another episode.

  • Allen must have had a single chimney at first because his new one is a double chimney.

  • Nope, Allen's class, A1, always had double chimneys - but the original double chimneys were flaired, not lipped. There's the difference.

  • Uhh I don't really understand, What is the difference between flaired and lipped?

  • I think a lipped chimney would look something like this text-drawing: _IIIIIIII_

    -_IIIIIIII_- IIIIIIII IIIIIIII

     /IIIIIIII\ (continued)

  • Oh darn, the drawing didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. I'll put it in words:

I think a lipped chimney has a sort of pulled-out ring at the top, while a flaired chimney.........well...look at Sir Ralph at time 4:49. There is no "outer ring" so to speak. It just comes out straight. Simon, would this answer sonicxthomasexpert's question accurately?

  • I've made a song about the origins of the british railway. search "Dan Bull - Origins of the British Railway"

  • Wow this is really good. I love it. Its good to see a show with engines with faces thats nothing to do with Thomas. Excellent work 5/5

  • i think i will go through them again...hoot!

  • to answer your question i have to go back and look at all your works...

please give me some time to respond.

  • No problem Leo ^_^

Take your time, there's a lot of videos to get through...

  • Very good!I am now going to watch the other ones.

  • um im making a sires of my own and I wondered if you would mind me using Steven in my series, i have a engine of the same type (he's green) I wont change his personality a tall and I have already made a face which looks just like your Steven's face

If you do not reply he will appear in my series.

I am only asking because he is such a good character!

    thanks bachmanthomas21

  • sorry, but simierski put a copyright on all of his characters,so you cant just take them wiuthout permission.

  • O, alright.

but I hope he not mind me using a the engine type he used in the series

  • Look, I don't know why I have to repeat myself so often, but the characters are subject to a very expensive copyright that prevents this. If you use the name stephen, in conjunction with the class, or attempt to plagiarise the character in any way, this is copyright infringement and will be enforced to the fullest extent of the law.

  • alright! alright! Im not going to anyway,I have already seen the copy right and am not going to name the engine Steven or even have a face on him, but I am still using the same class of engine in my series and the same livery. I only asked because he is such a good character

  • this is my first episode Ilove the series.

  • what year does this take place?

  • Technically, the series starts in the year 1950, and the episodes up to 6 take place in the period 1950-52, with episode 7 taking place in the christmas of 1952. Episode 8 takes place in the spring of 1953, and the series ends, chronologically, in the summer of 1967.

  • If this keeps up, are you going to do the LMS meeting the LNER?

  • We already have done! George the Ivatt tank engine is an ex-LMS locomotive and appeared in episodes 6, 8 and 9. Although there will probably be more LMS engines appearing from time to time.

  • oh, but can you do a series in the Midland region, about the time the series takes place?

  • Perhaps one day. A few trailers we did a year ago you would have found very interesting.

  • Link, please! By the way, pray 4 Tornado!

  • Oh the trailers are routinely removed as the episodes are released. The trailers for episode 10 will be taken down soon.

  • how many and what engines do you have???

i think you should make a video all about your engines you've got

  • Your series are the best I have ever seen!!!

  • Who was Stephen named after? I know that it was the creator of his class, But I forgot his full name. <=/

  • The full name was Stephen Holden.

  • OK, so how did you come up with naming Stephen after his designer?

  • This is just like the real Thomas and Friends series. Good work!

  • isnt that the midlands engine from ep 6, next to sir ralph at 4:50?

  • No, that is Scott the A3 pacific who has yet to be seen in the series.

  • i love your series

  • sorry i mis-took wat u said

  • btw sr ralf is an A4 not A3

  • Stephen's the best!!!!

  • From 00:49 to 00:51, is the tender Flying Scotsman's?

  • Nope, it's Stephen's tender. He was also an engine of the LNER. In fact, there were hundreds of steam engines with LNER on their tenders/bunkers at the LNER's height, including of course, Flying Scotsman.

  • where do you find lner trains

  • Ebay, model shops, and so on. Easier on ebay to find what you want but not necessarily procure it.

  • what gauge would i be looking for. im truing to find the ones you have in this movie, well not the exact ones but you know what i mean.

  • 00 Gauge, Hornby/Bachmann/Heljan.

  • I really like your series. It is like my BHR writings.

  • At 03.10, a Thomas Tar Wagon is seen in the siding next to.....Scott? And I have a suspicion that some of the cattle wagons are from the Thomas range too. Anyway, the series is going great!

  • Yes, it is Scott, and the tar wagon - good spots!!! The cattle wagon looks very similar, but is actually a weathered bachmann version (and we have only one cattle wagon at present, we are looking to get a few more for the filming of episode 16).

  • Question:

What is the name of the title song?

    Thanks!

    (P.S. Great series!)

  • "Rule Brittania" (remixed by our composer SuperJason).

Thank you for the compliment, much appreciated.

  • Yours is one of the BEST model series Ihave ever seen on Youtube! Keep up the good work, mate. :D

  • Thank you very much, this series has been quite the uni project. I'm actually working on publishing a book based on the Youtube series at present, fingers crossed it may get the green light at some point!!!

  • I don't know. But they don't all have massive noses. I nose this.

  • Yes I agree with the comments below, a outstanding series, and should go well with train and thomas fans.

  • This series is absaloutely oustanding.

I really hope you make some more episodes! :D

    Lee |m|

  • Thank you very much - episode 5 I am currently editing as I write! Superjason

  • pretty good series.

  • How were the faces made?

  • The faces are made in a special type of modelling clay, which is then lightly cooked in an oven, painted, but during the making process carefully fitted onto each engine's smokebox. They are currently held onto each engine with a tiny bit of blue-tack. We are developing new types of faces for the GWR series, much more akin to how Sparkshot/Knuckles does his, as this allows us to have more "emotive" faces.

  • Smart way of making them.
