  • DX10 does not support hardware tessellation, as well as many other DX11 features.

DX10 hardware, however, does support many of DX11's key features; pretty much everything but hardware tessellation.(which requires actual dedicated tessellation units)

  • @TortillaGaming Still, looks like 'PC game development' is coming back with a storm (Meaning PC in mind or PC-exclusive entirely being developed.)

You ever check out Natural Selection 2? I just recently preordered it (Which gives you early beta... although it feels like an Alpha still) and it's a lot of fun, and the engine has some awesome features (One of my faves, every light being dynamic to dynamic terrain or infestation.)

  • @silenceyouidiot Wasn't that game supposed to come out like 2 or 3 years ago?

Indeed, PC-exclusives are coming back but how long will that last, probably till the new consoles are out.

There are a few free games coming out for PC only and all of them look just as good if not better than the "console exclusives" Tribes Ascend and Blacklight Retribution (search for E3 2011 Deathmatch or the Tech Demo.)

  • @TortillaGaming They switched engines a few years back and have finally shown some improvements. The game is supposed to launch in Summer of this year, so I hope everything works out.

Blacklight Retribution does look impressive, it's already in closed-beta. As for the increased number of free2play games, I wonder if that's good or bad? We've seen a lot of good f2p, but will that end up taking over the PC-side of gaming with AAA titles?

  • @silenceyouidiot Looks like i'll have to find some more info on Natural Selection 2.

I don't think there are enough good f2p games yet but as long as they can keep the games balanced i.e. they keep micro transaction items for appearance only so that players who pay for items don't get a gameplay advantage and can keep the hackers way i think it will be ok.

BTW, I'm on the BETA of Blacklight and the game looks very good so far, runs good too, 100fps+ on a single 6970.

  • How does this demo uses Wii U? Was it compiled using Nintendo Wii U tools, graphics libraries and a proper devkit? Was this running on a devkit and captured?

  • @arashikage82 Ues, i would very much like to know the same thing.

  • Come trolls, state the obvious. Old tech is old.

  • its funny cause now the wiiU is confirmed to be using Dx11 which is essentially better

  • @lylatfox4 Well the term Directx is owned by microsoft and so is the hardware so it will be slightly above Dx 11.

  • @lylatfox4 no, dx11 has not been confirmed for Wii U. where'd you see that?

  • @SkankinDevil89 yeah shoulda been more clear, its not exactly DX11, since its owned by microsoft but it will use open GL which can e used liek DX11 like the same if not better

  • @gunninlinguist The next-gen consoles after the Wii-U are going to handle AMD technology for the main hardware, which they call an, "APU."

The video chipset is combined alongside the processor in order to cut down cost production as well as wattage/heat. As of right now netbooks and some laptops are using them, but AMD promises to allow consoles 'cutting-edge' graphics and processing without the problem of overheating and high prices.

It all comes down to when they're released.

  • @silenceyouidiot

Interesting. But that isn't going to make the PSXBox any more powerful than they otherwise would be though right. I mean 360 and PS3 were cutting edge for their time despite the heating/price issues. I guess it means they'll undercut the Wii U in price and efficiency though, and Nintendo can't really remodel their Wii U later either...

  • @gunninlinguist They could always remodel, but in most cases the Wii-U may face issues with heating because of the consoles small form factor and the R700 GPU series being known to be above 52*C when not at full use (Meaning the card may reach well around the 76*C with an hour of gaming.) AMD have said they're making a custom modification of the GPU so hopefully it all works out.

Basically next-gen consoles will be smaller form factors, (Slightly) better performance, and cost less than expected.

  • @silenceyouidiot Who care's, the WII-U is not even out yet and it's already out-dated.

I'm pretty sure they went with the R700 because it supports DX10.1, but still, that's old.

  • @TortillaGaming The only issue I see is that there is no real specs on what GPU it uses. For all we know it's being produced by AMD/Radeon. The R700 model could be completely custom and superior to a 4870/90 (Since it's a console, and OpenGL wise the R700 series would be great) or it could end up like a 4650/70 (Which means it's cheap to produce but only gives a slight performance leap to the current-gen consoles [AKA: Xbox 360/PS3])

Saying that it could switch to a custom APU, all depends.

  • @TortillaGaming how is it outdated, numbnuts? its more powerful than your outdated 360.

  • @SkankinDevil89 Still less powerful than my 1.5 year old DX11 PC though, numbnuts.

  • @TortillaGaming lol, not even by that much. I'd understand if the difference in graphics quality was substantial, but its barely noticeable. so you're the dumbass, lol.

  • @SkankinDevil89 Actually, it's a lot considering the fact that a 4850/80/90 cannot handle Battlefield 3 nearly as good as my 6970, not to mention the fact that DX11 > DX10.

Basically, you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • @TortillaGaming Oh, what's the manufacturer? I have a 6950 myself, thing is a beast... in size.

  • @silenceyouidiot It's the PowerColor HD 6970 Devil 13 edition.

I bought it like 5 days after it was out and no i couldn't wait for the 7970, besides i don't need a 7970 nor do i have the cash for it yet :/

  • @TortillaGaming Ah, it looked like a good card but I bought the 6950 as soon as I could to step-up from my 5770 (Honestly, time seems to go by fast. Never noticed my 5770 being 2 years old until I switched my monitor.) I'm thinking of going Nvidia next-time, but I don't plan to upgrade my GPU for a year or two from now.

  • @silenceyouidiot Yeah, with consoles holding back Game Development a 6950 should be good for about a year and a half then start overclocking to get that extra boost to go through the last few months.

Btw, the new ATI 7XXX series are looking really good i can't wait to see what Nvidia is going to do.

  • @TortillaGaming

Your clueless rant about consoles holding back game development is laughable and idiotic at the same time. Thanks for the good laugh...

  • @MrSavior42 Really? Search The Darkness 2 FIXED FOV.

You're just spurting crap, you're the one who obviously has no idea about what's going on, keep playing your 70 FOV, huge guns, not even 720p but up-scaled no AA/AF games on your shitty console.

  • @TortillaGaming

You obviously are a clueless fucking idiot with your PC elitist attitude that is laughable at best.Funny thing is that I have a monster PC gaming rig that absolutely destroys you're rig with ease and also own a 360 and PS3 as well.Only an imbecile that has never developed a game in his pathetic life would spew the idiocy that console gaming is ruining game development..Your lack of knowledge about game development has provided many of us with a good laugh...

  • @MrSavior42 Oh, what are the components you're running that 'monster gaming rig' with?

  • @MrSavior42 I own a Xbox 360, PS1, PS2, SNES and N64.

Everything you said is pretty much useless, like i said, have fun playing on your shitty 7 year old console hardware.

Your comment was unbelievably entertaining, "destroys you're rig" it does what? "Only an imbecile that has never developed a game "

That's all you have to say, really, at least i posted some good facts.

P.S. I obviously have a better idea and much more knowledge than you.

  • It's not DirectX.

  • I WANT IT ! FTW

  • Actually dx10 isn't capable of tesselation in the same way that dx11 is, and it wouldn't handle it as well either.

  • Is this legit?

  • @xAfroMetalHead1990x Ya... For once, Nintendo is making an awsome console..

  • What is the name of this song? It's beautiful.

  • Pretty colors :D......

  • Open GL 4.1 is what Wii U will use most likely (since like said Microsoft does own Direct X but again they are both on par with each other (although Open GL does a tad more then Direct X 10 ).

  • but the wii u doesn't use directX since it is Microsoft proprietary software instead it uses a customized version of opengl since it is open source and unlike directX doesn't overheat the system and can support tessellation in older graphics cards

  • @emzademon lol your totally wrong here the Wii U make's use of a HD4000 Radeon GPU

that gpu uses DX10 and OpenGL

wether u like it or not this hase already been confirmed

  • Did you make this
