Actually, it's both. There's a part where he plays it up an octave (1:22-1:35) and you can hear the Whammy manipulating it. His fretting hand doesn't move from its original position.
WH-1 Whammy Pedal was designed by Roland, whose guitar synth Jimmy Page had endorsed 20 years earlier. Roland has prolly been designing for Jimmy behind the scenes. The 1977 tour is the first with the pitch shifting effect.
I bought my original whammy because Jimmy endorsed it in a 1991 Guitar Player mag. I figured this was the effect he used for the last note of the "Heaven Knows" solo on RObert Plant's "Now and Zen" album. In summation, pitch shifting is NOT MXR phaser, but WH-1 circuitry.
I love the Whammy Pedal-usage in the intro.

It sounds like a whammy but its actually a phaser pedal (an MXR 90 to be exact)

No it's called an oc-devider and it goes from two octaves up to two octaves low(He move 4 octaves in 1 note/chord.)

Well I'm pretty sure that he used one in his Trampled Underfoot solo at the very least.

I agree. This is my least favorite song from this concert. That is due mainly to Plant's singing on this one.
