How can you compare Master of Puppets to Octavarium, I meen Dream Theater is a great group but when your comparing epics Master of Puppets takes the cake for anything that's epic. Listen to any of the first four Metallica albums then listen to any Dream Theater album and come back and rethink what your saying dude, and if I was going to choose any "epic" Dream Theater album it would be Awake or Train of Thought come on man I meen really!!

Metallica sounds different because Dave Mustaine and Cliff Burton are no longer in the band... Listen to Daves music then listen Kirk's music before Metallica... it set the bar for him AFTER recording Kill'em All Kirk took lessons from Joe Satriani because he couldn't write guitar oarts like Dave least of all solo... had not Dave set the style of playing so high Kirk still would have been playing with Exodus... just imagine if Dave would have taken guitar lessons from Joe Sat...

actually i'd say kirk was already pretty good with solos, just listen to the four horsemen off kill 'em all. i know the main body of the song was written by mustaine, but mustaine's song was the mechanix. The huge bridge in the middle is all kirks work, and hetfield changed the lyrics. Satch did help hammet to get more creative and think about how to make much better solos than before, but it doesnt mean he was bad in the first place...

I'd be surprised, Metallica were probably jamming that song for a while because it sounds like there's a lot of preparation. Notice how different every 2 bars are in the 'mellow' part. And there's like 3 guitars there bending in harmony. And Kirk's solos arent that easy to do. Just an epic song imo!. Nice video to, gj on that.
