Hey i got a question.. when i use the command prompt i type format c: then when they ask me if i wanted to reformat i put Y then it says that volume is in use by another process.then bal bla bla Would you like to force a dismount on this volume i type Y but it say cannot lock the volume what should i do?

For your computer to boot from the disk you need to go into bios and change the order of operation for booting. Make sure CD is first and save once it is. then restart computer.

i have a question. when u were asked to delete the partition, i only see one partition to be deleted which is C. what happens to ur E drive? shouldnt it be there too? and when u finish the formatting, does the E drive still there? Thanks

you only select the one drive. every system runs on one and only one. you can make more drives out of it but just keep one letter drive per hd. if you see others when you format its another drive usb card or more you have hooked to the pc or laptop

if you did this and had no cd then how did you do it. if you ran recovery then thats not formatting thats restoring. to do it right if you had problems you need to wipe it all and do it again.

you may be using another disc not a windows or recovery disc. if you made it there the problem. if not then you set the laptop to boot in bios to cd but never set the order of the boot to the cd/vd drive 1st. then if it read it b4 the drive it will boot the disc. or try running it while windows is running. some systems let you setup then reboot.

2 years ago I got a brand new laptop. Never came with an installation CD - when I turned the pc on for the first time, the Windows XP just installed itself automatically. Now I really want to format it, but I'm not sure of what I should do. Do I still need to save all drivers? And most important, what about the Windows installation since I don't have a CD? Or in this case the Windows re-installs itself again? Well, I would really appreciate if you can give me some help! Thanks

The companies got cheap even 2 years ago. they dont include a cd any more for most pc or laptops. they force you to buy one from there site or customer service. its about 10-20 bucks but still... you dont need to save the drivers cause after years I am sure its outdated. you could if you want but I would say just go to the main site of the pc maker and download the newest ones. your computer should let you make backup cd or dvd 1-2x's only! make one and dont ever lose it or u will need to order

also if your lost go to the makers home site. it should tell you how to and where to go on your pc to make those backup cd or dvd's. that way if it all goes bad you can wipe it and use the backup. i prefer borrowing a windows cd and using my key then downloading drivers. it seems to run faster without hp,compaq,gateway,dell own windows version for there own products. a normal windows cd has none of that just the program, no extra. any more questions just email me. too little space 2 type here.
