I sculpt the batt one needle, classic needle felting. Your choice of needle is probably the most important thing, so experiment with different sizes. Everyone seems to gravitate to a different needle. My 2 favorites are #40 for forming the batt and #36 star for the fine finishing work. As for sculpting the batt, check out all the work of my friend "Feltalive" on YouTube and consider taking her online course!
Thanks for the positive comments. I do the legs in 2 parts, with an overhang at the patella to fold over the bottom half of the leg. This "fold" makes the bulge at the knee. The foot is part of the bottom half, turned up. Then I had another bulge for the heel. Simple! But my grandmother made me study anatomy, especially Raphael's "spiral of beauty" technique to form the leg. It helped!
i love your dolls! can you tell me how you make the form out of the cotton batting? similar to wet felting? your work is divine....and the finished jesters are amazing!!!
@wildersara Hi, I just ordered more of this batting from Zellinger wool ($15) and they are sending it to Mexico for me...so I know they are still selling it. Good luck!

I'm not finding any white cotton craft batting on their site, just wool. I never had any luck needle felting cotton.
