Me too!!! My favorites are actually Jimmy Blythe, Roy Bargy, and Frank Banta, (in addition to numerous others), but Luckey Roberts and George Gershwin are definitely up there!
Yes he was. In one of his books, Gershwin actually lists his pianistic influences: Les Copeland, Mike Bernard, Melville Ellis, Luckey Roberts, Zez Confrey, Phil Ohman, and Victor Arden.
Recordings of all of these performers can be found online, although for some you have to dig (for example, the only known exisiting recording of Les Copeland is him playing for Moran and Mack's "Two Black Crows" act on two sides of one record).
@robchalfen Hi Rob, yes Luckey Roberts plays piano on two of the other Black Crows sides, however they made a few more besides these four (all were on Youtube the last time I checked), and it is not as easy to tell who is the pianist on the other sides. Maybe you can identify who it is?
God, Luckey is ON FIRE here! I actually haven't heard this before, and it is fantastic! One of these days I'll dig out that mp3 of a home recording of Roy Bargy playing Pork and Beans, it's short but very good too.
You may eat your dinner of pork and beans but I eat more chicken than any man ever seen!!!!!

Luckey, Bargy and Gershwin are my favourite ragtime pianists of all time. They influence me so much.

There are photos of Luckey Roberts around if you want to make a new video with them to replace this one.
