@damianrobertson It is just a small parachute similar to the one they used on James Bond (I believe it was Moonraker) where James 'steals' the parachute from someone in mid free-fall. But obviously you can't just leave an actor to die, so they made a parachute small enough to fit under clothing and so the actor could land safely.

Typically people will assume a parachute is a large rucksack type object which is somewhat bulky (or atleast goes far down the back) but there are those which are made smaller for concealment.

We are not like a pencil. Our centre mass and appendages (arms and legs) create additional surface area that create drag at terminal speed. Head down is the most effecient because the force of the wind when in a head up (standing) is blowing our arms and legs up and away from where they need to be (i.e. down and in the air flow).

Have you ever made a skydive? It's quite different from the pencil analogy used
