I guess it depends on the staging. I enjoy Virgil's energetic approach to it, but I also appreciate Diane's reverent rendition. You can never "top" Virgil's energy---he was E Power Biggs on steroids---but you can never top Diane's devotion to the written score.
i applaud ms. bish for giving virgil the credit because he popularized the arrangement. however, virgil himself never took the credit for it but properly afforded it to alexander schreiner, the much celebrated organist at the mormon tabernacle (1939 - 1977, i think). this is documented in the compilation entitiled "the organist", which includes the arrangement.
She plays this very rendition at the beginning of every concert, and it never gets old!! I like that she plays it MUCH slower than Virgil did. This tempo makes it so much more vital and majestic.
I truly enjoyed the pedal work.

Its majestic sounding, but Fox made the organ a part of his hands and feet, and plays it with more fury in his keying.

Questa donna suona per la Gioia della misica. Questo rende le sue esecuzioni insuperabili.

...and really wakes the concert-goers up and makes them excited for the rest of the concert. I just love this woman.
