I love watching storms better than movies :-) I learned however that lightning can come through glass windows, concrete into basements, and it tends to make me a LOT more nervous now, know the people who got killed in their basement from lightning coming through their cement walls. I watch from a glassed in porch, gives me the illusion of safety. Your kid is lucky, he's taking his cues from you.
@MrOssumAnt Oh yes it can, ask any meteorologist or scientist, even local fire dept. may be able to tell you if they've ever had to respond to one, it's not that rare or common either, but it does happen often enough. I don't have a lightning rod, nor do most homes today--it's not a standard build on anymore, mostly only older victorian type homes or upgraded add-on by homeowner these days. Where I live now, power lines & transformer 2 feet from my window, it's a concern, love watching tho.
@RecoverRedeem We've been through hurricanes Bonnie (1998), Isabel (2003), and Irene (2011). Of the three, Isabel was the worst for us, and it was barely a Cat1 when it got here. I decided then that we'd evacuate if anything above a Cat2 was headed for us (although it is tempting to stay and witness the awesome fury of nature).
@TheMonTSteR lol i agree, up here in chicago though it's kinda lame unless you head towards the lakefront during the summer or early spring.
What was it... i think july or june yea sometime going onto august when i was working at the taste i got smashed into a storm that was more or less like this, saw some wicked BRIGHT WHITE lightning it was insane literally saw a giant streak across the sears tower lol but kinda wish i was there to see that storm where u were at looks amazing!!!
I wish I had a father like that when I was 3 years old. I used to be very scared of thunderstorms and my parents always punished me for that. It would have been better if they took me to a window to watch it with me and be this excited about it. It's great :)
If you look right after 2:25 , and pause at 2:32 at the correct time you can see what looks like yellow/green small lightning bolt. Probably where it grounded off at, in front of the building you're looking at. That's Awesome.
@winza11 Florida is the lightning capital of the Nation but I don't live there. Where I'm from, it's late *April* to early *May*-June. We get HUGE ELECTRICAL STORMS!!!! I kid you not, alteast 7-8 bolts of lightning every second, it's like a warzone! Hell I'm getting all excited just typing to you about it.
You might want to pick up "The Old Farmers 2012 Almanac" It saved my ass during the 09 Ice Storm and is very handy when timing storm chases. I plan them months ahead. PM me for more info.
I didnt even get to the 30 second mark and i already liked and favoritied lol. I LOVE crazy weather but where i live, we barely get anything crazy. Last winter, we got a thunderstorm but not like this. Your lucky man cause i would love to live where you get weather like that!
We had one looked out my curtain and saw the BIGGEST flash of lightning EVER and fell on my back in a panic attack and it was PROBABLY 120 Db NOT KIDDING

that "green" lightning as you call isnt really green lightning. a lightning strike just hit an electic pol or something like this. you see the lightning and then the green flash from the electric exlosion^^
I am now 56 yrs old and my Father has been gone for over 10 yrs. As a child, thunder really frightened me. On a rare occasion when my Father was at the house during a really loud storm, he saw the distress in my face as the booming claps peeled and rolled off into the distance. He related that during WWII he was on a small ship in transit back to the carrier he flew from when a contingent of the Japanese Navy began firing salvos into the heart of the fleet. In response, the U.S. Battleships
began to return fire. Nestled in the "eye of the storm" as it were, he could hear the huge naval guns fire as the projectiles sailed over his tiny ship on their way to strike the Japanese. The exchange went on for hours with shells being thrown in both directions. He explained the principles of simple physics which produced the concussion of the blast and then the rolling peel as the thumping and rumbling sounds trailed off into the distance. He said that the shells passing through the air on
their way to their targets pushed the air out of the way at supersonic speeds just as the heat of the lightning bolt caused the air to suddenly expand and boom with the initial explosive crack. As the shell passed by, as the air cooled and began to fill into the vacuum caused by both situations, a "tunnel" was produced which suddenly filled with the surrounding air causing shock waves which rumbled and trailed off into the distance and the sounds moved farther away from our location. With this
explanation of how similar the two experiences were to one another, my Father diffused the fears I had over the violent concussions I heard during a thunderstorm. To cap off the explanation of the sounds of thunder and his experiences in the Navy, he told me the next time I heard thunder, close my eyes and imagine that it was me on board that tiny ship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and all that I heard were the cannon shells being fired between two huge groups of ships knowing that none of
them would ever fall short causing me harm. Today, where I live, as I experienced the boom and roll of the thunderstorm in my area of Arkansas, my thoughts shoot back to a time in my life when my Father showed me his love by setting my troubled mind in a direction of knowledge and understanding of not only nature and how it worked, but his nature as well. Dad, you were my best friend. I miss you very much. May you forever Rest in Peace.
0:33 something like that happened to me. i live right near a water tower on top of a hill. easily the tallest thing for miles. so guess what...it just so happend to have a tough thunderstorm one day.
im watching lightning (and i can be a bit paranoid about thunder...always blocking my ears just incase its close) and the one fucking time i dont a blinding bolt of light fomr lightning(i was facing away) not even split second later...it wasnt even a crack it was like a MAJOR static sound...
That's the worst thunderstorm I've ever seen lol. How could you not be terrified?? Lovely to see a boy and his daddy having so much fun together. Kids are a great excuse to let go of all our adult inhibitions and be a child again lol. This will be an amazing video for your little boy to watch when he's older, I bet he never forgets what an awesome time he had with his dad on that night.
@psg1504 Live in Florida, you'll get quite a few bad ones like this every year..you get used to it, as a matter of fact, they help me sleep when they are during the night...
They are just so peaceful, like a relaxing peaceful, not the kind of peaceful where you want to hug them xD
@Siconify Peaceful?? I'll have to take your word for it lol. Personally I'd be shaking under the duvet if we ever had anything near as violent as this in the UK lol. I must admit though, it is a spectacular display of nature :D
Mother natures power viewed from a childs eyes, makes me feel so young again when me and my dad first watched lightning storms though few were this electrified. One in particular I remember when I was scryking and peeling paper off my wall when lightning through the window instantly silenced me, soon after me dad and mum watched the storm from the porch, BANG BANG went the lightning hitting everything nearby. One of my earliest memories, I couldnt have been older than 3 or 5.
JUST EXPERIENCED THE SAME!

Lol he loves it <3
Mother natures power viewed from a childs eyes, makes me feel so young again when me and my dad first watched lightning storms though few were this electrified.
