  • i have a gallon of jim beam bitches!!!!

  • Love this song. Love this version. Love this singer. Miss you Jerry!

  • Whack fol di diddy-O!

  • Oh moon, you should remember all i want for christmas...

  • a video about whiskey and no johnnie walker ????

  • lovely tune, pussy lyrics

  • 3:25 , Southern Comfort- none Whiskey,-..but good song. !!!

  • Thank you brother...

  • @mcdstuff You forgetting The Dubliners, the original writers of the song.

  • @GunsandRosesFan92 Whiskey in the Jar is a traditional Irish song. The Dubliners did NOT write it. They were just the first to record it.

  • The Irish is not taken out of this song, its just giving in a taste of some backwoods U.S.A.. These individual artists did this song in the opinion of an Irishman a HELL of a lot better than Metallica or Think Lizzy. They kept it slow and unique without changing the original too much although the Irish version is still the best without a doubt.

  • This is my absolute favorite version of this song. It really doesn't get better!

  • You killed mah mother, and yerr killed my father * Looks at the whiskyglass* Sweet Revenge!

  • T4TENEC

  • MOUNTAINSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.USA

  • Sad to see the "Irishness" taken out of it.Not the same as it's a traditional Irish song...

  • Garcia and grisman

  • Happy Birthday Jerry we all still love ya...

  • Good to seen you didnt forget two of the best whiskeys out there Jameson and Bushmillls in your video

  • @andrewjflemming agreed. halve a couple gallons of each in my wine/liquor cellar. a rare treat

  • love it!!!! Brings back some great memories :)

  • es ist doch ein irisches volkslied...daher möchte ich mal wissen, warum immer "jack daniels" zu sehen ist...

  • @nordwest72 Dazu gehört ein Guinness

  • god, garcia's singing made me want some whisky right now XD

  • Jerry Garcia was one of the best talents the world will ever see, along with "Fats" Waller, Groucho Marks and some others I can't bring to mind! Oh, Einstein....

  • @mcdstuff lets not forget Luke Kelly and the Dubliners. The Dead for all times...

  • nice ending :)

  • the melody is the only thing in this thats whiskey in the jar. the rest is all different. ok version but doesnt have the same black humour as the irish version and thats what makes whiskey in the jar.

  • @mcdstuff no shit? I have never heard that! Im going to have to find that. Sounds interesting.

  • the mandolin is so beautiful...my grandpa tried to teach me...my hardheaded ass wasnt easy to teach..I miss him...lol, he would have loved this song if he didn't know it was Jerry Garcia :) sleep well Pa

  • babies should drink whiskey

  • metallica sucks-agh

  • No Captain Ferrell here, he's turned into a Colonel Pepper... Cool verison though, I like it very much indeed... :)

  • I think those who appreciate ballads sung in the usual Irish style would probably prefer to hear Whiskey in the Jar in its original form but those who aren't already familiar with Irish music would enjoy this very much for what it is - i.e. they won't know what it is not!

  • This is a feeble attempt to do a great, authenic Celtic song....Jerry Garcia should stick to what he does best. No disrespect...may he rest in peace.

  • Jerry was at his best doing his folkie thing!

  • such a good version.Almost as good as the Dubliners version.Fuck metallica

  • @MannyJazzcats I think Thin Lizzy makes the best version. I like the

electric guitar riff they made. Phil Lynott also has a better voice, i think.

Both this and The Dubliners versions are very good too.

Metallicas´ version has screaming instead of singing, and very boring drumming

  • i love metallica, and i love this version of the song. Long live the Grateful Dead!

  • metallica is a shit hole i dont even know why they did this song jerry is the law for flok music like this

  • Metallica sucks a million dicks.

  • @THEbadGENO hey motherfucker if metallica suck a million dick your mama has all the holes full of cocks right now. metallica did a cover of a song, so if you don't like it why are saying that they suck? fuck stupid buddy

  • @christiandil10 I totally agree with you.

  • Grisman's mandolin is genius ...

  • This is a great song by a great performer i would expect nothing less

  • eh...not my style Metallica way better

  • well, Metallica did NOT bring me here, but I've heard their version and it is damn good, in fact every version of this song I've ever heard is great... mark of a good song I think .... for someone to equate listening to a certain band and drugs.... well, that's just someone with THEIR head up their ass... gonna listen again and have a couple shots !

  • I'ma gonna go have some Jameson.

  • Blimey, Matallica, Dead, Lizzy, IT IS a traditional Irish tune.

  • well thats the only reason to dislike this song..... and for the ass hole that said the dead stole this song from metallica, do some research

  • @kingwilliamorange lol yeah metallica went back in time and stole the dead's cover

  • its sad tuh meh that mostly every1 dosnt jus get drunk anymore we all haf tuh get high n stuff so lets all put down our pipes and and get shit faced

  • I like this version like I like the Dubliners version. I still think I like Thin Lizzy's better though... just for the more rockish sound. They're all great though. it's hard to screw up such a beautiful song COUGH metallica

  • metalica are a joke band

  • Cazzo c'entra il Jack Daniels con lo whiskey???? E' roba da teen-agers alcolizzati....

  • What the hell is a "Metillaca"? Can you eat that? is that a dessert?

I like all the versions of the song, also Metallica's version.

  • @jarnobot agreed wholeheartedly. have 1 cd ive pressed/burnt with all copies ever made

  • @jarnobot do you like the celtic thunder version?

  • Springbank,Glen Fiddich,Bushmills,Jack Daniels,Wild Turkey,whisky in the jar!

kudos to Garcia for taking it on love it, as old as the hills of ireland covered by all the great irish bands,& just about everyone else a masterwork of traditional folk music, ideal for a wee dram single malts rule!

  • Jerry was a respecter of folk music and understood it's roots!

  • What amazes me 1) is that you believe Garcia, and Metallica and Thin Lizzy and the dubliners and about 2000 other Musical groups were the ones who recorded/ Played the song first The song is about 350 generations old .. and 2) that ya think Jack Daniels and a couple other brands is the Crap they're talking about in the jar..LMAO

  • Happy St. Paddy's Month and thank you, Jerry!!!

  • can someone explain to me how jerry garcia could have "stolen" this song from metallica if he died befor metallica even recorded the song? not to mention its not metallicas song to steel thin lizzy made this song famous but it goes back long befor thier time and theres several versions of it it is an old irish folk song. >aleoffs2468 get your facts befor you post accusations and take you negative energy somewhere else.

  • @jumpspark hey dumbass u might wanna look at what a said after... speaking about getting urr facts straight

  • Way to steal this song from metallica

  • This is an old Irish song. Metallica heard Thin Lizzy do it and thought they would give it a shot. I like all the versions, depends on what mood I'm in. If you don't know of Thin Lizzy you should dig into them and check them out, they had some of the best musicians there have been and definitely have their own style. I'm sure the guys from Metallica agree 100%.

  • @keepntyme i know i was just being sarcastic, im actually a huge dead head, and an even bigger metallica fan so when i saw they both covered the same song i almost shit myself and i feel like i have over the past 2 hours heard every freakin artist in the world cover this song lol it is actually a great tune.

  • This was recorded two years before Metallica's version. If Metallica brought you here..... get off the drugs.

  • @Leonski30 see above comment dumbass

  • @aleoffs2468 its a folk song from ireland, its not by metallica

  • @aleoffs2468 metallica stole it from thin lizzy idiot, and they stole it from the songbook

  • @Helms113 dude... it is a folk song... it wasn't stolen by anybody....

  • jerry garcia is a saint of a man

  • by far the best cover of this song

  • My absolute FAVORITE version by far!

  • Quint: "Do you want a drink? Drink to your leg?"

Hooper: "I'll drink to your leg."

Quint: "Okay, so we drink to our legs! Ha ha ha!"

  • I really like Metallica's version but I DO like this version too

  • They got the lyrics wrong.

  • @KenMacMillan no they actually didn't. Metallica covered it and added lyrics. they have it right.

  • @bowb2 They should be "As I was goin' over the far famed Kerry mountains,

I met with Captain Farrell, and his money he was countin'.

I first produced me pistol and I then produced me rapier,

Saying: "Stand and deliver, for you are a bold deceiver!".

Musha rin um du ruma da, Whack fall the daddy-o,

Whack fall the daddy-o, There's whiskey in the jar."

  • Phil Lynott rules.....

  • Wack fo daddio

  • huge respect to Jerry for making a version of this classic Irish folk song.

  • so so awesome, I love this version, what could be better than Jerry singing traditional Irish music? RIP

  • i like this version..... ,i do, its great....., but i like more metallica or thin lizzy version, it must be because i heard them first, but i listen all types of music, and this is very good, it go to favorites.......Great song!!!

  • @masterboy4ever If you like those check out the pouges or the dubliners. some songs should just be left in their original form

  • @ruthlessone3k I never would have heard or liked this song if I didn't hear this version years ago. When I heard this song I found out about the both the dubliners and the pogues. I found out that I love Shane McGowan, I mean I found out he even existed.

I think sometimes song covers can be a good thing even when you don't like the sound.

  • @ruthlessone3k Tho when I found out thin lizzy and metallica covered this song....I was to scared too even check it out, now I'm sorry people cover songs.

  • @JimmyPage97 Every version you hear of this song will be a cover.

  • @KenMacMillan I know. This was the first version I heard, and I loved it. So for me this is my original, or maybe a better word would be "archtype" of whiskey in the jar.

  • why does Grisman sound sharp alot of times ?

  • @MomsterYop how he plays I guess.

  • good line up on this playlist here. thanks

  • smooth - like Maker's Mark

  • Dubliners is better imo

  • whack fall the daddio!!!!!!!!

  • Never heard this before. I thought Jerry Garcias made ice cream.

  • @crazyjayboyblue hahaha~ thats CHERRY GARCIA!!! :):) my favorite personally

    JERRY GARCIA is the man

  • Great job Jerry!!! My Fav. is Thin Lizzie's version. But then again i am Irish!!ERIN GO BRAUGH!!

  • For those intersted, this is from "Shady Grove" by Jerry Garcia and David Grisman. Excellent album.

    We all miss Jerry. :[

  • i like all versions of this song, probably the Metallica version the best, but dont get me wrong, this is awesome

  • Forget Jack Daniel. Try Elmer T. Lee!

  • @MFPhoto1

Geo T. Stagg, 143 proof or Eagle Rare 90 proof. I'm getting cozy with Old Weller Antique 107. Our state stores ran out of Pappy Van Winkle 15.

  • @ralphsims Try slivovitz. It makes whiskey taste like soda pop.

  • terrible video good tune

  • Great great musician he was RIP - hope to meet him one day ;)

  • I'm thirsty now!

  • 25 people are deaf or retarded or both

  • @kingwilliamorange don't insult deaf and retarded people

  • @kingwilliamorange Don´t be mean to the hearing impaired.

  • @kingwilliamorange 31 now but I guess the song is so good that it makes them deaf or retarded :P

  • i like all versions of this song, its just something in the music....

  • emm....I prefer metallica's version!!!

  • @Avril583 Naaaahhhhh......

  • First time ive heard of this rendition of WITJ. Amazing just like all other Jerry material

  • best of all versions plays thin lizzy. phil l. r.i.p

  • best of all versions plays thin lizzy . phil l. r.i.p.

  • if metallica brought you here..... get off the drugs, get the head out of your arse.... and realize that this is a masterpiece, not an insult to music.

  • @hethradiah78 i was brought here by the dublins who do the best cover of this next to thin lizzy

  • @hethradiah78 i dont think metallica's version is an insult and btw i like both versions

  • @hethradiah78

WOW, how about if Metallica brought people here, just be glad they're listening to good music here and not be such an ass?

  • @hethradiah78 I can't like this enough!

  • @hethradiah78 Metallica brought me here and I'm not on drugs, my head isn't up my arse and I do realize that this is a masterpiece and to be honest I don't think any version of this song is better than the other, it's an amazing song and every version is completely different to the other. They are completely different genres. So far I haven't found a version of this song that I don't like.

  • @hethradiah78 Obviously a masterpiece, beautiful version of a classic fok song, by a man who used drugs his entire life. More like get on the drugs

  • @hethradiah78 i like both verisons its all music if u cant love it for that without insulting somebody cause u think one verison is better than the other than i feel sorry for your closed mind your missing out on alot of good music!!

  • @hethradiah78 i lol'd

  • Jerry should come over when I bust out vintage single malts...

  • and what about the dubliners ? @koobphong

  • 24 people are GAY

  • @hethradiah78 nothing wrong with being gay as long as they like good music. Its the people who gave this thumbs down that bothers me.

  • i love ragtime/bluegrass guitar like this

  • @twinkie999 then u love JGB

  • A-men.

  • Eh, I love me some Jerry but this just doesn't grab the essence of the song for me. And as far as the slideshow is concerned... this song is about the pitfalls of alcohol, it wasn't meant to glorify it. But thanks for the upload, never heard this cover.

  • @MainTightSqueeze Its not about the pitfalls of alcohol. if its about anything its about the pitfall of women lol

  • This version is Orrible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OH WE WILL MISS U JERRY ;(

  • Everyone has a favorite version but for me the THIN LIZZY one is the best

  • I <3 Jack Daniels

  • The first version I heard was Metallica's version on the radio way back when and I thought, "Wow, Metallica wrote a pretty catchy song too bad it's Metallica so it sounds terrible" haha, then I found out they didn't write it, explains why it was good song writing. This version of course is the best I've heard yet, I have always loved when Jerry teams up with Grisman. I'll even rock out their children's album, "Not Just For Kids" it's called, check it out. Good ol' Jenny Jenkins is on it :)

  • god bless the dead

  • I miss Jerry.......

  • @99DaveMurphy is he dead?

  • cant beat it this is a good video

  • tis not great, not a touch on luke kelly

  • Forget Metallica. - If you have ever seen a Destillery - I saw on the Orkneys - Highland Park and if you like Whiskey you understanad the sond. Thats my favorit in all versions, but no Metallica. Thank. some Greetings to xou, my brother, because the Banjo!!!! Ronald from the Lake of Constance

  • a real testament to the quality of this song . . . so much scope for variety in delivery. Many great versions, and this is one of them.

  • a real testament to teh quality of this song . . . so much scope for variety in delivery. Many great versions, and this is one of them.

  • doit420sdf you've got a great wit! That comment made me chuckle...... loved it!

  • burboun has no place with good irish whiskey

  • that scorpion and cobra brew looks deadly

  • Most of Appalachia, ethnically, is Scots-Irish. Since bourbon and Tennessee whiskeys were created by men of Celtic descent, they're valid spirits for this song.

  • Its a great song, no matter what genre band covers it... I love Metallicas version the best myself, but thats my opinion( which i believe i'm entitled to have) Im not judging, or complaining... just showing my own appreciation for a beautiful, and timeless song... May there forever be whiskey in the jar

  • Tho it's a traditional Irish folk song, it does just say "whiskey" ... not Irish Whiskey ... so i can't complain about any whiskey pics, even bourbon.

Esp when he includes a pic of Flogging Molly, along with the bourbon ... tho every one that knows anything knows that this is an ode to Irish Whiskey ... & Women that Betray You for a dollar.

    God Bless Jerry, Luv you

    & Grisman's OK too.

  • I don't know what the poster of this video was thinking when he stuck JD and Southern comfort up, those are the cheapest, youngest whiskeys a person can drink. Should have stuck to a 12y minimum

  • Hahahah xD

    Cool Cover ! :D

  • wtf??

  • There's whiskey in the jar....Jerry Garcia and David Grishman

  • I hated Metallica's version, and I'm a Metallica fan. But I love Jerry more.

  • It is the best versoin.

  • He completely changed the lyrics.

  • Don't forget David Grisman on manolin

  • sick song bunk video

  • Jerry was a master!!

  • not gonna lie the metallica version of this song is pretty atrocious

  • como que me dieron ganas de tomar whiskey

  • WTF? metallica is best..

  • Makers over Jack. That was Al's way.

  • OK I KNOW THIS IS JUST FANTICY but imagine luke kelly ,jerry Garica and hatfield singing this on stage together.

  • Metallicas version is great if you like distortion and yelling better than harmony, musical depth and richness of tone.

  • @doit420sdf Metallica is SHITE, thin lizzy is the only real rock version, metallica just took a traditional song and fucked it up

  • @doit420sdf It might be yelling and distortion for your ears, if you listen to the song and not judge it automatically by its genre I think you'll find it's quite a decent cover.

  • @doit420sdf Mate, lovely comment; already endorsed.
