Hey man, thats a sweet G your buddy has! I didn't notice the front wheel spinning up when you tried to get out on your own - does this one have all three lockers or just a rear locker? This is a 460 right? I recently exchanged a long wheel base 350TD for a short G230, both a 463 chassis. Wondering if I made the right choice :)
@sunderaubg Hi G owner! this one is a 460 that's right, thus no center diff or center lockers. Both lockers were working, he must have disengaged the front one while trying to get it out, something i do in my 280GE to preserve the front axle. Too bad you exchanged the LWB 350TD such a great engine on the G, but the 230GE is still fun, it just lacks some torque you might have noticed:) Both LWB & SWB have their advantages and disatvantages, i think the SWB is an unstoppable setup!
@ahage4x4 Thanks for the warm welcome, man! Yeah I was very fond of the big G, but the engine had severe issues of the sort all 350TD owners complain. It's an awesome piece of kit and has great torque, but the reliability was getting on my nerves. I still had to pay for all of the issues (which featured a leaking radiator and cracked head...) Thank god I live in Bulgaria, where there still is a guy for everything and fixing it was cheap(ish). How can i get on your FB G tribute page?
@sunderaubg G fans and owners are always welcome! the G is part of my life since my older brother brought the 230G in 93, i was 13 and fell in love with that sluggish but unbreakable truck. the 350 engine had problems with the heads, in France they change the cylinder head seal every 120.000 kms i think, it is true that the 350 had temperature/heating issues ! Search The Mercedes G (Gwagen) tribute group on facebook, u'll find it :)
Try putting a Range Rover or Chevy into the mud, see whether it's stuck too. Then make the G-Class pull it out, it will be able to pull those up just like Range Rover/Chevy.
